C :: Creating Dynamic String?

Mar 6, 2015

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdarg.h>
char * form(char *format, ...);
}

[code]...

So, this is the code i have problem with, as far as i can see, function form actually does the same thing that printf does.It probably puts all of the arguments sent to the function together into one string.

C++ :: Creating Dynamic Arrays / Structures

Feb 7, 2012

We are supposed to create a menu with an option to add a car (make, model etc) to inventory. I have the structure format set up as far as adding the car, but I am stuck on how to make it a dynamic array of structures or whatnot (I'm not really sure on what I'm trying to do in the first place!) Basically, the user can choose to add a car and its info in. How do you set up the array to add whatever number of cars is needed? Will it be able to add more cars should the user come back to the program later?

This is the instruction of this portion of the project :

Menu Application
Add a car to inventory
Prompted to add
Make, Model and Year, Color, Miles, Price
Finish (adds the car to the file)
Cancel takes you to the main menu

C :: Dynamic Allocation Of String Pointers

Mar 12, 2014

The snippet below (or similar) compiles and runs OK but I am using Visual Studio C++ compiler. Are the lines where .nameFirst and .nameLast assigned kosher in ANSI C?

Also I am concerned about the memory allocation for these string constants. Does the runtime system put them on the heap? It doesn't seem that they are really constants since they are not defined before runtime.

Code:

#include "stdlib.h"
typedef struct
{
unsigned id;
char* nameFirst;
char* nameLast;

C :: Directly Create Dynamic String From Stdin

Sep 14, 2014

Is it possible to create a dynamic char array on the fly directly from stdin? I do not want to create a fixed length array before hand and then copy contents of it into a malloc created array.

Code: //[1]
char line[MAX1];
gets(line);

[Code]....

I could do either [1](buffer overflow problem) or [2] and then goto [3]. But both will have a problem if the input is more than the size MAX1(use defined).

Is it possible to do something of the effect of readLine() method of BufferedReader class in Java or the Console.readLine in .NET? Is it possible to peek into stdin and see the size of the input and then creat an array of the same exact size?

C++ :: Dynamic Function Execution Based On String Input

Jun 27, 2013

I've got some functions and macros that I want to execute based on a string input that matches the function's name. I came across as this being a possible solution that I'd like to pursue IF it is possible to do. To clarify, I want to be able to look at a string and if the string matches the name of a defined function or macro then it will execute. Is there an effective way to do this (or is it even possible)?

It has to be pretty robust and dynamic given the project's purpose. Basically there's an input file that is being parsed and functions should execute if called upon in the file. I can't simply match strings to their corresponding functions in decision statements, as this isn't robust and isn't scalable.

C++ :: Creating A Class Variable With A String?

May 12, 2013

I have defined a class in a header file; just the class, no templates involved. I have a program where I'm reading in data in string format. Each string consists of a word, a delimiter, and a variable name. Example:

cajun/mustard

I want to take that string and make it the variable name of that class type. It would be implemented along the lines of:

Code:
string str;
//read/process string here, get:
str = "mustard";
createName(str);
//pass string to creator function When the function is called, I should get the variable:
Class mustard;

Thing is, I'm not supposed to know beforehand what the variable names are, only that I create them as they are read in. It could be mustard, it could be Maynard_James_Keenan, it could even be bazinga.

My problem is, what do I do for createName()? I've looked into the concepts of pairing, Factory implementation, and maps, but I don't think they answer my question.

(P.S. if I run into the same variable name being read in twice, what steps can I take to make sure that a duplicate variable isn't created? Do I need to add in code, or does the compiler know to watch for multiple variables of the same name?)

C++ :: Creating Inventory - Array With More Than 1 String?

Jul 14, 2014

How would i do this? Im trying to create an inventory but this just will not work, when i do it how i have it originally (as shown below):

cout << "Do you have weapons and armor?: ";
cin >> yEquip;
if (yEquip == 'y') {
cout << endl;
string invintory2[6] =

[Code] ....

the program outputs this:

cout << "Do you have weapons and armor?: ";
cin >> yEquip;
if (yEquip == 'y'){
cout << endl;
string invintory1[6];
[Code] ....

however programing it like this seems very... time consuming.

my other arrays (normal ones that just hold a set of int's) look like this:

int *player[] = {&yhp,&ymp,&ypatk,&ymatk,&yratk,&ypdef,&ymdef,&yrdef,&ydb,&yacc,&ycr,&yas};

Is there any way to do a string array in this way?

C :: Creating Program That Can Pick Words In A String Or Array

Apr 24, 2013

Creating a C program that can pick words in a string or array and save it in different location, later combine everything in one string or array. It will be using simple programming C code. For example (arrays, pointer) but not interrupts or other string functions.

In a sentence like this:
Size= 70
$--GSV,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,...*hh $--GGA,hhmmss.ss,llll.ll,a,yyyyy.yy,b,x,xx,x.x,x.x,M,x.x,M,x.x,xxxx*hh $--GLC,xxxx,x.x,a,x.x,a,x.x,a.x,x,a,x.x,a,x.x,a*hh $--GSA,a,a,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x.x,x.x,x.x*hh

The program must capture the $--GGA string then extract from this string:

1) hhmmss.ss
2) IIII.II
3) a (if a = to N or S replace N or S with + or - respectively )
4) yyyyy.yy 5) b (if b = to E or W replace E or W with + or - respectively )

Save them in an array and display as well. After all the saving, the program should combine them to one string. That the final output.

I don't understand , how the ++ operator is behaving in this statement. The output produced does not match what's printed in the book. I usually just type all the examples, but with this one I also downloaded the source code from the book's website to make sure the error wasn't due to mistyping.
