C :: Force Move In Checkers Game

Dec 6, 2013

I am doing a checkers program in C and were not allowed to use standard C99. Things are going relatively well so far. I have 2d array that acts as a matrix for my board and have ways to check if a space is empty and if it is occupied by a specific players chip.

Right now I have a giant messy method that I will split up sooner or later but Im just trying to understand and build the logic. It looks like this:

Code:
void isValidMove(int origin, int dest, int player) {
int rowDiff = abs(origin%8 - dest%8);
int possibleMoveLeftUp = origin - 9;
int possibleMoveLeftDown = origin + 9;
int possibleMoveRightUp = origin - 7;

[Code] ....

So although its not pretty i think the logic is sound. I can tell whether or not a player is attempting to make a move or a jump. I haven't implemented make_move() yet but thats no problems. My biggest deal is that I need to find a way to tell the user he has to jump if its available. I feel like this is a very difficult task for me to grasp and is more about algorithm logic and math then the C language which is what the course is for.

So, how I could loop through all of a specific players chips and see if that player has an available jump. Also if he does then the jump has to be taken and then checked again as if there is another legal jump then it needs to be taken as well until their are no jumps left. Of course there could be 2 routes available, but I think I could deal with that if I just could come up with a reasonable way of checking....

C++ ::  How To Move A Ball Continuously In 2D Scrolling Game

Dec 29, 2013

The situation is , I have a ball which should move on a flat horizontal surface which i have created in a display of 800 x 400 . Right now!I am able to make it move left or right in direction using key inputs at a fixed speed.

But I want to make it move horizontally at a constant velocity without using keys. Like in copter game.

It should be able to move automatically , towards the right side.

Increment x position by speed variable does the trick but When I used it with keys I used to limit the movement like.

ball.x += ball.speed;
if(ball.x > 750)
ball.x = 750; // because my screen width is 800.

[URL] .... < this video will show what I really want to do with the ball

If you saw the game video in the link i gave, the ball kept moving with constant velocity. But it never went out of bound. What is keeping it from not getting out of display screen. Instead! its moving continuously... but stays almost at the center of screen. How?

C/C++ :: Game Of Fifteen - Swap Move Not Showing On Screen

May 26, 2014

I am having problems with my game of fifteen. I have implemented the swap> I know the swap takes place[using GDB] but the swap does not show on the screen even if GDB says it has taken place. I am getting no errors from the move function so I know that something is taking place. I was thinking that the problem may be in the draw function but it looks okay to me. I have looked at this over and over but I don't know why the draw is not printing the move to the screen.

C++ :: Pacman Game - Move Smiley In Code Automatically And Stop Screen Flickering?

Dec 26, 2013

So far I have managed to write the code for a simple game (resembling to "Pacman") :P. Now what I want is to move the smiley in the upper left-hand corner of the map "automatically" when the program runs and also want it to change it's direction to up or down when it touches the wall.

Also the screen is flickering when the program runs (due to re-printing the whole array?). I want to stop this flicker. Somebody suggested to use 'gotoxy' function.

Here's my code :

#include <iostream>
#include <conio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
using namespace std;
void display (char array [10][25] , int row , int column) {

However the client wants to have the comments update on the page where the link is for the editable modeless box. is there a way to post pack to the original page to force the page to refresh the information?

All information is gathered on the page load event.

there is a section that shows all the comments for a certain item

a link to edit the comments that opens up a modeless box

I have tried the

And response redirect but they give me errors of unknown url) i am guessing it has something to do with the dynamic data crap.

C/C++ :: Force Variables To Be Stored In Char Array

Jan 7, 2015

I want to declare a char* array, and then make any future variables declared to be stored in a specific location within the char* array. Is this even possible, and if it is how would I go about doing it (I plan on storing any primitive data type in it (no classes or structs), and they may signed or unsigned). I want to be able to use the variables like any other variable, I just want the variable's address to be within the char* array.

I am trying to make a program that is similar to a virtual machine and an emulator put together, and it can only run one os (which will be hard-coded into to the program). The reason I wanted to do this is because it would be the easiest way to make sure that all variables in memory are in one contiguous block, that way the part that manages memory wouldn't have to store the locations of each variable (which would have been necessary for the virtual memory manager).

An example of what I am wanting to do is

char* ram [256]; // Address 0x00 to 0xff

// Code to make sure that new variables' addresses are in ram[] if necessary

unsigned short a = 5; // Gets stored at address 0x00

unsigned int b = a; // Gets stored at address 0x00+sizeof(a)

C++ :: Game Design Practice For Accessing Container Of Game Objects

Dec 21, 2014

I'm working on my first video game. So far I have a few classes in the game starting with the Game class which includes a list of GameObjects (another class). There are several classes that inherit from GameObjects used to implement things like bullets, explosions, various enemy types, etc.

The game essentially iterates through the list of GameObjects to update/render them. I would like to provide access to the Game's list of GameObjects inside another class (like the Bullet class) so I can put new objects on the list. For example, when a bullet hits, I want to add an explosion to the Game's GameObject list it can be updated/rendered.

How this should be setup? I was considering adding a pointer to the Game or GameObject list to the GameObject class (and methods to access it), but I was wondering if there is a better way to set this up?

C++ :: Move A Character Around 2D Map?

Mar 3, 2013

How can I move a character around a 2D map? After some research and a bunch of work I made a function for movement:

unsigned int gamespeed = 100;
unsigned int stage = 1;
void controls()
{

[Code]....

Maps are stored in a different .cpp file

So this code works, but is complicated, ugly and evil (I have to make a pointer to the first map and change the pointer to the next map every time the user reaches the exit, without the pointer this code is, of course, incompatible). How can I reduce this code to be less evil/ugly or at least smaller?

Also it would be nice if the user could move around with arrows as well as with WASD

Part 2:

Write a graphical application that draws a square and then moves it.

Get the x and y coordinates for the top left corner of the square from the user using the get_int() member function of cwin. Get the length of a side of the square from the user using get_int() as well. Now draw the square to cwin according to the user input.Ask the user how many units to the left they want to move it using get_int() again. Then move the square, clear the screen, and draw it again.

// Part 2 //
/* command output to declare the x,y value and 1 side length of a square through user interaction( Has user input intergers) */
int x_value = cwin.get_int("What is the x_value of the top left of the square?");
int y_value = cwin.get_int("What is the y_value of the top left of the square?");
int side_length = cwin.get_int("Input the length for one side of the square:");

if(sf::Keyboard::isKeyPressed(sf::Keyboard::Q)) {
playerSprite.rotate(-0.08 * dt);
} else if(sf::Keyboard::isKeyPressed(sf::Keyboard::E)) {
playerSprite.rotate(0.08 * dt);

My question is how do I move the character depending on the rotation?

Also, you might see the "if(havePlayersCollided == false) {playerSprite.move(yadiyada)}" . yes i dont need the haveplayerscollided function because it doesnt work the way I want it to. I might make a thread for it in the future, but right now I need to get the rotation movement fixed before I move onto the collision detection between players.
