C++ :: Program To Determine Coin Change

Oct 20, 2013

I have a current assignment for C++ involving us to make a program to determine coin change for example if you input the number 127 you would need 2 half dollars 1quarter and 2 pennies I have no way how to program this.

This is my code that doesn't do what i want it to

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main ( ) {
float change;
int half_dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies; // declare variables

C++ :: Coin / Money Change Code Doesn't Give Exact Change

Feb 20, 2013

My coin/money change code works when there can be an exact change each time, i.e. when the 1 cent option is available. However, when the change options are only $10, $5, $1, 25 cents and 10 cents, it does not give me what I want for instance, I wanted to get change for $237.80, I was expecting to get:

23 10's, one 5, two 1's and 8 dimes. However, the code below is giving me 23 10's, one 5, two 1's and 3 quarters (there is no option left for the 5 remaining cents).how to fix it?

Code:
#include<iostream>
#include<algorithm>
#include<vector>
using namespace std;
void change(double cents, int a[]);
int main() {
double Dollars;
double cents;

C++ :: Dollar To Coin Value Program?

Jan 26, 2014

I am currently using Xcode on a Mac to compile a c++ program. My class uses Codeblocks and I am having issues with the variable names and commands.

The assignment is to write a program that calculates the quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies needed to input the amount of money. We have to apply the largest value coins first and use modulus for the remainder.

the input for turning in is: 398

This is idea I am getting...

#include <iostream>
int input;
int quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies;
cout<<"Enter dollar amount: ";
cin>> input;
quarters = inputquarters/.25;

C++ :: Program To Simulate Coin Toss

Nov 14, 2013

Write a program that simulates coin tossing. For each toss of the coin, the program should print Heads or Tails. Let the program toss the coin 100 times and count the number of times each side of the coin appears. Print the results. The program should call a separate function flip that takes no arguments and returns 0 for tails and 1 for heads. [Note: If the program realistically simulates the coin tossing, then each side of the coin should appear approximately half the time.]

C++ :: Determine Number Of Times Change Each Specific Character In String To Make It Palindrome

Feb 19, 2015

I'm trying to determine the number of times I have to change each specific character in a string to make it a palindrome. You can only change a character one at a time from the end.

Example: "abc" -> "abb" -> "aba" should print 2. "aba" will print 0 because it's already a palindrome. "abcd" -> "abcc" -> "abcb" -> "abca" -> "abba" will print 4 because it took 4 changes to make a palindrome.

I'm not too sure how to approach this - I figured out the case where if it's a palindrome (if reversed string is the same) then it'll print out a 0.

int main() {
int number;
cin >> number; //expecting a number for first line user input
for (int i = 0; i < number; i++) {
string str;

C++ :: Coin Program Not Taking In Amount Of Cents In Input

Mar 1, 2013

I'm currently working on a program to take the user's input as DDDD.CC and then converting it to the least amount of coins using quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. I was told to not use any doubles or floats as they would produce errors. And supposed to the use the library function atoi() after I take the input user's amount as a string to convert it into an integer.

So far the string input has worked and it produced the right number of quarters but it leaves off the cents. For example, I put in 352.23 and it gives the right amount of quarters but leaves off the 23 cents.here's my code:

#include <iostream> // Allows the program to perform input and output
#include <stdlib.h> // Atoi
#include <string>
using namespace std ; // Enables a program to use all the names in any Standard C++ header
int main() // Start of program execution {
string line ;

C :: Program That Determine Day Number In A Year For A Date?

Oct 21, 2013

Write a program that determines the day number (1 to 366) in a year for a date that is provided as input data. As an example, January 1st, 1994, is day 1. December 31, 1993, is day 365. December 31, 1996 is day 366, since 1996 is a leap year. A year is a leap year if it is divisible by four, except that any year divisible by 100 is a leap year only if it is divisible by 40. Your program should accept the month, day, and year as integers. Include a function leap that returns 1 if called with a leap year, 0 otherwise. Extend the requested solution so that your program continues to prompt the user for new dates until a negative year is entered. This is what I have so far.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdbool.h>
int main(void) {

int d,m,y;
int days=0;
int k;

[Code] .....

I am unsure how to make this a loop so that it keeps asking for dates?

C :: Two Stumbling Blocks - Determine Size Of Rows To Create In Program

Apr 18, 2014

Working on an assignment and I've hit TWO stumbling blocks. I now have to take the first line from a .txt file and use that number to determine the size of rows to create in my program. I am using fscanf but the program hangs. How can I read in this number, store it and use it in a for loop?

The second issue is after reading this number I have to print each number in the .txt file under a different column. (Note that it skips a line after reading the row count.) The .txt file is set up as follows:

9 1 3 6 4 7 8 8 6 1

The output should look sort of like:

Number 1 3 6 4 7 8 8 6 1

Here's my attempt:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <conio.h>
#include <math.h>

int number;

C++ :: Program To Determine Slope Of A Line - Stuck On Commas When Entering Numbers

Jan 1, 2013

The program I have is from a tutorial where the user enters two points on a line, and then the program calculates the mid-point and slope.

I want to modify it from it's initial form so that co-ordinates can be input in (x,y) fashion. Right now the user has to enter the x-coordinate, enter a space, and then enter the y-coordinate (lame...)

I saw people using SStream and using that to either write functions to ignore the comma or similar things for converting one file into an array, but not quite what I am trying here.

C/C++ :: Calculating Change From A Purchase Program?

Dec 30, 2014

the problem and my code is at the bottom, the thing is when i checked out what my change was, it was it was like -14.23 which is werid.

Write a program that determines the change that the user should receive after having paid for their purchase. Your program

prompts the user for the number of items purchased
accepts the number of items purchased
prompts the user for the unit price of each item
accepts the unit price of each item
calculates the total purchase price, including HST
outputs the total purchase price
prompts the user for the cash tendered
accepts the amount of cash tendered
calculates the change owed to the user
outputs the number of loonies in the change
outputs the number of cents in the change

You may assume that the user enters valid amounts and tenders enough cash to cover the total purchase price.

The output from your program looks something like:

Enter the number of items : 4
Enter the unit price : 3.15
Purchase price 12.60
HST (13%) 1.64
Total price 14.24
Cash tendered 20.00
Change loonies 5
Change cents 76

C++ :: Ways To Change Color Scheme Of Program

IE; What number do you want to process? 2684
Starting number 2684
End result 384

I know how to start the begging of the program, but i dont understand how to have it to where you can type in all four digits and then it will multiply each number by the other. Also, what are some ways to change the color scheme of the program? I know how it works using CMD, but in Visual C++ its totally different aha.

C :: How To Determine Length Of Array

I'm working with arrays that might have NULL bytes in them and I'm wondering how to determine the length of the array or store it somewhere with the array (strlen() won't work because of the NULL, right?).

I've found advice like store the length of the array in the first byte of the array, but since sizeof(size_t) is 8 should I leave the first 8 bytes for the length?

Would it be better do define my own structure which would store the array and its length? What's the usual way these things are handled in practice?
