C++ :: Taking Data From Files And Output Information To Another File

Apr 2, 2014

Whenever I run my program, It should be taking this string of information:

Shampoo 10 8.75 87.50
Pen 3 2.50 7.50
Headphones 5 20.99 104.95
MacAir 1 879.23 879.23

Raspberries 6 4.99 29.94
Oranges 5 2.79 13.95
Apples 3 3.85 11.55

From one file and outputting it to another, the finished product should look like:

Shampoo 10 8.75 87.50
Pen 3 2.50 7.50
Headphones 5 20.99 104.95
MacAir 1 879.23 879.23

cheapest item = Pen
most expensive item = MacAir
total cost = 1079.18
shopper = Mary Kay

Raspberries 6 4.99 29.94
Oranges 5 2.79 13.95
Apples 3 3.85 11.55

cheapest item = Oranges
most expensive item = Raspberries
total cost = 55.44
shopper = Winnie B. The Pooh

When I run my code however, it doesn't get past shampoo and will continue to add shampoo to the total cost infinitely. How can I change the code to produce the proper information?

CODE:
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <float.h>
#include <sstream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
ifstream input_file;
ofstream output_file;

C++ :: Output Information For Three Students - Calculating Averages

Feb 14, 2015

Write a C++ program to output information for three students. The information stored in your program contains student’s first name, middle name, last name, and test score. The following shows the information for the three students, where test score is in the int type.

John Jacob Smith 78
Mary Jane Weems 82
Dave Joe Dale 61

Your program should declare three named string constants for the three students. Each constant contains the student’s first name, middle name, and last name. You may use three int variables to hold values for the three test scores. The first name, middle name, and last name of a student are then extracted using the substr() function shown in class. Your program should also compute the average (in floating-point number format) for the three test scores. The average score computed should be printed to the screen with 2 digits displayed after the decimal point.

The following shows the output from the program. Note that all the output is left-justified with 15 character positions reserved for each.

first name middlename lastname testscore average
John Jacob Smith 78 73.67
Mary Jane Weems 82 73.67
Dave Joe Dale 61 73.67

C++ :: Debug Error When Taking A String And Casting It To Float With File Stream

May 9, 2014

Debug Error

ProjectsFinal ProjectGrItemDebugGrItem.exe

R6010 - abort() has been called

I was going over this with a friend and it seems as though getline() is not reading anything in and thus throwing the abort error. I'm not sure why this is because I've included the textfile, with the correct name of course, in both the regular file location and the debug folder. I ask for user input and the user then inputs the name of the file they want, I do some required things behind the scenes and display the results for them in a cmd window. I've included pastebin files for both my header and cpp files because it is far to large for one post I shall, however, post the full code in the comments.

Quick Code

The problem occurs on line 159. I'm assuming once this line is fixed, line 163 will have the same problem.

// Read regular price
getline(nameFile, input, '$');
vectorList[count].regPrice = stof(input.c_str());// Casts string to a float
// Read sale price
getline(nameFile, input, '#');
vectorList[count].salePrice = stof(input.c_str());

C++ :: Dynamic Data Structures And Information Input

Feb 17, 2013

I want to have input data stored in a database. All information entered is to be stored under a single block. That way whenever I want to recover that information all I have to do is point to that block. Think of it like this. I want a large square block that can hold certain information. Inside of that large block are a finite amount of smaller blocks in which the user entered information about a single subject. Lets say block 1 has a name, address, and phone number. The second block will have the same TYPE of information, but different values as entered by the user. I.E:

BLOCK 1: Name 1, Address 1, Phone 1
BLOCK 2: Name 2, Address 2, Phone 2
etc.

The large block contains all of the smaller blocks, we will name the large block "Address Book" ... How would I implement that? Of course it would be just a simple console program that would erase all information when the program shut down, but I've been trying to figure out how to do it, but just can't seem to grasp a good notion of how to do it. What would be the best way to do that? Structures? How would I make it dynamic so that I wouldn't have to define every block, so that it would be added on the fly when someone inputs new information.

here's my code

string Fname, Lname, email, item, itemPrice;
int id, itemID;
infile.open("Data.txt");
infile2.open("ItemList.txt");

C++ :: Merging Input And Output Files

May 2, 2014

Write a program that opens two text files (input1.txt and input2.txt) for input and one for output (output.txt). The program should merge the two input files in the output files. While doing the merge, it will read one line from input1.txt and one line from input2.txt and write those in the output file one after other. Then it will read the next line from input1.txt and next line from input2.txt and write them one after other in the output file.

This is my code:

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
ofstream myproject;
myproject.open("input1.txt");

[Code] .....

I need to:

1. how to get the second line in the input1.txt file and so on.
2. After the writing in output.txt, count the number of lines in output.txt.
3. write the number of times term ‘line’ appears in output.txt file.
