Visual C++ :: What Header For Sleep Function
Jan 26, 2014I have been googling for a long time to find the header used with sleep().
View 5 RepliesI have been googling for a long time to find the header used with sleep().
View 5 RepliesI have two problems with the code below:
1. I cannot find a header file to #include that has the sleep function prototype.
2. When I add my own sleep function prototype, I get an unresolved external reference error (for _sleep, not sleep).
What must I #include to get the sleep function prototype? What lib must I include in the linker configuration to resolve the external reference? (I suspect that if I #include the correct header file, the second question might become moot.)
The "man page" at [URL] .... says the header file is <WinBase.h>. But #include'g only <WinBase.h> results in compilation errors.
A response marked "answer" at [URL] ..... says <windows.h> [sic]. #Include'g only <Windows.h> does eliminate the compilation errors.
But apparently that does not bring in the sleep function prototype. Neither does also subsequently #include'g <WinBase.h>. (Which seems to be #include'd by <Windows.h> anyway.)
But even with my own function prototype shown below, I get an unresolved external reference for _sleep. Is that a symptom of my problem: my sleep reference is changed to _sleep? If so, how can avoid that?
According to "man page" (see link above), the external should be resolve in kernel32.lib. And kernel32.lib does appear in the "Additional Dependencies" list under Configuration Properties Linker Input.
Since I am not using C++ features, I tried setting "Compile as C" under Configuration Properties C/C++ Advanced, to no avail.
My code....
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <time.h>
#include <Windows.h>
void sleep(DWORD msec); // added later
int _tmain(int argc, char* argv[])

The question says: Make an "analog clock" that is, a clock with hands that move. You get the time of day from the operating system through a library call. A major part of this exercise is to find the functions that give you the time of day and a way of waiting for a short period of time (e.g., a second for a clock tick) and to learn to use them based on the documentation you found. Hint: clock(), sleep().
OK, I wrote below code. It is in its primary stages and has not been completed yet.
Code:
#include <GUI.h>
#include <time.h>
#include <iostream>
using namespace Graph_lib;
//---------------------------------
class Dynamic_clock : public Window {
[Code] .....
I expect the system in void clock_hands() (line 38) attaches hour1 (line 41) then waits for 1000 ms (using Sleep(1000)) then detaches hour1 and attaches hour2 this time. But it doesn't occur in practice. When the system reaches Sleep(1000); it seems to go into a comma! It doesn't show the hour1 so seeing the movement of clock ticks by the clock's hands will not be possible.

I run the following API to put Windows XP SP3 into sleep (or standby mode) from a worker thread:
Code:
BOOL bForced = TRUE;
SetSuspendState(FALSE, bForced, FALSE);
Then in the main thread, while processing window messages:
Code:
LRESULT WindowProc(UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) {
if(message == WM_POWERBROADCAST) {
if(wParam == PBT_APMSUSPEND) {
AddLogMsg(_T("SUSPEND event received"));
[Code] ....
So when SetSuspendState is called with request for a 'forced' sleep mode, the PBT_APMSUSPEND notification is never broadcast. Only if I set forced parameter to FALSE I receive it.
PBT_APMRESUMEAUTOMATIC is received in either case.
PBT_APMSUSPEND is always received when run on Windows Vista/7.

I'm doing a compiler, and I'm using writing everything in headerfiles.
at the moment I have lexer.h, token.h and for this case I need reservedWords.h
reservedWords.h is made up of enums showing the needed words
in token.h I have a function called reservedWords reservedLookup(string str) which returns a reservedWord (enum)
now in lexer.h I have a function called Token* getNextToken() in which I need to make use of the function reservedLookup found in token.h
note that all of them are classes apart from reservedwords as in
class Lexer
{
public: .....
}
class token
{
public .....
}
how I can call that function?
I tried declaring reservedWords reservedLookup (string str) BUT obviously it's directing me as Lexer::reservedLookup and not as Token::reservedLookup
When I tried using Token::reservedLookup it gave me
E:Universitycompilerslexer.h|65|error: cannot declare member function 'Token::reservedLookup' within 'Lexer'|
N.B I use namespace std, that's why I didnot write std::string str
When including a header file in stdafx.h, should that file still be included in the source file where it is actually used?
If it is included in both places, is the one in the source file ignored?
I have been trying to make a sleep function in C# that will allow the game to be briefly paused when played. I am using Unity 3D.

I tried the following, but then the monitor wakes up and falls back to sleep mode immediately.
Code:
uint SC_MONITORPOWER = 0xF170;
uint WM_SYSCOMMAND = 0x0112;
SendMessage(this.Handle, WM_SYSCOMMAND,
(IntPtr)SC_MONITORPOWER, (IntPtr)(-1));
I need to be able to sound an alarm (a beep) for 10 seconds in C.this beep has to mirror a sleep period, before the code loops back to the beginning. Now I've got the loop sorted and I can make it beep and sleep, however the beep follows 10 seconds after the sleep..Both the beep and the sleep need to happen at the same time..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a college project which is a car racing game using C++ and the old-school graphics library BGI. After I draw the map and placed the objects(Car,obstacles,road's borders etc..)I added Sleep(); function to the function named Obstacles(); but the problem is, I can't move the car with the right&left arrows.a
Another problem,If I added a cleardevice(); command all objects disappears only the obstacles function keeps working. the Code is here:
char c;
do{
c = (char)getch();
if (c == KEY_LEFT) {
x = x - 10, x1 = x1 - 10;
} if (c == KEY_RIGHT) {

I was created a dynamic library (Used win32 App) & compiled with no error.
Then i was created my main application (MFC) & paste the .h,.lib,.dll files from the source path(dll App Path) to destination path(Main App Path). If i used the below command in my app means the project working good.
Code:
#include "Alg.h"
#Progma Command(lib, "VTAlg.lib")
& also paste the VTAlg.dll in my app path.
here Alg.h contains the some methods , In future i will edit the function like below for my client requirement but no function name & Arguments change. The changes made in inside function(Logically changed) only.
My client contains only .exe file + .dll file.
My requirement, So after change the method i will send only .dll file to my client
If i change my lib file name VTAlg2.lib instead of VTAlg1.lib (But Same Function name & Arg type)means how can i edit the code below
Code:
#include "Alg.h"
#Progma Command(lib, "VTAlg.lib")
& How to run my application at client place.
Is it possible to add a MFCToolBar to the header of a MFCPropertySheet because every page which will be dynamically added during runtime will be using the same toolbar and if it IS possible I would much rather do it this way instead of putting the same toolbar on every page. I have enabled the header with height of 48 and have implemented the MFCToolBar code first in the constructor then in OnCreate. It does not generate any errors during compiling or at runtime however the toolbar does not show.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor a while, I have been running a Windows 7 Visual Studio 2012 CPP project fine. However, today, all of a sudden, it has stopped being able to read any header files that are in relative directories. I cannot think what I have done to make this happen.
It seems to be an issue with Visual Studio as a whole, rather than my individual project, because I have created a new simple project and I am having the same problem. So, I have a CPP project at `C:/Projects/TestProject`. Then, I have a header file called `test_header.hpp`, which is located at `C:/Headers`. In `TestProject`'s project settings, I have added the directory `../../Headers` to `Additional Include Directories`. Then, my main functions is as follows:
Code:
#include "test_header.hpp"
int main() {
return 0;
}
Which gives me the error:
Code:
Error1error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'test.hpp': No such file or directoryc:projects estprojectmain.cpp11TestProject
Is there some global Visual Studio setting that is responsible for setting up these relative directories? Just in case the relative directory was not correct, I also tried a load of others, such as `../Headers` and `../../../Headers`, but these gave the same errors.
I've got These 3 files:
// OTI.h
extern void Unpack(void* Packet);
// PackUnpack.cpp
#include "OptiTrackInterface.h"
void Unpack(void* Packet) {
...
}
// OTI.cpp
#include "OptiTrackInterface.h"
Unpack((char*) &indata);
When i try to compile OTI.cpp, I got the error that Unpack is undeclared.
Its really essential for the program I'm trying to write.

typedef struct tagBITMAPINFO {
BITMAPINFOHEADER bmiHeader;
RGBQUAD bmiColors[1];
} BITMAPINFO
The total size of this is 1080.
Now i want to convert this into a unsigned char pointer.
unsigned char * pBMPHeaderData;
I already got the raw image data in another unsigned char buffer.
unsigned char* pRawBMPData;
Now i want to make a complete BMP image by adding the header info and raw data into a new unsigned char pointer. For this i need to convert the BITMAPINFO struct into a unsigned char *

im trying to compile a project that uses Open SSL but i have a problem since compiler complains about this on some headers
The files are empty and only containing this line:
"../../crypto/md5/md5.h"
I understood that those headers redirect to the actual file in a different path from the include folder, must work in other compilers but VS2013 complains about it.
Im planing to work arround it like copying those files directly in the include folder or even take the time to redirect those includes to the actual file one by one but im guessing that there is a simpler way.
