p = pipe(pipe1);
if (p < 0) {
printf("pipe error");
exit(0);
} else {

Oct 13, 2014

When the user is prompted to select an integer, if the integer is in the array, the program responds with the array subscript part. I can get the loop to work once and maximum twice, but then it wont search for the array or say value not found even though the number in in the array. I tried making the values NULL but that only lets me go through it one more time.

C :: Creating Simple Address Book Struct - For Loop?

May 11, 2014

My address book will be simple, and the thing's that I'm expecting to use in it are :

Pointers, Linked Lists
Malloc
Structs
Typedefs
Makefile, header file
Putting functions into different program files

I have started the program trying to create a struct, and getting it working with a couple of entries before going onto user input and splitting it up.

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(void) {
// Struct type address book. Just a name, a number and a pointer

[Code] .....

I'm a bit lost at this point... My knee jerk thought is to create a for loop, and cycle through the list.

I'm not sure how this would apply to this though? Without using the familiar type of print loop such as :

Code:
for (i = 0; ;i++) {
printf("%i
", array[i];
}

I'm thinking that I need to create a temporary struct that can be used to assign the value of the next struct in the list, and then somehow print from that....

I'll try and write the logic out :

while temp != NULL (The last node value is assigned NULL to show us where the end of the list is)

create a temporary pointer that can be used to keep track of where we are in the list.

print out the current entry name and number

then assign the temp pointer value to the * next of the current struct. So if we are in entry1 the *next should be the address of entry 2.

Print out entry 2 name and number, assign entry 2 next to the temp value.

C++ :: Creating Ability To Read Pages Into Program

Feb 17, 2014

I am working on writing a game that progresses from one "page" to the next. However, with the knowledge and experience I have right now I am only able to hardcode the "Pages" into the source code. I would like to learn how to put the pages into another file "default.pages" and have the program read the file and input the information into itself after I have compiled it. Then, if I change the pages file I simply have to restart the program instead of recompiling all of it. Someone said I should use XML and input it into an object and use that object, but I'm not sure how to do that yet.

I have 3 files right now:

main.cpp, pages.cpp, and pages.h.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <fstream>
#include "pages.h"

C/C++ :: How To Get CTRL Z To Close A Pipe

Nov 9, 2012

My 'c' program reads each line of a .txt file, makes a few changes and then outputs the line of text (which are names). I want the contents to be sorted and did not want to bother writing my own sort. The program runs in a command prompt from inside a batch file for example:

sort | makelist.exe BluRay1.txt > sorted.txt
sort | makelist.exe Dvd1.txt >> sorted.txt
..etc..

I have to supply a ctrl-z manually to close the piping. I tried the following which did not work.

buffer[0] = 26;

printf("%c",buffer[0]);
//printf("^(z)");
fclose(stdout);
fclose(stdin);

I never got the above to work so I am avoiding piping and just do a redirect instead.

makelist.exe dvd1.txt > unsorted.txt
makelist.exe dvd2.txt >> unsorted.txt
sort < unsorted.txt > sorted.txt

..etc.

Just wondering if I could have gotten the ctrl-z thru the pipe using "C".

In the program I'm writing, I'm creating a linked list of students with individual data read from a file. C++ :: Restore Keyboard Stdin After Reading From Pipe?

Apr 25, 2014

I use the following code segment to read and output the text piped to a program. If there is no piped text, the code segment is skipped and then the program continues. What I need to do is restore stdin to the keyboard after reading from the pipe. I use the PeekNamedPipe() and ReadFile() because reading from stdin blocks until it has something, and I don't want that to happen. After reading from the pipe, the program begins to execute, and the main loop can be paused and it prompts for a command. I just can't figure out how to restore input to the keyboard. Obviously the platform is Windows.

C++ :: Sending Dynamic Allocated 2D Array Over Named Pipe Between 2 Executable

Oct 6, 2014

Im writing a scientific software where I like to sent a 2D array (5x4) over a named pipe from a server to a client. When im sending a static array (i.e., double res[5][4];), all goes fine and it works perfect, but when I allocate a dynamic array, it provides some nonsense numbers at the client side. I feel it might be caused because I point to a memory that cannot be shared through a pipe. Am I right and how can I pass the dynamic allocated array itself over the pipe.

Visual C++ :: Writing To Named Pipe Coming From A Service (session 0) Without Admin Rights

Dec 9, 2014

I'm trying to write to a named pipe created by a service, as we all know the session 0 isolation implemented in vista and forward makes this task a bit complicated.

well at this point i managed to make almost all to work but my real problem comes when i try to write on the named pipe from my GUI application with no administrator rights

If i run the GUI application with admin rights it works 100% but, I don't need that application to require the user admin rights and for security reasons i rather to leave it without admin...

so i started my research and i found that there is a way to achieve this by calling CreateNamedPipe() with a low integrity security attributes...

well how to implement but i finally made it, the problem is that it gets worse than passing null security attributes, it works with admin rights with NULL security attributes, but when i pass the low integrity security attributes it gives "access denied" even when using admin rights, so i guess im passing the wrong security attributes but how to manually create the security descriptor string.

This is the code:

Service (session0) SERVER

Code:
DWORD WINAPI PipeThreadRSVS(void* pParameter){
LPTSTR _PIPE_NAME = "\.pipeRSVHPipeIn";
bool Break=false;
char Received_Buffer[BlockSize+16];

C :: Y / N Option To Continue - Compiler Does Not Read It As A Loop

Jul 30, 2013

I've been having problems with my loop that asks if the user wishes to continue or not. The required input should either be 'y' or 'Y', or 'n' or 'N'. Anything else should be counted as invalid, and repeat the prompt for input. The first few times I ran my program, the compiler does not read it as a loop. The next few times just won't work properly.

Here is the prompt:
Code:
void question() {
char option;
printf("
Do you want to continue? {Y|N) ");
scanf("%c", &option);

[Code] ......

As it is, it immediately runs the else option, but otherwise runs just fine. I suspect it could be because I have not specified a size for the option variable, but I try doing that, and the prompt relegates everything to the else.

(And also, here's the rest of the code. Basically, it just assigns a value to the letters of the word (a/A = 1, b/B = 2, etc.), adds these values, and determines if a word is prime or not based on the sum.)

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>

char letter, word[size], lower, upper, option;
int i, value, ans = 0, a, choice = 1;
