C++ :: Creating A Loop To Calculate Formula?

Mar 21, 2014

I am trying to create a code and cannot get the following part to work :

for (int n = 0; n = timesteps; n++)
{
n = n + 0.1 ;
cout<< "timesteps"<< n << endl ; //print time step value =0.1
for (int j = 0; j < nodesinx; j++)
{
T[j][n+1] = T[j][n] + 0.16 * (T[j][n] - 1[n] - 2[T[j][n] + T[j] + 1[n] ; //equation
n= n + 0.1 ;
cout<< "temperature" << T[j][n+1] << endl;
T[j][n+1] = 0.0 ;
}
}

I suspect both are very similar problems. I've tried several different calculations, but cannot figure this out.

bool ContinuePgm();

C/C++ :: Creating A Binary Search Loop?

Oct 13, 2014

I am creating a binary search program that lets the user input up to 10 integers and then the program displays the array and sorts it. When the user is prompted to select an integer, if the integer is in the array, the program responds with the array subscript part. I can get the loop to work once and maximum twice, but then it wont search for the array or say value not found even though the number in in the array. I tried making the values NULL but that only lets me go through it one more time.

Here is my code:

#include <iostream>

C :: How To Calculate Sum Of Two Lines In Array (for Loop)

Mar 19, 2013

I'm having trouble figuring out how to calculate the sum of two lines in the array(for loop)? And the next part, I can return the values to the main program however, how do I do it with c pointers?

(1) Write a C function that takes an integer array argument. The array argument has two rows and NDATA columns where NDATA is a symbolic constant. For each column in the array argument, the function calculates the sum of the values in the first and second row. The function returns to its calling program (using a second argument and call by reference as implemented with C pointers) the maximum of these sums. Additionally the function returns the column subscript where this maximum first occurs. This subscript value is returned the usual way (using a return statement). etc...

Here is the start of the array program

Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
#define NDATA 5 /* define number of data per row */
int row; /* count rows */
int column; /* count columns */

C :: Program To Calculate Factorial Of Numbers - For Loop

Feb 5, 2013

I have been working on a program to calculate the factorial of numbers. Part of my code is copied and modified from the FAQ about validating numbers in user input.

I have encountered a problem with the for loop that I am using near the end of my code. No matter what I do, it seems that my loop only does the multiplication of b = a*(a-1) and then prints. For example, inputting 5 will result in a print of 20, but the factorial is 120.

Code:
int main(void) {
char buf[BUFSIZ];
char *p;
long int a;
long int b;
long int i;

C :: Creating Simple Address Book Struct - For Loop?

May 11, 2014

My address book will be simple, and the thing's that I'm expecting to use in it are :

Pointers, Linked Lists
Malloc
Structs
Typedefs
Makefile, header file
Putting functions into different program files

I have started the program trying to create a struct, and getting it working with a couple of entries before going onto user input and splitting it up.

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(void) {
// Struct type address book. Just a name, a number and a pointer

[Code] .....

I'm a bit lost at this point... My knee jerk thought is to create a for loop, and cycle through the list.

I'm not sure how this would apply to this though? Without using the familiar type of print loop such as :

Code:
for (i = 0; ;i++) {
printf("%i
", array[i];
}

I'm thinking that I need to create a temporary struct that can be used to assign the value of the next struct in the list, and then somehow print from that....

I'll try and write the logic out :

while temp != NULL (The last node value is assigned NULL to show us where the end of the list is)

create a temporary pointer that can be used to keep track of where we are in the list.

print out the current entry name and number

then assign the temp pointer value to the * next of the current struct. So if we are in entry1 the *next should be the address of entry 2.

Print out entry 2 name and number, assign entry 2 next to the temp value.

C++ :: Calculate Average Of A Stream Of Positive Numbers - Loop Program?

Feb 25, 2013

Write a program that calculates the average of a stream of positive numbers. The user can enter as many positive numbers as they want, and they will indicate that they are finished by entering a negative number. For this program, treat zero as a positive number, i.e., zero counts as a number that goes into the average. Of course, the negative number should not be part of the average. You must use a function to read in the numbers, keep track of the running sum and count, compute the average, and return the average to the main() function. Note that you must use a loop to do this, as you don't know how many numbers the user will enter ahead of time. I am having problem writing a loop program for it..

My test files are located in D://data// and are named tst_data1 to tst_data64.

I created a loop for test set but its incorrect

Code:
// loop for test samples
char basefilename[] = "D://data//";
char , testFilen[160], numiChar[10];

for (int i=1; i<=64; i++) {
strcpy(basefilenme, "D://data//");
strcat(testfilename, Set[]);

[Code] .....

How can i call the Set .txt and how to define it.

C++ :: Calculating Area Of A Triangle Using Heron Formula

Nov 7, 2014

I need to calculate the area of a triangle using heron's formula. I wrote the code below and i need to modify it so that a user is required to keep entering the three side until he/she decides to stop. If the three sides entered make an invalid triangle, the user is required to re-enter the values until valid triangle is formed. Then the area is displayed.

#include <iostream>
#include <cmath>
using namespace std;
int main(){
double a,b,c=0;
double s,A=0;

[Code] .....

the screen output should like this:

Enter three sides of a triangle: 0 1 2 Error!
Re-enter three sides of a triangle: -1 1 2 Error!
Re-enter three sides of a triangle: 3 4 5 => 6

Continue (y/n)? y

Enter three sides of a triangle: 1 1 2 Error!
Re-enter three sides of a triangle: 6 8 10 => 24

Continue (y/n)? n

Done!

Please note that Continue (y/n)? only displayed after a valid triangle is formed. Otherwise, the user needs to re-enter sides until it's valid.

C++ :: Quadratic Formula Loss Of Significance And Simplification

Feb 16, 2015

write codes that could solve a quadratic formula, and my codes are like this:

#include <bjarne/std_lib_facilities.h>
int main()
{
cout << "Enter the coefficients of a quadratic polynomial a*x**2 + b*x +c:
";
cout << " a? ";
double a;
cin >> a;
cout << " b? ";

[code]....

Which runs perfectly, but I have 2 questions:

1. How to simplify these code? On the assignment sheet the professor wrote about using void solve_linear(double b, double c); and void solve_ quadratic (double a, double b, double c);which I currently dont understand how these works. He asked us to write a well-encapsulated (as short as possible) program.

2. These are for extra points: the precision problem of floating numbers: professor asked us to find a way to get the precise answer of it, like this: Enter the coefficients of a quadratic polynomial a*x**2 + b*x +c:
a? 1
b? -20000
c? 1.5e-9
Trying to solve the quadratic equation 1*x*x + -20000*x + 1.5e-09 == 0
Using classical formula: Two roots, x = 20000 and x = 0
Using stable formula: Two roots, x = 20000 and x = 7.5e-14

My guess is that
A. Using code like if(x1*x2=a/c) to check if numbers were approximated.
B. Somehow determine the larger one in x1 and x2.
C. Somehow use that larger one to do something
