Visual C++ :: Dump Information To Console Or Output Window?
Feb 6, 2014
I used to use OutputDebugString, and not using it now because it only allows to strings to be outputted, are there any methods that I can dump virtually anything to the console?
cout << thing << endl;
But what if I am not start running the program from the command prompt?

I am writing a program for my beginning c++ class. It is supposed to create an invoice in the console window. so far, everything is working perfectly, except for one thing. My invoice comes out looking like this:
696.60 - 27 Adult Meals at $25.80 each.
+ 46.44 - 3 Child Meals at $15.48 each.
--------
743.04 - Total Cost of All Meals (Add the above numbers together)
+ 52.01 - Weekend Surcharge (743.04 x .07)
+143.11 - Tax/Tip ((743.04 + 52.01) x .18)
--------
938.16 - Total Party Cost
- 57.50 - Deposit Received
--------
880.66 - Balance Due
- 32.84 - 3.5% Prompt Payment Discount (938.16 x .035)
--------
847.83 - Balance Due (If Paid Within Ten Days)
The problem is that if I add these numbers on a calculator, I get as result of $847.82, not $847.83. I checked them individually and they are all being rounded properly. If I add them up using the entire decimal value of the calculations, rather than the truncated value, I get $847.83.
So, the question is as follows: In C++, how do I do each calculation, round the answer to 2 decimal places, then use only the rounded number in the next calculation?

I used the Console's CursorLeft and CursorTop properties to specify the exact areas of the screen where I wanted to print information. I ended up with a 'table' full of data.
Then I used the System.Diagnostics.Trace class and added a TextWriterTraceListener and a ConsoleTraceListener object to its Listeners collection.
Then I replaced all the instances of Console.Write with Trace.Write.
The data displayed as expected on the console. But on the text file the info was printed in the same order the info was outputted to the Console. ie: all the characters used to separate rows lumped together, followed by all the characters used to separate columns lumped together, followed by the actual data that was printed between those characters, all lumped together.
I can see why I ended up with this mess. The TextWriter is oblivious of the fact that the Console's cursor position was arbitrarily modified by the application code before and after each character and piece of data was printed to the Console.
Is there a way I can just grab the text that was printed to the console, ignoring the actual order in which the individual characters were printed, and save it as a string or directly print it to a file exactly as-it-is?

I wrote an application so I can manage the products for my e-commerce site. It uses MySQL 64 bit. Problem is some of my stores have in excess of 3 million products. The files that contain the data are all CSV. I parse the lines... format the data... write to table. On most of the stores which contain 10 - 60 thousand products it only takes max 3 min to write it all in. I have been running it on this one store for 6 hours now and it has barely made a dent. I know there are almost 3mil products in this one but it should be going much faster given what the speed was for the 60K stores. Is there a faster approach to handling a massive dump like this? I should also add that there are quite a few indexes. These indexes are there for ordering and fulltext search once the products have been activated on the site. I cannot create the table without the indexes and add them later since there is already preexisting data that is using the indexes.

I am having some issue with clearing cin buffer. The following code does not wait for me to see the output window and till I hit return character.
#include "iostream"
#include "stdio.h"
#include "math.h"
#include "string"
#include "sstream"
using namespace std;
[Code] ....
I tried
cin.flush, cin.ignore(numeric_limits<streamsize>::max(), '
'); cin.clear(); fflush(stdin);.
None of them worked
I am working on Microsoft visual studio express 2013 for windows desktop.

Write a C++ program to output information for three students. The information stored in your program contains student’s first name, middle name, last name, and test score. The following shows the information for the three students, where test score is in the int type.
John Jacob Smith 78
Mary Jane Weems 82
Dave Joe Dale 61
Your program should declare three named string constants for the three students. Each constant contains the student’s first name, middle name, and last name. You may use three int variables to hold values for the three test scores. The first name, middle name, and last name of a student are then extracted using the substr() function shown in class. Your program should also compute the average (in floating-point number format) for the three test scores. The average score computed should be printed to the screen with 2 digits displayed after the decimal point.
The following shows the output from the program. Note that all the output is left-justified with 15 character positions reserved for each.
first name middlename lastname testscore average
John Jacob Smith 78 73.67
Mary Jane Weems 82 73.67
Dave Joe Dale 61 73.67

Have everything working fine as far as input and functions.. I am supposed to output the information as a table. I started to write a void function in order to complete this task. I know how to output the information if i were to have an array for the months, but how to display the months when I am using a switch statement.

continues to prompt the user for the rain fall amounts for the previous year. */

Code:
#include <stdlib.h>#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <curl/curl.h>
int main(int argc, char* argv[]) {
/* Exit status to return */
int exitStatus = 0;
[Code] .....
The output of this program should be:
From To

The first print option [printf("%s", url)] gives the url output as [URL] .... which on being manually pasted in any web-browser gives the correct output but the program fails to give the output.

Whenever I run my program, It should be taking this string of information:
Shampoo 10 8.75 87.50
Pen 3 2.50 7.50
Headphones 5 20.99 104.95
MacAir 1 879.23 879.23
Raspberries 6 4.99 29.94
Oranges 5 2.79 13.95
Apples 3 3.85 11.55
From one file and outputting it to another, the finished product should look like:
Shampoo 10 8.75 87.50
Pen 3 2.50 7.50
Headphones 5 20.99 104.95
MacAir 1 879.23 879.23
cheapest item = Pen
most expensive item = MacAir
total cost = 1079.18
shopper = Mary Kay
Raspberries 6 4.99 29.94
Oranges 5 2.79 13.95
Apples 3 3.85 11.55
cheapest item = Oranges
most expensive item = Raspberries
total cost = 55.44
shopper = Winnie B. The Pooh
When I run my code however, it doesn't get past shampoo and will continue to add shampoo to the total cost infinitely. How can I change the code to produce the proper information?
CODE:
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <float.h>
#include <sstream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
ifstream input_file;
ofstream output_file;

I have 18,000 lines of code that i would like to upgrade to include a log file. I want to replace the cout with a stream or something similar so that i can easily output to the console and to a log file at the same time with minimal change to 18,000 lines of code. I'm nearly there.
I used this post heavily as a reference; [URL] .... however it is highly incomplete and this is above my knowledge so I'm struggling somewhat.
I was able to get the bulk of it working with some guess work and modification to the code from that link.
For some reason i had to comment out "mstream(void);" and "~mstream(void);"
Also how to get :
mstream& operator<< (ostream& (*pfun)(ostream&)) {
pfun(coss);
pfun(cout);
return *this;
}
to work for endl as per the previous link. Not sure if i'm even putting it in the right place. Otherwise the code works fine for streaming to both locations and such. See the code below;
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
class mstream {
[Code] ....

is there a way to change output of console without clearing the screen? so making some kind of animation?
e.g.
I have used
Code:
cout << "Hello";
is there any way I can erase last "lo" and replace it by "p" so I will have "Help" without clearing the screen ? just changing the output like some text file?
I tried using something like this
Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
cout << "abcd";
long pos = cout.tellp();
cout.seekp(pos-2);
cout.write("ef", 2);
cout.flush();
cin.get();
return 0;
}
but it doesnt work, there is still a "abcd"...

I am wrapping up a Linux/C programming assignment that requires several small programs for encrypting and decrypting text. There is a bash grading script which will be used to assess the performance of my programs. The script runs fine on my local machine and all of my tests pass, but when I run everything on my University's server via SSH, the script is not behaving the same. I am fairly certain the error exists somewhere in my C code, because no other students are having this issue. The 4 main programs consist of 2 daemons which wait for clients to connect via sockets, and the two clients. There is a daemon/client pair for handling encryption, and another for handling decryption.
And here is a screenshot of what happens with the same files on the remote server:As you can see, in the 4th and 5th tests (where the program's output should read), it's instead showing "ssIgnore this message". In later tests (not pictured) there is another message that reads "ddServer to client message". This text appears nowhere in my code or the grading script, so it must be server-side.

Alright, so to better myself with network logic I've decided to make a small net game.
I need to input commands to the console as well as output status updates at the same time. I'd prefer to write a gui interface for that, but I'd rather work with WinAPI as little as possible (I mean, look at the way it's designed...).
I'd like to do this with standard operations, limiting dependencies is a must for me.

What does the order of console output from your program tell you about when the static object is initialized?
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
//class
class Firstclass {
private:
Firstclass(); //constructor
~Firstclass(); //destructor
[Code] ....
Doesn't it allocate the class static variable to the heap, thus executing its algorithm then destroying it when the program ends - or. What exactly does it tell me? When the static variable is initialized, it takes place first before any of my other functions?
