I am trying to get all these functions work together and send the value of countX and countY back into main from function2() and function3() to be used by function4() later on.. But I keep getting 0 printed out and I am not quite sure why.

Code:

#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
#include<time.h>
#define maxrow 20 //defines maxrow as a constant of 20
#define maxcol 30 //defines maxcol as a constant of 30

C++ :: Text Game - How To Make Player Go Back To Previous Location

Mar 19, 2013

I have started making a text adventure game.

if (Choice == 2) {
cout << "" << endl << "You follow the light to the end of the hallway, you find your self in a room" << endl
<< "with natural light coming from a hole in the ceiling." << endl << "" << endl << "You hear the door you just came through, slam behind you!" << endl << "" << endl
<< "There are three possible directions." << endl << "" << endl << "Do you:" << endl << "" << endl << "1) Go forward" << endl << "" << endl << "2) Go left" << endl

[Code] .....

Ignore the if (Choice == 2) at the beginning, that's linked to some previous code.

I want to make the player go back to the first bit of text but i'm not sure how to do this if they keep choosing to go back and forth from one location.

I first thought of doing it by just putting the text back in after they have chosen the option, but I can't do this infinite times.

C/C++ :: Shifting Characters - How To Make Letters Loop Back To The Start

Feb 9, 2015

I have to make a function that i'll later be able to use for a ceasar cypher. The letters should shift a user inputted number. This is what I have so far:

char shiftChar(char c, int s) {
char ch = c;
int shift = s;
int newC;
newC = int(ch) + shift;
return newC;
}

The problem with this, is that it doesn't loop back to the start of the alphabet once i get past z.

C++ :: Loop Program To Go Back Without Losing Values Of Variables?

Mar 30, 2014

I know that returning to main() is not a good idea but how will I loop the program to go back to the position selection when the voter is done voting for the last position.

when I run the program it seems fine. getting the votes from President to PRO Position is fine. The problem is how will the next voter vote without losing the vote (tally) of the previous voter?

FLOW:
SELECT POSITION (a-e) ---> SELECT A CANDIDATE (a-c) ---> (this goes on until the position of PRO) ---> ( then go back to the POSITION SELECTION)

After every vote there is a case statement for which I can choose to vote for the next position, quit, or show results (and after showing the results it will go to the next position to vote)....

#include<iostream>
#include<string>
#include <conio.h>

Visual C++ :: Writing A Function That Sort Elements Of Array In Numerical Order?

Oct 17, 2014

I have to write a function called sortMe that sorts the elements of an array in numerical order from highest to lowest values (descending order) or vice versa (ascending order).

The assignment asks to: NOT re-arrange elements in the array; instead, it uses a second array, an array of indexes for the elements in the original array and then sortMe sorts the second array based on the values in the original array. A sorted version of the original array can then be produced with these sorted indexes.

Header of the function sortMe must be as shown below:

void sortMe(int array[],int sortedIndexes [], int size, char mode)

When mode is 'a', the function sorts the array in the ascending order, and when mode is 'd', the function sorts it in the descending order.

Declare and initialize the array array.

Declare the array sortedIndexes but do not initialize it. You are going to play with the array sortedIndexes in the function sortMe.

EXAMPLE:

int array[5]={3, 5,-1,10,0};
int sortedIndexes[5];
sortMe(array,sortedIndexes, 5, 'a');

After the function call, the elements of the array sortedIndexes should be: 2,4,0,1,3.

notice that the function does not e-arrange the elements in the array.

Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void sortMe(int[], int, char);
void main() {
int arr[6] = { 14, -5, 5, 0, 22, -99 };

[code]...

how to use the other array.

C :: How To Loop Back To The Beginning Of Function

Oct 11, 2014

I am writing another program and I cannot find for the life of me how to loop the program back to the start of a function.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(void) {
int choice;
char band1, band2, band3, band4;
printf ("This program calculates the resistor value based on the colours of the wire.
(enter the integer near the command)
");
printf ("What would you like to do?

[Code].....

This is my current iteration of the program. Obviously, I haven't finished writing the case 1 of the first switch, but for the other ones. I thought that return main would cause the program to loop back to the beginning after executing the case, but I see that it is not the case (pun not intended). Anyways, what would I have to insert to cause the program to loop again (other than for case 3)? And another question, why is it that in scanf in the first case, the program only accepts two characters before finishing?

C++ :: Function With 3 Arguments - Bring Back New Number Generated With Replacement

Oct 26, 2014

Write a function that takes 3 arguments. The function has to bring back a new number that has been generated with the replacement of the figure that is on a given position in the number with a figure that is been transferred as an argument(have in mind that the position of the figure is being counted from right to left,starting from one). Write a main program in which the newly formed numbers will be printed for numbers of a range written by the user.

Example: if you wrote the numbers 2276,3 and 5 the function should bring back the number 2576

If you didn't understand the text, the example shows that in the number 2276, the number has been counted from right to left by the second argument "3" and in the place of the figure "2" has been put the figure "5".

This is where I got stuck, I can't figure out how to make the replacement.

int argument(int x,int y,int z) {
return 0;
} int main() {
int a,b,c;
printf("Enter a value for a(100-999):");
scanf("%d",&a);

C++ :: Keyboard Function That Is Called In Main Function To Make Shape Move

Ok so I am working on a game and I'm in the process of developing my Player class. Anyways, what I have is a keyboard function that is called in my main function to make a shape move.

void myKeyboardFunction(unsigned char key, int x, int y) {
switch ( key ) {

[Code].....

But when I try to call it, trying to copy my previous method,

glutKeyboardFunc(Player1.playerControls);

I get an error

error C3867: 'Player::playerControls': function call missing argument list; use '&Player::playerControls' to create a pointer to member

I get an error saying it can't convert parameters. I would just like to understand why the arguments become a problem when I make the function a member of my class, when the first method I used is so easy.

C++ :: Floating Point Numbers / Numerical Analysis

Oct 30, 2013

I have the problem of trying to find the smallest natural number that makes two consecutive terms in single precision floating point notation in the riemann zeta function equal. So basically the riemann function of 2 is given by:

sum of 1/(k^2) from k=1 until infinity, so : 1/(1^2) + 1/(2^2) + 1/(3^2) + ...... until infinity.

Now the question asks to stop at the smallest natural number n, at which the sum 1/1^2 + 1/2^2 + ......+ 1/(n^2) is equal to the sum 1/1^2 + 1/2^2 + ..... + 1/((n+1)^2) in single precision floating point notation.

Now well the obvious way to look for n would be on this way:

float i = 1.0;
float n = 1/(i);
float n1 = 1/(i+1.0);
while ( n != n1){
i += 1.0;
n = 1/i;
n1 = 1/(i+1.0);}

But first of all this is obviously completely inefficient and I dont think it will yield a valid answer for any float variable, i.e. I dont think the sum until 1/n^2 and 1/(n+1)^2 will ever differ. I tried it out with the largest possible value of a variable of type float and the values were still seen as unequal in C++. How to do this? Will C++ find a value for n for which the condition holds? Is the compiler or my hardware important for this, i.e. would I get different results on a different pc?

C++ :: Pass 2 Arrays Into Void Function And Return Values To One Function?

Feb 12, 2014

I'm trying to pass 2 arrays into a void funtion, and return values to one function.

this is the the program I'm working with, after I'm done I have to split it into 3 files, a header, a main, and a separate cpp file for the functions to live in.

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void processArrary(int numberCount[], int Numbers[], int intnumberSize, int numberCountSize);
int main() {
int Scores[26] = {76, 89, 150, 135, 200, 76, 12, 100, 150, 28, 178, 189, 167, 200, 175, 150, 87, 99, 129, 149, 176, 200, 87, 35, 157, 189};
int numberCount[8] = { 0 };

The goal of this program is to separate and count the groups of numbers then output the amount of numbers in each group. Near as I can tell, everthing should work, but I'm getting all zeros to be displayed in each group.

C :: How To Make A Sort Function

Feb 28, 2013

Im suppose to make a "poor mans" variation to the Sort function built into unix. The program is suppose to read in a file and sort the contents of the file. So its a variation of the Unix Sort feature. I have remade the readLine function we were provided so that it doesnt use fgets. where to go from here, Not sure on how to make a sort function. Here are the reqirements of the program:

Code:

• Re-implement the readLine() function so that it no longer makes use of fgets(). Instead,
process the input on a given line character-by-character.

• Provide code which will create a data structure similar to argv to hold all of the words to be sorted. Use malloc() to ensure that each entry has just the required number of bytes needed to store the words. The final entry in your array should be the NULL pointer.

• Implement a sort() function which will rearrange the words in sorted order. To swap two words in your array, note that only a pair of pointers need to move. The strings themselves, once established, will never move. Heres what i have:

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#define MAX_LINES 1000 /* maximum number of reminders */
#define WORD_LENGTH 10 /* max length of reminder message */

[code]....
