Visual C++ :: Dynamic Icons On CMFC Ribbon StatusBar Pane

May 6, 2013

The goal is to change the status bar (CMFCRibbonStatusBar) icons based on some events. (The old CMFCStatusBar class had the SetPaneIcon() member that easily solves the problem.)

The "improved" CMFCRibbonStatusBarPane has no members to set the icon, other then the constructor. Being a subclass of CMFCRibbonButton, it has SetImageIndex() that sets the icon index in the image list. The MS online support does not mention how and where to set that "list of images". My understanding is that the list belongs to the Button's parent; in this case it is the CMFCRibbonStatusBar, which has no methods to set any image list. How and where am I supposed to set that list of images for the status bar?

Second related question: I have tried to set the pane icon with the CMFCRibbonStatusBarPane() constructor by loading it from an icon resource. The icon appears shortly and then it is replaced by a gray patch. (for tests I also used one of the icons given by the MFC wizard, with the same result)

The code is:

int CMainFrame::OnCreate(LPCREATESTRUCT lpCreateStruct) {
..........
if (!m_wndStatusBar.Create(this)) {
TRACE0("Failed to create status bar
");

[Code] ....

This code was placed within a program created by the MFC wizard that does nothing else. I absolutely do not "touch" the status bar after it is created here in CMainFrame::OnCreate().

Apparently the icon is "erased" after OnCreate() exits. Where, how? I have made HICON icon; a member of my CMainFrame class, with the same result.

Visual C++ :: Statusbar-update While Mouse In CDialogbar?

Feb 11, 2014

I have the following problem:

My mainframe-window in a MDI-app has a CDialogbar.

Every time the mouse moves over a control in this dialogbar the status bar is updated by a text.

The app craps the text from the resource strings that has the same ID than the dialogbar-control, randomly.

I do not want this. How can I avoid this?

Visual C++ :: CMFC ToolBar - Can't Change Title?

May 1, 2014

Visual Studio 2013. C++.

Created a blank, SDI MFC app.

I added a new CMFCToolBar (by hand, didn't use a wizard)

It docks OK. The commands work OK. It renders OK. No problems there.

In the code, attempting to set the window text of this toolbar has no effect. The title bar text is always "Standard". I triple triple triple checked to make sure I don't have any resource ID conflicts. In a small app as this, it was pretty easy to verify this.

The toolbar also does not show in the menu illustrated in the screenshot. (The bottom, undocked toolbar should be titled "My Page Bar" and I think it should show up in the popup menu.)

I know I'm probably missing a simple step somewhere, but I haven't seen it. It looks like its getting mixed up with the Standard Toolbar resource ID somewhere but I could see nothing in the .rc or resource.h files.

Visual C++ :: Shaped Icons On CTabCtrl

May 20, 2013

I have a dialog window with a CTabCtrl. The following code is successful in showing an icon along with the text name on each of 16 tabs. The icons are 16x16 pixel squares, 4-bit, that I made with Visual Studio 2008's resource editor.

The icons to have transparent pixels (the first pixel of the color map), so that I can "shape" them to be circles, etc., instead of squares.

However, the transparency works ONLY IF I use ILC_COLOR8 instead of ILC_COLOR4, and use LR_LOADMAP3DCOLORS. (Neither of these are documented as being related.) If I don't have LR_LOADMAP3DCOLORS, or if I use ILC_COLOR4, the "transparent" parts of the icon are colored white instead.

My code now works....

// Configure the Tab control.
CTabCtrl* ptab = (CTabCtrl*) GetDlgItem( IDC_TAB1 );
static CImageList* pil = NULL;
if ( ! pil ) {
pil = new CImageList;

Visual C++ :: Implementing Dynamic Database Structures?

Mar 21, 2013

We're designing a new software and we want it to be customizable without code. That, for us, mean we can change the software behaviour without re-writing code. All will be developed using C and .NET.

One of our goals is to have what we are calling "dynamic tables". This means that these database tables may have different fields depending on the customization. We got to know it using high-level ERPs like SAP or CRM's system like VTIGER or even SalesForce. Let me give an example:

CUSTOMER TABLE:

FIELDS: ID, NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE.

This would be the standard Customer Table.

Now, a new customer needs to add FINANCE SCORE and RANKING to the database. We them would like to go to our application (not the database itself) and adding these new fields. After that, all of my input forms and reports would start to show and process these new fields.

Visual C++ :: Generating Dynamic Resource File?

Jan 3, 2014

We want to generate dynamic resource file for VC++ where the data will come from database (Oracle).

For an example, When a user log in the system, at that time if User is an English User, then some data in english language needs to be loaded in vc++ resource file. If the user is French then French data will be loaded into the resource file.

Right now all the data are hard-coded in the resource file but we want to load it dynamically from database, based on the login-user language.

How to do this dynamic implementation as I am not able to find any such concept in google.

C++ :: Fill Value Of Dynamic Array Of Dynamic Arrays?

Jan 4, 2013

I'm writing a program in which I have to use a matrix to represent a file in code. because it's a file, the size of the matrix is undefined, and therefore the matrix has to be dynamic. I found out that my compiler doesn't like dynamic multidimensional arrays, so I was thinking of this matrix as a dynamic (monodimensional) array of other dynamic (monodimensional) arrays. My program (and thus this example) uses unsigned chars.

unsigned char variable=something;
unsigned char**matrix=new unsigned char*[lenghtOfMainArray];
for(int rowNumber=0;rowNumber<lenghtOfArray;rowNumber++)

C :: Dynamic Linked Lists

Oct 14, 2013

In our homework assignment it states to, "write a set of dynamic linked lists" and so on. Now, the problem I'm confusing myself is at the storage inside of each node. To my understanding, each node contains the prev and next nodes, but also a pointer to the data, in this case being a string. He has asked us to manage these strings as rows of chars such as

char[0] = c // first node being addressed here
char[1] = a
char[2] = t
char[3] =
char[4] = d // second node starting here
char[5] = o
char[6] = g
char[7] =

I have written my code where each node is holding a string, not separated as shown above... my question is to how you can build your doubly linked list where each node is being address a set of chars.

C :: Dynamic Memory Allocation

Jul 14, 2013

I have declared a global variable as pointer. The program performs certain number of iterations. After every iteration, the size of memory required for the pointer changes and this pointer variable is to be accessed by different functions. Now, here is my doubt:If I allocate the memory for this global variable in a function, will the contents of the memory be lost once I exit that function. In my opinion, it should not be the case as the dynamic memory allocation takes place in "heap" and should not be affected by the call of functions.

C++ :: Multilevel Dynamic Container

Mar 6, 2013

I am trying to come up with a way to make use of a "multilevel dynamic" container. I am parsing a file to grab some pieces of data. Lets say the first field of data I find I push into an array. At the same time lets I wish to create 2 cascaded sublevels. So an element in Modules is a pointer to the Types vector associated with that module and each element in Types is a pointer to a vector of Data. This concept should be similar to memory paging.

/*
Modules Types Data
____ _____ ______
|____|------> |_____| ---------->|______|
|____| |_____| |______|
|____| |_____| |______|
|____|
|____|
|____| _____ ______
|____|------> |_____|----------->|______|
|____| |_____| |______|
*/

Obviously this becomes very hair quickly so it is obvious that I need to dynamically create and destroy vectors (if I do it this way). Should I just create pointers using the new operator?

Here is some of my code if it is even worthwhile to read:

class Parser {
//storage arrays
vector <string> modules;
vector <string> terminal_type;
vector <string> tag_type;
vector <string> data;

[Code] ....

parse this stuff and nicely organize it.

If you take the first one, "max_logvar" is a module so everything between < and > is associated with that module.

symb is unimportant for now.

then "proterm" is a "module type" so then module now needs a module type container but I may have more than one of those.

so then I break it down by "Input" and "Output" where each of those can have the integer values (just in an array where each position will be set) that are in the fields to the right.

C++ ::  Reference To Dynamic Object

Jan 13, 2014

All entities need to be stored in the dynamic memory. I managed to force this by making the constructor private and by adding a static method which dynamically creates an object and returns a pointer. But it is most likely that the user will want to make them dynamically and we still have the following problem.

entity* player = entity::create();
(*player).setPosition(something);
(*player).act();
(*player).draw();

You get the point, having to dereference the pointer before each call becomes painful. So I thought about this... Instead of returning a pointer, I can return a reference. Then the code is much cleaner.

{
entity& test = entity::create();

// do stuff...
test.act();
// more stuff...

test.destroy(); // deletes the dynamic object
}

I put this code between brackets. That's because we must make sure the reference test doesn't exist after destroy is called, because destroy() makes it invalid. This is fully functional and won't cause any problem as long as the user doesn't forget to never call any method on a destroyed entity. But it's evil code. Would you risk it, or is there another way around?
