C :: Two Stumbling Blocks - Determine Size Of Rows To Create In Program
Apr 18, 2014
Working on an assignment and I've hit TWO stumbling blocks. I now have to take the first line from a .txt file and use that number to determine the size of rows to create in my program. I am using fscanf but the program hangs. How can I read in this number, store it and use it in a for loop?
The second issue is after reading this number I have to print each number in the .txt file under a different column. (Note that it skips a line after reading the row count.) The .txt file is set up as follows:
9 1 3 6 4 7 8 8 6 1
The output should look sort of like:
Number 1 3 6 4 7 8 8 6 1
Here's my attempt:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <conio.h>
#include <math.h>
typedef struct{
int number;
[Code] .......

I am trying to find the size of an array using a Try-Catch block. As seen on the code, I want the error to be caught when the index is out of range in "while" loop but at each time, program stops working.
int x[] = {34,5,1,536,2};
int length = 0;
int tt = 0;
try {

I'm trying to keep track of the size of blocks of memory that a pointer points to. No matter what I do, this code below always outputs the integer 8.
If I change 1000 to 5, I still get 8. If I change it to 0, I get 8... If I change it to -1, I get 8. If I change int *a to double *a, I get 8. If I take away the & symbol, I get 8. If I use *& instead, I get 8.
Why? I want it to output 1000. If I change that to 500, I want it to output 500.
int *a;
a = malloc(1000 * sizeof(int));
int j = sizeof(&a);
printf("%d", j);
I want to build my skills where I can allocate, inspect and change memory sizes.

I have a N queens (actually 8 queens to be specific) program that accepts the numbers in order by row. I need to get it so it accepts the numbers in order by column. At first glance I thought it was just one space different, but it turned out not to be and how to get the one space difference in there. My current code (which I'm aware isn't doing the column accepting right) is:
Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int board[8];
cout << "Enter the columns containing queens, in order by column: ";
for(int i = 0; i < 8; ++i) {
cin >> board[i];
[Code]...
What the output should be:
Code:
Enter the rows containing queens, in order by column:
7
6
5
3
4
2
1
0
.......Q
......Q.
.....Q..
...Q....

What it is:
Code:
Enter the columns containing queens, in order by column:

I need to make a program that returns pascal's triangle of N rows. I actually need to make a function of format "int **func(int n)". I don't know how to go about that, so I am trying this method first, but I seem to be getting an endless loop.
Code:
#include <stdlib.h>#include <stdio.h>
int *rowN(int rowNum, int* prevRow) {
int *rowN;
rowN=realloc(rowN,(rowNum+1)*sizeof(int));

Write a program that determines the day number (1 to 366) in a year for a date that is provided as input data. As an example, January 1st, 1994, is day 1. December 31, 1993, is day 365. December 31, 1996 is day 366, since 1996 is a leap year. A year is a leap year if it is divisible by four, except that any year divisible by 100 is a leap year only if it is divisible by 40. Your program should accept the month, day, and year as integers. Include a function leap that returns 1 if called with a leap year, 0 otherwise. Extend the requested solution so that your program continues to prompt the user for new dates until a negative year is entered. This is what I have so far.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdbool.h>
int main(void) {
int d,m,y;
int days=0;
int k;
[Code] .....
I am unsure how to make this a loop so that it keeps asking for dates?

I am writing a program that deals with 2d arrays. The program inputs the number of rows and columns and asks for the entries. When the program run and compiles it works perfectly until it outputs then it gives me a warning.
Here is my code:
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
int row1=0,col1=0,i,j;
//int a[row1][col1];
int** a= new int*[row1];
[Code]...
I am learning how to do this before I can move on so it can read a text file of numbers.
Also I am having problems with ////delete [] a[];///// I took it out because it made my code compile and run but when I add it in, it gives me an error:
matrixtesting.cpp|56|error: expected primary-expression before ']' token|
I know this expression is suppose to deallocate the array.

An ImageList_Create() function (see here) takes 2 parameters: cx and cy which are the width and height of each image.
Everything is good if I know in advance what size my images will have. But what if I don't?
Let's say I select 32x32 and my images are sized as 16x16. What will happen with the image list? Or my images are 48x48 and the image list should grow to accomodate the extra space. Since on Windows image list is just one big bitmap, will the height of the image list shrink/grow to 16/48 or not? Is there a way to test such behavior?
The problem I'm having is to check whether the actual images will be truncated when they are bigger that the image list initial size or not or whether I will see some extra space if the images are smaller.
The closest way I see is this function, but I am not sure its the right one to apply to the image list itself and not to the image inside the list.
How to test this properly and reliably on Windows XP+?

The program I have is from a tutorial where the user enters two points on a line, and then the program calculates the mid-point and slope.
I want to modify it from it's initial form so that co-ordinates can be input in (x,y) fashion. Right now the user has to enter the x-coordinate, enter a space, and then enter the y-coordinate (lame...)
I saw people using SStream and using that to either write functions to ignore the comma or similar things for converting one file into an array, but not quite what I am trying here.
// program to determine slope of a line
#include <ios>
#include <iostream>
#include <istream>
#include <limits>

void myflush ( istream& in ) {

I'm having trouble figuring out how to find the size of an array program that involves "struct."
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
struct d{
char* a;
float b;
int c;
[code].....
When I run this program, the output is 80(for my compiler). That would mean that each element in the array is 16 bytes but I don't understand how struct d is 16 bytes.

Write a program that will predict the size of a population of organisms. The program should ask the user for the starting number of organisms, their average daily population increase (as a percentage), and the number of days they will multiply. A loop should display the size of the population for each day.
Input Validation: Do not accept a number less than 2 for the starting size of the population. Do not accept a negative number for average daily population increase. Do not accept a number less than 1 for the number of days they will multiply.
My code works fine just up until the end.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int organisms = 0, growthRate, rate, days, amount = 0;
//int x; //for loop

I am new to C. I've been trying to use C to code some statistical functions originally coded in R. I've encountered an interesting phenomenon. In the function foo1, I declared the array v1v2b using an actual value 1999000. The function runs fine when I call it in R.
Code:
void foo1(double *x, double *y, int *nsamp){
int i, j, k, oper=2, l;
double* v1v2=malloc(sizeof(double)*((*nsamp)*(*nsamp-1)/2 + 1));
outer_pos(x, y, nsamp, &v1v2[0]);
double v1v2b[1999000]; //<-------HERE
for(i=1; i<= 1999000]; i++){
v1v2b[i-1]=1;
} }
However, in foo2, I first create an integer variable called index, and store the value 1999000 in it. I then use it to initialize the same array. When I tried calling this function in R, it either led to a stack overflow error, or completely crashed R.
Code:
void foo2(double *x, double *y, int *nsamp){
int i, j, k, oper=2, l;
double* v1v2=malloc(sizeof(double)*((*nsamp)*(*nsamp-1)/2 + 1));

I'm pretty new to C++ and I'm on Binary Trees in "Jumping into C++"! I've just created a DLL project on Code::Blocks, and I cannot get it to build and run: "You must select a host application to "run" a library..." is the message that I'm getting when I run the main code file. It's had no changes to it (except for a few extra, unnecessary line feeds), and it's the file which Code::Blocks generates on a DLL project.

I was trying to make boost's serialization use less bytes, and I stumbled upon this, which removes the big debugging symbols:
strip --strip-debug
or
strip -w -K '!*serialization*'
This seems like a working command on msys, but how to implement this into code blocks.
