C++ :: Enter A Value And It Will Return Corresponding Correct Answers From Tables

Dec 17, 2013

Currently I have to manually look up values on several different tables in different locations. I have 8 or 10 tables with 100 to 500 parts.

I would like to write a program so if I enter a value it will return the corresponding correct answers from the tables.

If I entered 2.5 for a value it would return the following three items from the tables since they all meet the requirement.

Table 2
Part min max
235 2.4 2.9

Table 6
Part min max
589 2.3 2.5

Table 7
Part min max
12 2.3 2.7

What would the best method be for setting up and accessing tables like this? Is C++ good at representing something like this or should I be looking at a different language?

C++ :: Correct Answer From File - Cin Getting Wrong User Input

May 31, 2014

So I'm writing a program that will read a text file and it will do certain "functions" the text file will be like a game, and the program will be able to run many different games. The problem i'm having is in one of the "functions" i believe it's the one meant to get a correct choice from a file and a user input and put them into strings, it gets the wrong input. I know this because i tested both strings the "function" writes too. it gets the correct file answer but the user input is always "c" for some reason.

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
#include <stdlib.h>
using namespace std;
int progfiles() {

[Code] ....

This is the code, most likely the section that is surrounded with "///" contains the problematic "functions." This is the command Line output...investigate why they're dieing or continue on your journey?(i-investigate/c-continue) got input and answer

i
c
i
Press any key to continue . . .

The got input and answer are tests to make sure it got both, the first 'i' is my input, the 'c' is what it says my input is, and the 'i' is the correct answer from the file. this is the part of the file that the program reads to get that output

"1 Do you want to go investigate why they're dieing or continue on your journey?(i-investigate/c-continue) 2 8 i 7 3 4 You continue on picking up speed to get to the egg first.. and.. Oh No, You accidentally bumped into the walls! 2 12 5 1 You go over, and as you realize the walls are acidic and that's why the other sperm are dieing.. 2 6"

C++ :: Char Arrays - Getting User Input Through Different Methods

May 29, 2014

I've been experimenting with char arrays and getting user input through different methods.

int main() {
char userInput[21];
/*I understand that over here, a maximum of 20 letters can be input, and only letters before a space will be stored in userInput*/
std::cin >> userInput;
std::cout << userInput << std::endl;

[Code] ....

As I was testing, whenever I would input a single word for userInput (for example "hi"), the program would work as expected: it would output "hi" and I'd be able to input a sentence of sorts for userInput2 (for example "hello world") and have it outputted.

But if I were to input more than one word for user Input (for example "hi how are you"), the program would output "hi" as expected, but it wouldn't let me input anything for userInput2 and would just output the rest of the first input; in this case, "how are you" would be outputted and the program would end. I am not aware of the logic error at play.

C++ :: Storing Multiple Arrays Based On User Input

Feb 7, 2014

I'm trying to create a function where it allows the user to type in multiple amounts of integers, so if the user wanted to have 3 different storages that hold different integers, the input would look something like this:

5
97 12 31 2 1 //let's say this is held in variable "a"
1 3 284 3 8 // "b"
2 3 482 3 4 // "c"
2 3 4 2 3 // "d"
99 0 2 3 42 // "e"

Since we don't know what number the user will input every time, I'm not sure how to create a dynamically allocated array that will create an x amount of arrays every time.. I want to be able to access each index of a, b, c, d, e or however many arrays there are.

So far, this is what I have, but I'm having trouble creating the arrays since it's unpredictable. I'm purposely not using vectors because I don't really get how pointers work so I'm trying to play around with it.

int* x;
int length, numbers;
cin >> length;
x = new int[length]
for (int i=0;i<length;i++)
{
cin >> numbers; //this doesn't work because it only grabs the first line for some reason
x[i] = numbers
}

This program adds fractions. ‘Y’ continues, any other key exits program

Enter denominator 1 ==> 3
Enter numerator 2 ==> 1
Enter denominator 2 ==> 6
1 1 1

3 6 2

Continue? Y or N! ==> n

My question is that i need each input to be a number.
if a character is entered i want it to output something like..

This program adds fractions. ‘Y’ continues, any other key exits program

Enter denominator 1 ==> a
You need to enter a number here.

Visual C++ :: Input Validation Error Using Arrays

Jul 18, 2013

I have not completed this program yet, but I have already run into a snag. For the Input Validation part, every time you enter a number regardless if it is positive it will still display the cout statement: "Please enter positive values". The program runs correctly where I currently am at, but it just keeps reading that statement even if a user enters a positive value. I have run the debugger, but it really is not showing me anything other than I notice it jumping to that statement after every value that is entered.

Here is my code, once again I have not finished this yet, but I would really like to get this fixed first before I continue. I will keep debugging in the meantime...

Code:
// A local zoo wants to keep track of how many pounds of food each of its three monkeys eats each day during a typical week. Write a program that stores this information in a two-dimensional 3 X 7 array, where each row represents a different monkey and each column represents a different day of the week. The program should first have the user input the data for each monkey. Then it should create a report that includes the following information:

// Average amount of food eaten per day by the whole family of monkeys.
// The least amount of food eaten during the week by any one monkey.
// The greatest amount of food eaten during the week by any one monkey.

// Input validation: Do not accept negative numbers for pounds of food eaten.

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
using namespace std;

int main() {
double totalAverage = 0; // variable to store the total average, initalized to zero

Visual C++ :: Comparison Of 2 Double Values

Dec 27, 2013

I have std::vector of players and each player have its own value. The value is of the type double, but the original value are of the "XX.00".

Now what I'm trying to do is to insert a player into this vector. For that I need to find a place and to find a place I need to compare player value.

So lets say I have a player in the vector whose value is 24.00 and I am trying to insert a player whose value is 25.00. To my surprise MSVC 2010 tells me that:

24.0000000000000 == 25.00000000000

I do aware that comparing double type is not going to work like this, but I would expect not to have such big of a difference. ;-)

Why this comparison is true and how to eliminate such thing?

Visual C++ :: Write A Program Where The User Will Input Integer Numbers?

Oct 21, 2014

I have to write a program where the user will input integer numbers. How many numbers they enter is unknown, therefor you should use a repetition structure for the input. When the user is done, they will enter -1 to exit.

Create a dynamic array if the size=2( the initial size must be 2) Repeat until user enters -1.

I have to do this without using vectors.

This is what i have, I cannot figure out what to put in main. I was thinking of a do-while?

Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void resize(int *[], int);
int main() {
int *listDyn;

C++ :: Fscanf And Verifying Correct Input Length

Jan 24, 2012

I am trying to make a program that will read in input in the following format:

| ...text... || ...more text... || ...still more text...|

i.e. every bit of "text" that gets read in is bracketed on either side by the "|" character.

The buffer that i read them into can be of a maximum length of 101 (100 characters plus a terminating null character); this is how I am currently reading in the input:

char readString [100 + 1];
while ( fscanf(infile, "|%1000[^|]|", readString) ){
/*... manipulate readString ...*/
}

How might I design this program so that, should any of the text appearing between the "|" characters exceed 100 in length, it exits and returns a warning?

C++ :: Best Way To Show A Program Remotely And Also Provide Console Input?

Sep 27, 2013

I want some people to see my C++ program, enter inputs (they can enter number 1, 2, 3, etc) as CIN, and then the program runs as it would if they were sitting in my place.

I have seen a few places which try to do this e.g.

[URL]

The problem is the CIN is not fully featured. For example in the first website you have to enter the input before you run the program. So that would not work for a program where CIN was being done all the time.

So I can get a domain, ask them to telnet into the Linux shell and compile and run my c++ Demo program. Is that the best way? Thats the worst case. I send them the .cpp file and they'll have to run and compile it on their own machine.

The best case is that they click on a link, get an online console and interact with it like they would with a real input/output c++ interface.how this can be done?
