C++ :: How To Add String Prompt Along With Two Int Values Into A Function

Feb 28, 2013

I've been having issues trying to figure out how to add a string prompt along with two int values into a function. The program is complete outside of the getValue function (which gives me errors when trying to run with it included)

Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
//Symbolic constant for the value of PI

[Code] ....

I believe it works correctly outside of the getValue function issue.

C# :: Making String Equal Many Different Values Then Compare Those Values

Dec 18, 2014

I was wondering if this was even possible and if so, how do I do it.

else if (speech.ToLower().Contains("truck") && speech.EndsWith(number))
{
Here I would like to see if my speech had ended with any of the values i would have stored in the string "numbers". If it did, I would like to just take the value and add it to a new string called whatever
}

I have tried this a million different ways and I cant get it to work. I'm not even sure how I would go about storing tons of different numbers in one string, or if that's even possible.

C++ :: Pass 2 Arrays Into Void Function And Return Values To One Function?

Feb 12, 2014

I'm trying to pass 2 arrays into a void funtion, and return values to one function.

this is the the program I'm working with, after I'm done I have to split it into 3 files, a header, a main, and a separate cpp file for the functions to live in.

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void processArrary(int numberCount[], int Numbers[], int intnumberSize, int numberCountSize);
int main() {
int Scores[26] = {76, 89, 150, 135, 200, 76, 12, 100, 150, 28, 178, 189, 167, 200, 175, 150, 87, 99, 129, 149, 176, 200, 87, 35, 157, 189};
int numberCount[8] = { 0 };

[code]...

The goal of this program is to separate and count the groups of numbers then output the amount of numbers in each group. Near as I can tell, everthing should work, but I'm getting all zeros to be displayed in each group.

C# :: Linked List Storing String Values

Apr 8, 2015

I am creating a to-do list application and to store the tasks on the list, I am trying to create a linked list. the code for it so far is as follows:

public class Node //Class for nodes which make up a linked list {
//Declaring the data to be stored in each node and next variable to point to the next node
public string title;
public string description;
public string priority;
public string finish;
public string complete;

[Code] ....

The problem with this arises when I try to create a new node from another class like so:

createForm create = new createForm(); //Creates an object reference to createForm
create.ShowDialog(); //Shows the createTask form for creating a new task
//Declares variables and stores the return value of methods in createForm
string _title = create.getTitle;

[Code] ....

The variables _title etc.. all store values from text boxes as string. However, the code creating the object says the the variables cannot be implicitly converted from type 'string' to 'int'. Why this error is happening??

C++ :: Sorting Some Data Based On Values Of A String Of Bits

Apr 1, 2014

I have a problem I am working on where I need to sort some data based on the values of a string of bits. The strings look like this,

010000001110000000

there are 18 bits, 1 means a feature is present, 0 means the feature is absent.

Each of these string has 4 on bits. I need to sort them such that I have the longest possible runs with 3 of the same on bits. It doesn't matter which 3 bits are on, I am just looking to order them in blocks with the longest possible runs. As a second step, the ordered blocks will be sorted by size large>small.

The following data is ordered like I need it to be.

Code:
// block 1, run of 12, keys 1,2,11 are identical (key 12 is also identical)
011000000001100000
011000000001100000
011000000001100000
011000000001100000

[Code] .....

This is the sort order that I am looking for. I need to be able to take a list of the bit strings in any particular order and sort them into the order above. The algorithm would need to recognize that there are 4 on keys and then look for groupings of three common on keys.

This is more of an algorithm question than one about specific implementation in code. I generally assume that most programming problems have been solved one way or another, so I don't know much about analyzing and manipulating strings of bits.

Is there a standard method for this kind of pattern recognition?

C Sharp :: Updating String Values Into Custom Data Xml Field

The page that performs the update is a .cs page. Here is the layout:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Configuration;
using System.Data.SqlClient;

This definitely works for updating one author's name:

if (old.Author != Author) RequestItem.UpdateField(LibraryDocID, Editor, "Author", Author);

I just can not nail down how to insert a string of author's names.

You can return values from functions by ref, address or value you can also do this with parameters, so what is the difference, if you have full return of a passed parameter by ref or address why would you need to ever return the function as a whole?

For ex
Code: int nValue(int& y){
y++;
}
or int& nVlaue(int y){
return y;

C :: Passing Values To A Function Error

Apr 29, 2014

I'm working through the Let us C book. One exercise asks me to collect int and float , then pass them to a function that gets product of these and returns it to main. My code looks like this:

Code:

#include <stdio.h>#include <stdlib.h>
main()
{
int a;
float b, c;

[Code]...

So while compiling i get an error about conflicting types for product. I tried to google that error but couldn't understand what's the problem. My only clue is that i can't pass int and float to a function at the same time... Could that be it?

C++ :: Return 3 Values From A Single Function

Jun 7, 2013

I've got the program for the most part except one part because it's basically wanting me to return 3 values from a single function and I'm unsure how to do this the way it wants me to. The rules:

Call the user-defined function to read in x in the series to be used for calculating the results. Pass a prompt for x as an input parameter, and return the validated x value to main.

After a valid x has been entered, call the same user defined function a second time, to read in y. Pass the prompt for y as an input parameter, and return the validated number of terms value to main.

After a valid y has been entered, call the same user-defined function a third time, to read in z. Pass the prompt for z as an input parameter, and return the validated z value to main.

C++ :: Write A Function Returning 2 Values?

So I have a function like the one below

bool get_array( float input_param, vector<int>& output_param ){
// some code that handles output_param output
if( error ) return false;
}

So basiclly this function must return 2 value well one of the value is just a bool returning whether the procedure doesn't fail at some point or not.

is there any better way to write this function ?

C++ :: Function Returns Values After Loop Done

May 15, 2013

I am writing a program with a function that includes a long loop. I need this function to return a value when each loop is done, to send this value to output, in order to follow the progression. But I don't know how to do it in easy way. The function is like follow:

int goC(){
... // some local value definition
for(int i = 0; i < 1000; i++){
... // a lot of calculations done here
return i; // -> return the value after each loop is done
}
}

Here it only returns one value, i = 0. Clearly it's wrong.

C/C++ :: Values Passed To Put Function But Not Having Any Effect

Feb 9, 2015

I have this code:

tgaManager.fileWriter.put((unsigned char)min(blue*255.0f,255.0f)).put((unsigned char)min(green*255.0f, 255.0f)).put((unsigned char)min(red*255.0f, 255.0f));

that should pass the value decided by the min function to an ofstream object, filewriter, that call the put method to print chars in a tga image file. When I open the file, all I see it is a huge black screen. You may be thinking that the values of blue,green and red are all zero but it is not the case.

With this code:

if (x==50 && y==50) {
cout << "Min BGR: " << endl;
cout << min (blue*255.0f,255.0f) << ' ' << min (green*255.0f,255.0f) << ' ' << min (red*255.0f,255.0f) << ' ' << x << ' ' << y << endl;

I get: Min BGR: 9.54167 29.9188 47.8701 50 50

C :: Insertion Sort Function Crashing If 8 Or More Values?

Jan 15, 2015

This program I'm working on accepts an array size from the user, prompts the user to store that many integers, sorts them from smallest to largest, and then searches for duplicates with a simple for loop. The ultimate goal of the assignment was to display duplicates in an array, and the rest of the functions are just how I decided to reach that goal.

Anyway, my program crashes if I choose an array size larger than 7. It sorts and displays duplicates perfectly with 7 or fewer arguments.

The exact moment it crashes is after I enter the final value it prompts me for, so it appears my inputsize() function and my inputarray() function are working, and the error may be in the arrsort() function. Code is below:

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int funcinputsize(int);
void funcinputarray(int [], int size);
void funcarrsort(int [], int size);
void funcdupe(int [], int size);

C++ :: Changing Values In A Matrix Using Void Function

Jun 29, 2013

I have the following void function devised to assign "+1" or "-1" to each element of a matrix at random. While the function does what I want, when I print the values of the matrix all are set to zero:

#include <vector>
#include "aRand.h"
#include <iostream>
void initConfig(std::vector<std::vector<int> > premat, int nL, int nN) {
int * pnRand;
pnRand = 0;

The function pnRand_plus returns a pointer to an array of random numbers from 1 to 100, with seed time(NULL) + i. The values printed in main are zero, despite the values printed during the function run are fine (-1s and +1s).
