C++ :: Calculating Area Of A Triangle Using Heron Formula

Nov 7, 2014

I need to calculate the area of a triangle using heron's formula. I wrote the code below and i need to modify it so that a user is required to keep entering the three side until he/she decides to stop. If the three sides entered make an invalid triangle, the user is required to re-enter the values until valid triangle is formed. Then the area is displayed.

#include <iostream>
#include <cmath>
using namespace std;
int main(){
double a,b,c=0;
double s,A=0;

[Code] .....

the screen output should like this:

Enter three sides of a triangle: 0 1 2 Error!
Re-enter three sides of a triangle: -1 1 2 Error!
Re-enter three sides of a triangle: 3 4 5 => 6

Continue (y/n)? y

Enter three sides of a triangle: 1 1 2 Error!
Re-enter three sides of a triangle: 6 8 10 => 24

Continue (y/n)? n

Done!

Please note that Continue (y/n)? only displayed after a valid triangle is formed. Otherwise, the user needs to re-enter sides until it's valid.

How do you convert a number float in a range of -10.0f to 17.0f to a eqivalent number in the range of 0.0f to 1.0f?The code does not work well. floaty is the float to change.

//change range to 0..1
diamond[x][y] = (floaty - minY) / (maxY - minY);

C++ :: How To Template Float / Double Constants

Nov 19, 2014

I have a templated class that can either use float or double as type.

My question is now: What do I do with constant numbers in the code?

Let's assume I have a multiplication by 0.5:
In the case of float type, I want: 0.5f
In the case of double type, I want: 0.5

One answer would be to check for every constant the type and doing an if/else, but this is very annoying with lots of constants.

The code using these constants infer their type automatically by the assignment, that's why I have to take care of the constants.

sprintf(str, "%.4g", flt );
cout<<str<<endl; //Exponential form even after 6 digits without decimal
return 0;

C/C++ :: Double Comparison For Range Is Not Working Correctly

Mar 17, 2015

I am trying to compare a double to be within various ranges, but the comparison is not working correctly. Rounding precision is not a concern, because if the value will match the boundaries so rarely, and it is rounding up to the higher range is acceptable. Below is the doe at issue:

if (kq == 2) {
if (fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] < 450,000,000.00) ktti[ky-1][0] = 1;
else if ((fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] >= 450,000,000.00) && (fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] < 525,000,000.00)) ktti[ky-1][0] = 2;
else if ((fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] >= 525,000,000.00) && (fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] < 650,000,000.00)) ktti[ky-1][0] = 3;
else if ((fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] >= 650,000,000.00) && (fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] < 750,000,000.00)) ktti[ky-1][0] = 4;
else if ((fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] >= 750,000,000.00) && (fundt[kq-1][ky-1][2-1] < 850,000,000.00)) ktti[ky-1][0] = 5;

[Code] ....

I know that a triple-dimension array looks complex, but I can guarantee that is a double. The literal constants I am using should automatically be doubles. The subscript of [2-1] looks odd, but this is code I was given to maintain, and that is how it is written elsewhere, so I kept it for consistency. The problem I am having is that when I run this code, all the data I input is less than the 450 million value, but the run falls through all the if and if-else conditions, and the else code is what is actually executed, i.e., I always get six as my result.

I am running on a Sun Sparc, and the compiler used is SunStudio 12. I have tried using variables, with the values listed above assigned to each variable, but it does work either. When I use variables, if the input value is negative, the comparison for less than 450 million works, but any positive input values will through to the else and give me six.

C :: Putting Float Numbers Into Double Array

Jan 29, 2014

So I have a double array, where I'm inputting float numbers to certain points in an array. Sometimes, the numbers that are printed out are completely different from what I put in.Here is the part of the code:

Code: .

while( token != NULL ) {
num = atof(token);
test[j][i] = num;
printf( "
%s, i is %d, j is %d
", token,i,j );
printf( "number is %f
value test of i,j is %f

[code]....

Why the float num prints out fine, but when put into an array becomes garbage?I'm taking string values from a csv file and turning them into floats, but no problems seem to crop up there.I reset i when appropriate and increment j when needed, so I don't think my problems are from incorrect array values (though they might be)

C++ :: Float And Double Data Types - Cannot Store Infinite Numbers

Sep 6, 2013

I was working on float and double data types and to see the results i wrote this program:

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
ofstream outputF("output.txt");
double a = 1;
double outcome;

[Code] ....

Well I understand the part it cannot store infinite numbers. but if you take a look at the output for example (since it is too long i just added some of the outputs)

//---------------------
for the value of : 001
1
//---------------------
for the value of : 002
0.5
//---------------------
for the value of : 003
0.3333333333333333148

[Code] ....

if you look carefully at the value "5" and "10" results. it is awkwardly abnormal. which is something i couldnt understand. also it is the same with value "20", "25", "40", "50" and so on.

C# :: Why Can't A Constant Field Be Of Non-built-in Struct Type

Dec 9, 2011

Code:

class T
{
enum E { }
struct S { }
interface I { }
delegate void D();
class C { }
}

[code]....

All of the above are possible except the constant field of a type that is a struct. I can see why the non-string reference types would default to the only literal expression they can represent - null - and if I'm not mistaken the default value of a struct is an instance of the struct with all its fields set to their default value, but why is it that a const struct field is not possible? is there a reason why or is it just the way c# was written? oh and by the way, what's the idea of allowing enum types to have a default constructor?

Visual C++ :: Deployment (install) Project Built Fails To Replace DLLs

Oct 15, 2013

I have a few VC2008 projects whose solutions also includes deployment projects, in which the primary output of several DLLs are included along with the primary apps EXE file. These DLLs are all part of the solution. Now because of the way I do my DLLs, which for lack of better phrase I'll call a true DYNAMIC link (the .LIB file can be discarded), and because I'm careful to ensure full backward compatibility in any new DLL versions, I would like to tell my deployment project to ALWAYS replace existing DLLS with the new versions, or at least offer a choice if it shouldn't be done unconditionally. Unfortunately it never seems to do that!

I'm being careful to create new overall project versions within the deployment project itself, as well as keeping my version resources, attached to each DLL up to date, and always do a full rebuild of everything in the solution (including the DLLs) prior to building the deployment project. But time and again the old DLLs stay un-updated after the install, and the person running it would have no way to know that without examining the target directories and examining file dates and/or versions. A customer shouldn't have to go through all that. I've gotten into the habit of instructing installers to fully un-install old versions before installing a new one, but as you probably know uninstalling from the control panel won't remove shared DLLs.

I was starting to think maybe the latest DLLs weren't being included in the deployment project at all. But if I manually delete those DLLS and do the install, the latest greatest are then always placed.

If I can't find a setting in the deployment project to change this behavior, I'll have to write a separate little console app to force delete (or at least archive) all the relevant DLLs as a pre-installation step. Or maybe supply a BATCH file to do all that, and run the install last. But it seems like a reasonable thing that a setting to make a deployment (MSI) file unconditionally overwrite DLLS, whose version or creation date is newer, ought to be an obvious feature. But if such an option exists, I've missed it completely.
