You place a breakpoint at one of locations within the message loop. But I want the breakpoint to trigger when I click on the application window, for example. But I can't, it went so fast so long as I switch from VS to the application program, the breakpoint is hitted again, then the application is frozen again. I don't know how to setup a conditional breakpoint.

Visual C++ :: Debug Assertion On ActiveX Create

Oct 10, 2013

I have a MFC Com Dll that has a CDialog. In the OnCreate event I create an ActiveX control. The dll is hosted inside an executable of mine. In this scenario everything works fine!

The dll is also called from an external executable and then a Debug Assertion in OCCSITE.cpp occurs when I create the ActiveX control. I suspect that in the executable there is no AfxOleInit. I spend some time with this problem and tried to CoInitialize, OleInitialize, AfxOleInitModule and even AfxOleInit in the dll. But all that does not change a thing. If I understand the mechanics then this is an intended behaviour and should be done in the host exe.

What I observed in the OCCSITE.cpp:

Code:
_AFX_THREAD_STATE* pState = AfxGetThreadState();
if (!pState->m_bNeedTerm && !AfxOleInit())
return hr;

In my executable m_bNeedTerm is 0 and in the external one (where the ActiveX does not work) it is -1. In AfxOleInit this is explained as a special flag to prevent the dll from doing an unnecessary OleInitialize. But as I said even if I call OleInitialize myself I get the Debug Assertion and the ActiveX is not visible.

Is there anything I can do to make the ActiveX control work in the external application? Obviously I cannot Change anything in the application...

Visual C++ :: Debug Occasionally Brings Up Disassembly Rather Than Windows Files?

Jan 15, 2013

On fairly rare occasions, when attempting to debug one of my MFC applications on VS 2010, a compilation error is encountered, and instead of bringing up the customary Windows or MFC file with a arrow pointing to the problem, a disassembly appears with an arrow pointing to one of the assembler instructions.

Since Windows assembly language is hardly my forte, I do not know how to interpret the error. Furthermore, the Output usually indicates one or more 'first chance exceptions' but little more, and the Stack output usually quite sparse and often refers cryptically to some ntdll.dll!7c92a82c().

How can I better define the compile error?

Visual C++ :: Retrieve IP Information On Any Windows

I used to retrieve IP and NIC information by querying windows registry. Now I'm trying to use GetAdapterAddresses() API. Using GetAdapterAddresses() to get IP is not that easy, I need to dig a long deep as I check some examples so far, anyways my question is: Calling this API will return success on all versions of Windows ie: 32bits & 64bits ?

Though Microsoft has not opened any source, where this API is actually retrieving Windows IP information.?. Is it reading Registry or some windows file.

Visual C++ :: Getting Indexes Information From SQL Server?

Jan 6, 2014

Trying to get table indexes information in SQL Server 2012 I identified a strange situation for one scenarion.I have a table that contains two indexes referenced to some fields: Field_1 and Field_3 mapped over int, null columns (the number means the existing field order into the table designed few years ago...).

I am trying to get information about these indexes like this:

Code:
nRetCode = ::SQLStatistics(hstmtAux, NULL, 0, NULL, 0, (TCHAR*)(LPCTSTR)strTempTable, SQL_NTS, SQL_INDEX_ALL, SQL_ENSURE);
if (nRetCode == SQL_SUCCESS || nRetCode == SQL_SUCCESS_WITH_INFO)
{
nRetCode = ::SQLBindCol(hstmtAux, 4, SQL_C_SHORT, &swNonUnique, sizeof(SWORD), &cbNonUnique);
nRetCode = ::SQLBindCol(hstmtAux, 5, SQL_CHAR, szIdxQualif, sizeof(CHAR) * 130, &cbIdxQualif);
nRetCode = ::SQLBindCol(hstmtAux, 6, SQL_C_CHAR, szIdxName, sizeof(CHAR) * 130, &cbIdxName);
nRetCode = ::SQLBindCol(hstmtAux, 7, SQL_C_SHORT, &swType, sizeof(SWORD), &cbType);
nRetCode = ::SQLBindCol(hstmtAux, 8, SQL_C_SHORT, &swSeqInIdx, sizeof(SWORD), &cbSeqInIdx);
nRetCode = ::SQLBindCol(hstmtAux, 9, SQL_C_CHAR, szIdxColName, sizeof(CHAR) * 130, &cbIdxColName);

[code]....

Becasuse SQLExtendedFetch() is deprecated I used SQLFetchScroll() but the behavior is the same from my interest point of view.

Usally, I get the right information about indexes but in one situation I encounte a strange behavior. It's about having a clustered index into a scenario.
When Field_1 is Non-Unique, Non-Clustered and Field_3 is Clusted index I get the right information.

But if the index Field_1 is Clustered and the Field_3 is Non-Unique, Non-Clustered I get no information about Field_1 index (eg. szIdxName and szIdxColName are "" and their length is -1 that means SQL_NULL_DATA). So, I have no Index information. Within while loop, with the next iteration I get correct information about the second index Field_3.

I'm not sure whether the problem is with SQLStatistics, the bindings or SQLFetchScroll (they all always return SQL_SUCCESS). It looks like a problem with the driver when the first index is clustered.

C :: How To Continue Minesweeper Game

Oct 24, 2013

I am just now in my first programming class for learning C language and I am stuck on one of my homework assignments. I am not asking you to write the code for me or anything because I want to learn by doing it myself but all I am asking for is some pointers to where I am messing up. My program is already finished for what she asked for but I am trying to do an extra credit where she wants us to have the user decide how big the gameboard is and how many mines to hide in it. Really I know that I need to use srand() and rand() but I am not sure how to use them to randomly place mines and without placing mines on top of others.

C++ :: Continue Statement In Nested Loop

Feb 9, 2014

I was wondering how I could use a continue statement that continues in a nested loop. For example if I have

for (int i=0;i<amount;i++) {
for (int j=0;j<I[i];j++) {
for (int k=j+1;k<I[i];k++) {
if (P[i][j]+P[i][k]==C[i]) {
//What should be here?
}
}
}
}

If the condition is met then the most outer loop (in i) should continue to the next iteration.

If i simply fill in continue; in before the comment then it only continues the loop in k so that is not what I want.

C :: Y / N Option To Continue - Compiler Does Not Read It As A Loop

Jul 30, 2013

I've been having problems with my loop that asks if the user wishes to continue or not. The required input should either be 'y' or 'Y', or 'n' or 'N'. Anything else should be counted as invalid, and repeat the prompt for input. The first few times I ran my program, the compiler does not read it as a loop. The next few times just won't work properly.

Here is the prompt:
Code:
void question() {
char option;
printf("
Do you want to continue? {Y|N) ");
scanf("%c", &option);

[Code] ......

As it is, it immediately runs the else option, but otherwise runs just fine. I suspect it could be because I have not specified a size for the option variable, but I try doing that, and the prompt relegates everything to the else.

(And also, here's the rest of the code. Basically, it just assigns a value to the letters of the word (a/A = 1, b/B = 2, etc.), adds these values, and determines if a word is prime or not based on the sum.)

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#define size 30
int main() {
char letter, word[size], lower, upper, option;
int i, value, ans = 0, a, choice = 1;

C++ :: How To Read / Edit CSV File And Continue From Last Login

May 5, 2014

I am working on a program that will do several mathematical calculation and will store the data into a csv file.The one below is just a prototype version of this.In my program,I will store my csv file as (current-date).csv using time.

With this in mind,I want my program to first check does (current-date).csv already exists.If not,the program runs normally and output all the data into the csv file.

However if (current-date).csv already exists,I want my program to read and edit that particular csv file,by skipping part1 in my code(name,id N etc.) and start with prompting the user for numbers straight-away.

In other words, if (current-date).csv already exists,the user should continue outputting the numbers from where the user last left before last termination instead of outputting the name,date & etc into the csv file again.

Eg: if no=22, continue inputting values from no=23 till terminating the program again and storing the values correctly into the csv file.

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <locale>
#include <string>
#include <sstream>
#include <time.h>

using namespace std;
// Program to read date N store it as currentdate.csv
