C++ :: Display Fraction In Proper From Based On 2 Arguments Passed To Class Member Function

We're assigned a project working with classes and fractions. My goal is to display a fraction in proper from based on 2 arguments passed to a class member function proper();
My strategy was to utilize the greatest common factor between the 2 arguements, then divide both the numerator and denominator by that number and then it would display.
The program actually runs, but only seems to divide the numerator and not the denominator. This in return makes my other class member functions have incorrect comparisons and sums.

Some background: I have a class, A, with members, B and C and D; I also have an array of A objects; I want to be able to have a function which takes said array and performs a certain calculation on either the B, C, or D members of each of the A objects, depending upon certain circumstances; I want to perform the same calculation regardless of which member is to be used in said calculation, such as always assigning the value 3 or multiplying the member's value by a cofactor of some sort.
My question, therefore, is: how I might do this using only one function be it a template or not?

This week we are learning to use templates, and I don't understand how to call my member functions with my template based class. I tried the standard convention of calling member functions, but I keep getting an error saying name following"::" must be a class or namespace name. I'm thinking my problem lies with my typename T, but I am unsure. Line 16 is where I am getting tripped up.

I want to create 2 functions to (1) convert a passed string into proper case (capitalize the first alpha character of a string and every alpha character that follows a non-alpha character); (2) sort the array of names (after it has been converted to proper case).
I tried these two:

I am posting this simplified piece of code that is a bit confusing for me. There are two functions that I call. One shows the expected results but the result of the other one rather puzzles me.

Calling the function sum1 does not change the values stored in the variables val1 and val2. The output of the program is as follows:
val1= 1 ## val2= 10 // before the call of function sum1
val1= 1 ## val2= 10 // after the call of function sum1
sumOfVals= 22
This is quite obvious and as expected and I just pasted this piece of code as an example for better clarification.
However, if I call the function buildLaplacianPyramid and apply a function for Gaussian Blurring, this also effects the cv::Mat passed to the function. The line imshow("M1, after buildLaplacianPyramid",M1); therefore shows an image that is blurred. Since I am not passing a pointer to the cv::Mat I do not understand why this should be happening. I was assuming that there would be a copy of the cv::Mat M1 to be used within the function. Therefore I was expecting the cv::Mat M1 to retain its original value. I was expecting that all changes applied to cv::Mat inputmat within the function would not have any influence on the cv::Mat M1. Just like in my other example with the sum.

preventing a buffer overflow when dealing with strings being passed as arguments.
If I have a function prototype such as:

void foobar(char *bar);
That argument bar - is intended to take a pointer to a buffer of x characters in length. Inside that function, I can't get the size of that buffer, as bar is now just a pointer to a char. I COULD just make the user of this function pass a length parameter, but there is no guarantee that would be correct. Is there a bullet proof way of detecting that the user has provided a buffer that is too small?

I have a class where a method based on the type passed I should return a value.
prototype declared in the header file:

Which is more efficient in functions? Returning values or using pointers to redefine variables passed as arguments?
I mean either using:
void ptr_Func(int *x)
{
*x = *x+1
}
or
int ptr_Func(int x)
{
return x + 1;
}
In terms of speed, memory use etc.I want to know general efficiency, I know it will obviously vary with different uses and circumstances.

I am writing a program which is using SDL library. I have two different classes which one of them is Timer Class and the other is EventHandling Class.
I need to use some member functions and variables of Timer in some Eventhandling Class member functions, Although I want to define an object of Timer in int main {} and relate it to its member function that has been used in Eventhandling member function in order that it becomes easier to handle it, I mean that I want to have for example two objects of timer and two objects of Eventhandling class for two different users.
I do not know how to relate an object of a class from int main{} to its member function which is being used in another class member function.

I'm having a problem when i convert from fraction to string. When I run my program it runs fine I'm supposed to get an output of the fraction ex (2/5) and the decimal 0.4 the problem is that it does not output the fraction all I get it / and 0.4

What shall I learn in order to send values from 0.00 to 5.00? I'm working with they Hitachi 16x2 LCD display.I've been sending/displaying literal values on it all day.

I could type in putsXLCD("5.00") in order to display it on the LCD, but how do I implement this automatically for values, e.g. 0.00 to 5.00?It appears I can only pass literal values through the function SendCharacter, meaning that in order to display "0" I have to pass the value 0x30 (the hex value of "0" on the LCD Table).
My current thought process:Much like passing "Hello World" in the function putsXLCD(), I need to assign a pointer that points at each value in the "array" that I need to send. E.g., I need to send 3.24, so I need to point to "3", fetch the corresponding hex value in the LCD table, in this case 0x34, and the pass this 0x34 into the SendCharacter function, and so on. So, if this is the case, how can I fetch the corresponding hex value?

I have encountered following lines in base class and I do not comprehend its meaning of "= 0" at the end of the member functions;
distance_list intersect(ray & r) = 0;
appearance get_appearance(vector & pt) = 0;
where distance_list is a list of doubles and appearance is properties.
In general, what does this "equal sign and 0 " mean for the member functions in the base class?

I keep getting an error saying ui.h:30: error: 'class BTree<Word>' has no member named 'prntInOrder'
I have no line 30 in my ui.h but if i count the lines from the .cpp as if they were attached to the .h i find the call to the BTree printInOrder()

I have a class I am building called date and I've built all my functions to run and done all the necessary error checking in each function. However, my last and final function I have to write is where the # of days passed in as a parameter and then I have to increment the days by that many. And if the user does not increment any days at all in the parameter and leaves it blank, then it automatically increments by one day. I am having trouble with this. So for example if the user was to do this:
Date d1(10, 31, 1998); // Oct 31, 1998
Date d2(6, 29, 1950);// June 29, 1950
d1.Increment(); // d1 is now Nov 1, 1998
d2.Increment(5);// d2 is now July 4, 1950
The function starts out looking like this
void Date::Increment(int numDays = 1) {
}
I know I have to use a for loop to accomplish this. I just don't know how to get it to where the days passed in will go to the next month and then days passed in would go to the next year.
