C++ :: How To Load Contents Of Text File Into Array

May 12, 2013

So I am working on a FUSE filesystem and I currently have the need to load the contents of a text file into an array.

My array initialization looks like: char array[max_entries][PATH_MAX] = {NULL}

The reason I want to pass it by reference is that I want my function to return two values essentially. One a specific char* and the other an array like I initialized. My function proto type looks like:

char* load_meta(char* list[max_entries][PATH_MAX], char* path, int mode);

How I'm trying to call the function:

someChar = load_meta(&array, path_name, 1);

Within the function I try to edit the array by deferenceing it once, like this:

strcpy(*list[i], file_entry); // This seg faults

for(int i=0; i<len; i++) {

C :: Checking Balance Of Brackets In HTML File Using Stack

Mar 24, 2014

I had a quick question about how to check the balance of brackets in an HTML file using a stack (pushing and popping). I understand pushing and popping. I get lost when it comes to the logic of having to actually check what is in the brackets, and making sure those are nested correctly.

So while

<title><b> THIS FILE </b> USES CORRECTLY NESTED TAGS </title>

is correct and

<title> <b> THIS FILE </title> IS </b> NOT NESTED CORRECTLY.

is incorrect;

How do I check for the actual tags inside the brackets, keeping in mind that there are single sided tags as well.

Visual C++ :: Launching Current Version Of IE To View HTML File From Program

Nov 29, 2012

I tried to do this with _spawnl(), but first of all I'm not sure how to properly ask for the path to iexplore.exe, as I'm sure it will change every time MS gets a whim to move it. I know there's a GetWindowsDirectory() call, but that's not where IE resides (its in "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" in XP, Lord know where on win 7 or 8).

Also, even temporarily hard coding the path to make it launch with spawnl(), I can't seem to get my html document to display. I know the path to that is right (since I put it there ).

char * pFile = "someFile.htm";
char * pCmd = "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe";

int res = _spawnl(_P_NOWAIT, pCmd,pCmd, pFile, NULL); // also tried without specifying pCmd 2x
if (res == -1) MessageBox("Can't Open File.");

So my second question would be, how to you PROPERLY pass the file to view as an argument.

C++ :: Load Strings Into Vectors From A File

Apr 17, 2014

I'm working on a project, and I'm trying to fill in various vectors from a given input file. The input file looks like:

<catalog>

My load vectors function looks like this: void load_vectors(vector<string>&id, vector<string>& author...etc)

I can't assume a limit on the number of books etc listed in this catalog, so I'm using the eof() function. However, I don't know how to write the loop to gather the correct strings and place them in the vectors.

Code: while(in.eof())
{ string text;
int index, index2;
getline(in, text);
int index = text.find("<author>");
int index2 = text.find("</author>");
a = index.lenght();
author.pushback[i] = text.substr(index + a, index2);

C :: Load Up File That Contains Series Of Int Values Stored In ASCII

Sep 23, 2013

This seems like a fairly straight forward assignment. Load up a file that contains a series of int values stored in ASCII and print out the ASCII characters to the console.

The problem I am having is that I am getting the numerical value of bytes ("40" for 10 numerical values, "200" for 50 values). The numbers are generated randomly by another file, but I can control how many numbers are generated. For example, if I type in:

shell% cat tempfile

the output is as follows:

/8?qE?. Y4?(T???a???%@

but when I try to run it with my program:

shell% ./intcat tempfile

the output displayed is:

40

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <assert.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>
#include <unistd.h>

Visual C++ :: Can't Read In A Text File To Load A Struc

I am doing an exercise that reads in a text file and loads the data into a struct. My problem is it doesn't read anything from the text file. I think it's the way I'm loading the data. Oh, it does read in the first record that tells the program how many contributor records to create, but nothing after that. Here it is:

Code:
//
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <cstdlib>
const int strsize = 30;
const int SIZE = 60;

struct contributions {
char fullname[strsize]; //name
double donation; //donation

55000
Froco Frock
5000
Yandi Yuck
100500

C :: Printing Contents Of A File - Prints One Extra Character Not Present In The File

Feb 12, 2013

I'm writing a program that stores records into a file and then these records can be printed out. A last name, first name, and score is stored to be exactly 36 characters long (using leading spaces to pad) making it easier to retrieve specific records. For example, three records stored in the file would like like this: (the underscores are simply to illustrate the distance, they are not in the file itself)

_______lastname_______firstname__90__________lname __________fname_100___________last___________first __60

When printed out, the names are formatted as follows:

lastname, firstname: 90
lname, fname: 100
last, first: 60

However, when I print them out this is what I get:

lastname, firstname: 90
lname, fname: 100$
last, first: 60H

For some reason, for any record after the first, an extra character is added to the end. These characters are not in the file, so I was thinking that the array for some reason wasn't being filled completely, (the array is initialized to size 36 and 36 characters are read from the file using fread) so it was printing out a random character assigned to the 36th array position. Except the character never changes, (always a $ for record 2, H for record 3, l for record 4 if i remember) and I've tried reducing the array size or the number of character read and it's the string that gets altered, the random character always remains. I figure the problem must be in the print_records function (appending seems to work no problem). Anyway here is my print records and appending records code.

Code: /*
- Prints a single record stored in the file pointed to by ifp.
*/
void print_record(FILE *ifp, int record) {

[Code]......
