C :: Load Up File That Contains Series Of Int Values Stored In ASCII
Sep 23, 2013
This seems like a fairly straight forward assignment. Load up a file that contains a series of int values stored in ASCII and print out the ASCII characters to the console.
The problem I am having is that I am getting the numerical value of bytes ("40" for 10 numerical values, "200" for 50 values). The numbers are generated randomly by another file, but I can control how many numbers are generated. For example, if I type in:
shell% cat tempfile
the output is as follows:
/8?qE?. Y4?(T???a???%@
but when I try to run it with my program:
shell% ./intcat tempfile
the output displayed is:
40
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <assert.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(int argc, char *argv[]){
//check if arguments match

New file_sorter.c:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include "sort.h"
#include <string.h>
[Code].....
My issue is now a segmentation fault in my sorting algorithm. In my assignment I was suppose to implement quick and insertion sort for the file, and organised strictly by ASCII values. We were allowed to look up generic algorithms for the sorts, but we have to convert them to comparing char arrays.
I haven't started trying to configure quick sort yet, but I'll supply the generic algorithm as well. keep in mind that the first line in the file contains the number of lines in the file. I'll try not to disappear this time!
sort.c :
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stddef.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
[Code]....

I'm trying to get my program to read a series of comma delimited values from a file into a vector. However, I am unsure how to actually go about doing this. I've posted my best guess below but it's really just a stab in the dark and I always receive a compiler error.
Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <vector>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
vector <string> v_input;
int main() {
ofstream fout ("Insert File Path Here.txt");
fout << "4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42";
[Code] ....

I'm trying to write a program to find values for arctan of x by using taylor series. An initial value of x is given by the user and then it should print solutions from arctan(x) to arctan(1) in increments of x+0.1. It prints correctly but gives incorrect values after the initial x. I'm new to c and need some way to 'reset' the functions f1 and f2 for each increment of x (I think...)
Here's the code
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <math.h>
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
/* Define the beginning of the program and each variable. Also opens a text file to be written to */
FILE *f = fopen("arctan.txt", "w");
[Code] ....

Goal: Write a program that compares the values stored in the first array to the user inputted values in the second array.
In order to fix this error: [URL]...
I had to change my array initialization to one with a star in front of it:
char a1[]={"a","d","b","b","c","b","a","b","c","d","a","c","d","b","d","c","c","a","d","b"};
to:
char *a1[]={"a","d","b","b","c","b","a","b","c","d","a","c","d","b","d","c","c","a","d","b"};
I also changed my 2nd array to one with a star in front of it: char *a2[20];
What does this mean exactly? Putting a star in front of an array?
Also, I am now getting an "unhandled exception" when I try to get input for my 2nd array:
cin>>a2[i];

The problem deals with writing a program to geta series of integers from a user and storing those values into an array. Then use a function called selection_sort, when given an array with n elements, the function must sort the array from smallest to largest values.
I have code, and im trying to get it to compile but im getting these implicit declaration errors and conflicting types. Here is my code and the compiler errors.

The assignment is:
1) Write a program that asks the user for a a single character and two XY coordinates. The two X and two Y values should all be integers between 0 and 50. The character should be a printable ASCII character with values between and including ' !' (ascii value 33) and '~' (ascii value 126).
2) Your program should then draw a rectangle made up of the user selected character where the upper left corner is at X1; Y 1 and the lower right corner is at X2; Y2. Be sure to print the appropriate number of blank lines (having spaces in the blank rows is OK) in the beginning and pad each row of your rectangle with X1 leading spaces.
The Output is supposed to be similar to this:
(X1,Y1) = (0,0) , (X2,Y2) = (4,4), the character = ^
^^^^
^^^^
^^^^
^^^^
What I am having trouble understanding is printing between certain ASCII values (ASCII has never been discussed in class).
Another thing I am having trouble with is the main part of the assignment. From what we are currently discussing is loops and the assignment is covering nested loops. My code looks similar to this:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main (void) {
int X1, Y1, X2, Y2;
char cRec;
printf("Enter a character: ");
scanf("%c", &cRec);
[Code] .....
My thinking on the assignment is that you want the X1 coordinate to increase to the value of X2 (same for Y1 and Y2). Is this thinking wrong?

I am writing a C program to access a string into an array from a pointer array in Visual Studio 2010. Program is given below:-
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
void main() {
char data_a[6],data_b[6]="ABcde",*ptr;
ptr=&data_b[0];
data_a[0]=*ptr;
printf("%s",a);
}
I am getting some junk character first and then my actual data on console window. I want to where I am getting wrong and how to resolve it.

My specific request is for retrieving values that are stored to a CompactFlash card. I am able to store values (we call them recipes) to the CompactFlash card as .csv file. I just haven't been able to figure out the code to retrieve this information back to the touchscreen.
Code:
// Create a new folder if it doesn't exist
CreateDirectory("/recipes");
//Create the file if it doesn't exist
CreateFile("/recipes/recipe.csv");
//open the file
hfile = OpenFile("/recipes/recipe.csv", 2);
[Code]....
Now with that said, I would like to retrieve these values from the .csv file.

I need to check my understanding from some questions about strings. How can numeric values stored as Strings be converted to numbers?
a)vector of required numeric data type
b)atoi function in cstdlib library
c)cout statement with required numeric data type
I picked b), I am aware of atoi, atol, and atof as methods to convert, but are there other methods?
What is the purpose of strncat function?
Combines n characters from source string into target string
C++ string provides:
a)convenient way to declare and manage character arrays
b)functions to manipulate strings
c)all of the above
d)none of the above
I picked c)

This is a small program that reads a line from the screen, takes the ASCII values from the entered text, and edits it. Next, the ASCII values are reinterpreted (am i misspelling?) as text, and displayed. However, my final output has (allways?) at least 7 characters, even if you enter only one. I'm also trying to accomplish, that the part of the string which isn't filled, will be printed empty. In spaces.
compiled with -std=c99.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main(){
int maxsize;
printf("How long is your message?

I'm working on a project, and I'm trying to fill in various vectors from a given input file. The input file looks like:
<catalog>
<book id ="bk101">
<author>O'Brien, Tim</author> ....etc
My load vectors function looks like this: void load_vectors(vector<string>&id, vector<string>& author...etc)
I can't assume a limit on the number of books etc listed in this catalog, so I'm using the eof() function. However, I don't know how to write the loop to gather the correct strings and place them in the vectors.
Code: while(in.eof())
{ string text;
int index, index2;
getline(in, text);
int index = text.find("<author>");
int index2 = text.find("</author>");
a = index.lenght();
author.pushback[i] = text.substr(index + a, index2);
}

I have a group assignment were we need to load sokoban levels from text file. We have loaded the file in a vector but how we can parse the file for it to be used during the game.
We read about malloc and know how to access each character from the vector, but how can we select a particular level after the user inputs an the level integer number?
E.g.
Level 6

So I am working on a FUSE filesystem and I currently have the need to load the contents of a text file into an array.
My array initialization looks like: char array[max_entries][PATH_MAX] = {NULL}
The reason I want to pass it by reference is that I want my function to return two values essentially. One a specific char* and the other an array like I initialized. My function proto type looks like:
char* load_meta(char* list[max_entries][PATH_MAX], char* path, int mode);
How I'm trying to call the function:
someChar = load_meta(&array, path_name, 1);
Within the function I try to edit the array by deferenceing it once, like this:
strcpy(*list[i], file_entry); // This seg faults

I have done a test, I have edited with the WordPad in Windows on my Local Webserver a file banana.h which contains a list of float arrays in order to extract one array and create a text file named ObjVerts.txt I have done a lot of search in the Web in order to find a small piece of code that can read the text file and convert it to a float array GLfloat, but I did not find any. I have found a lot of piece of code that read the file and make a NSData but many of the code seem to not work. It seem that the last statement return nothing!
NSURL *myurl = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://localhost/ObjVerts.txt"];
//NSString *mystring = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:myurl];
NSData *mydata = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:myurl];

I am doing an exercise that reads in a text file and loads the data into a struct. My problem is it doesn't read anything from the text file. I think it's the way I'm loading the data. Oh, it does read in the first record that tells the program how many contributor records to create, but nothing after that. Here it is:
Code:
//
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <cstdlib>
const int strsize = 30;
const int SIZE = 60;
struct contributions {
char fullname[strsize]; //name
double donation; //donation
[Code] ....
Here is the record input:
Data file:
4
Suz Stuz
55000
Froco Frock
5000
Yandi Yuck
100500
Dippy Dip
120000
9 records - each struct has two members; full name and donation. First record should be number of contributors ...

I am trying to build a employee management system using C, and I have done alot so far. Everything seems to work fine, but then I thought that I should let the user store the data of their employees permanently, therefore I created a file and then I store the user's given data in the txt file.
Here is the code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<conio.h>
#include<string.h>
[Code].....
But there is some problem, and I don't seem to understand what is the problem in the code, it's just that whenever the user enters any id to search, and presses any key then nothing appears just a blank screen! I wanted to know that how can I check the ID from the text file and then display the details of the employee of that id!

I have a table in my database that has a 3 fields.
RuleID | RuleName | Rule
the ruleID is a randomly generated string of characters, RuleName is the name the user gives to the rule, and the Rule field is about 600 characters long and is just XML text.
I want to read that Rule field from the database and use it inside the function below.
private static List<MenuItem> LoadRules(bool evaluationType)
{
//string path = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(string.Format("/Rules/{0}/{1}/", ip, evaluationType ? "Evaluation" : "Execution"));
[Code]...
This function loads an xml file from a static location and parses out some information to a context menu.
BUt i'm culeless on how to have the function read the xml info found inside my database.
