C :: Manually Save Data In Individual Bits

Mar 18, 2013

I'm a C beginner. I have questions, let say if I have a structure of message containing of Id, Length, and 3 bytes of data, and I want to manually saved in individual bits of data, how can I do that? I confused on how to use typedef struct and union. Below is the sample code:

typedef struct {
uint8_t Id;
uint8_t Length;
uint8_t DataField[3];
}AA;

[Code] .....

By the way, the DataField is declared as above. It's not necessary for a data to be 24 bits. It can be bit 0 - bit 8, it can be bit 10 - bit 15 and so on. So, for each case, I want to ignore the other bits.

C :: Creating Linked List Of Students With Individual Data Read From A File

Aug 27, 2014

In the program I'm writing, I'm creating a linked list of students with individual data read from a file. At the moment, I have written two functions to accomplish this; one that creates a student node and fills it from a line file, and a second that calls on the first to create a linked list. It seems to work fine except for one thing; It seems that EOF is being reached first, but the function continues on anyways? Here is my code so far...

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
struct student
// Declaring student structure globally.

[Code] .....

And here is what the input file would look like...

Thui Bhu, 100, 90, 80, 100, 89, 99, 88
Ariana B. Smith, 90, 90, 100, 100, 99, 100, 95
Emily Gonzales, 100, 90, 100, 70, 78, 78, 80
Jennifer L, 80, 90, 90, 100, 89, 99, 85
Maria Jones, 65, 72, 77, 68, 62, 70, 65
Bill Gates, 60, 54, 38, 62, 65, 60, 50
Escobar Morris, 83, 77, 88, 76, 79, 72, 76
Anne Latner, 80, 80, 85, 95, 90, 95, 98
John Doe, 45, 87, 88, 89, 67, 96, 79

And here is what the output is...

EOF

EOF in create_record

Thui Bhu: 100 90 80 100 89 99 88
Ariana B. Smith: 90 90 100 100 99 100 95
Emily Gonzales: 100 90 100 70 78 78 80
Jennifer L: 80 90 90 100 89 99 85
Maria Jones: 65 72 77 68 62 70 65
Bill Gates: 60 54 38 62 65 60 50
Escobar Morris: 83 77 88 76 79 72 76

C :: Read Data File And Emit Various Bits Of Information

Mar 31, 2014

For my intro to c programming class, our homework requires us to read a data file and emit various bits of information. the data file looks like this

#Domain: the URL
#Alexa: some kind ranking, small numbers are better
#Rank: another sort of ranking, big numbers are better

#Domain Alexa Rank Site Name
#------------ ----- ------- ---------
amazon.com 13 1177136 Amazon.com
google.com 1 4533883 Google
youtube.com 3 3637788 YouTube

[Code] ....

I've started and am able to get the correct number of lines, and the alexa number, but I keep getting some errors and am just unsure where to correct my code. This is what it looks like;

Code:
// Lexi Anderson
//CS 156
#include <stdio.h>
int main() {

[Code] .....

and once compiled, I get errors.

C++ :: Sorting Some Data Based On Values Of A String Of Bits

Apr 1, 2014

I have a problem I am working on where I need to sort some data based on the values of a string of bits. The strings look like this,

010000001110000000

there are 18 bits, 1 means a feature is present, 0 means the feature is absent.

Each of these string has 4 on bits. I need to sort them such that I have the longest possible runs with 3 of the same on bits. It doesn't matter which 3 bits are on, I am just looking to order them in blocks with the longest possible runs. As a second step, the ordered blocks will be sorted by size large>small.

The following data is ordered like I need it to be.

Code:
// block 1, run of 12, keys 1,2,11 are identical (key 12 is also identical)
011000000001100000
011000000001100000
011000000001100000
011000000001100000

[Code] .....

This is the sort order that I am looking for. I need to be able to take a list of the bit strings in any particular order and sort them into the order above. The algorithm would need to recognize that there are 4 on keys and then look for groupings of three common on keys.

This is more of an algorithm question than one about specific implementation in code. I generally assume that most programming problems have been solved one way or another, so I don't know much about analyzing and manipulating strings of bits.

Is there a standard method for this kind of pattern recognition?

!version of keys := 3.3

!GENERAL DATA :=

Ideally it would just skip the keys that aren't wanted and keep moving through the lines. Should there be a for loop for the key (and if so, how does that work with pointers?) or should this method just be scratched...

C/C++ :: How To Deserialize Save Game Data (specifically Skyrim)

I know how to open a file for reading but how to extract the info I need from there. Do all games use a standardized serialization or can the format of this file be anything?

If reading the binary file turns out to be too difficult, would it be possible to hook the game and retrieve info that way? If so, where would you recommend to start learning that stuff?

C# :: How To Manually Control The Temperature Of High Power Leds Using PID Controller

Mar 20, 2015

how to manually control the temperature of High Power Leds using PID controller. I have two GUIs,one reads the temperature from the Led while the second is used to ON/OFF the Leds and at the same time controls the Led brightness using slider control.The GUI that reads the temperature has a PID controller application on it.The output from this controller is what i want to use to increase or decrease the Led brightness which invariable changes the Led temperature.How to go about using this PID controller to control the Led brightness is what i have not been able to grasp well.The slider on the GUI is scaled from 0% to 100%.My thinking is that the output from the controller should be in percentage which will make me to adjust the slider accordingly.My question is that will this type of arrangment produce an output that will efficiently control the Led brightness. how to accomplish that. C :: Changing Cents Into Individual Denominations

I'm sure the thing is a bug ridden mess but I would particularly like to point your attention to the function sortDenomination(). Is what I am trying to do in the loop possible?

The reason why I want to do it this way and not with if statements for each denomination is because I can then easily apply this to the second part of the assignment which sees us split a double into dollars and cents and then process each separately. All I would have to differ for each is change the money_loop variable to include the last two denominations in the array.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
/*Reads cents input from the user.*/
void getCents(int &read_cents) {
