C/C++ :: Trying To Draw A Grid In A Square For Simple Checkers Game

Oct 7, 2014

I am trying to draw a grid for checkers. I could draw a square at the starting point from origin with the code below(attached the pic below how it looks) however I am not being able to draw a grid when the program runs.

#include "ccc_win.h"
// GameDemo.cpp
// Shows how to place a piece accurately on a grid after a mouse click.
#include "ccc_win.h" // for graphics classes and functions
using namespace std;
int ccc_win_main(void) // main function for graphics program

C :: Force Move In Checkers Game

Dec 6, 2013

I am doing a checkers program in C and were not allowed to use standard C99. Things are going relatively well so far. I have 2d array that acts as a matrix for my board and have ways to check if a space is empty and if it is occupied by a specific players chip.

Right now I have a giant messy method that I will split up sooner or later but Im just trying to understand and build the logic. It looks like this:

Code:
void isValidMove(int origin, int dest, int player) {
int rowDiff = abs(origin%8 - dest%8);
int possibleMoveLeftUp = origin - 9;
int possibleMoveLeftDown = origin + 9;
int possibleMoveRightUp = origin - 7;

[Code] ....

So although its not pretty i think the logic is sound. I can tell whether or not a player is attempting to make a move or a jump. I haven't implemented make_move() yet but thats no problems. My biggest deal is that I need to find a way to tell the user he has to jump if its available. I feel like this is a very difficult task for me to grasp and is more about algorithm logic and math then the C language which is what the course is for.

So, how I could loop through all of a specific players chips and see if that player has an available jump. Also if he does then the jump has to be taken and then checked again as if there is another legal jump then it needs to be taken as well until their are no jumps left. Of course there could be 2 routes available, but I think I could deal with that if I just could come up with a reasonable way of checking....

C :: Draw A Grid Using The Characters?

Aug 20, 2013

I'm trying to create a grid using the following characters: !, @, #, $, &.

It's an 8 x 8 grid, and should contain the characters in no particular order (trying to create a Bejeweled-like game).

I already defined the width and length to be 8, so:

#define WIDTH 8
#define LENGTH 8

Code:

void makegrid(char grid[])
{
int j;
int k;
for ( j = -1; j < LENGTH; j++ )
{
for ( k = -1; k < WIDTH; k++ )
{
/* I don't know what to type here anymore :( */
}

Visual C++ :: Draw Grid Over Bitmap In Scrollview

Jul 5, 2013

I have a CScrollView that displays a bitmap and I'm trying to draw a grid that I can turn off and on by check box and when the mouse is over a section of the grid that square highlights... I do all the drawing in the ondraw function... But when I have many grid squares it becomes slow to scroll and to highlight the square the mouse is over... I'm not sure the best way to go about this and where to place code to speed it up... The bitmap is only loaded once... But in ondraw the grid has to redraw every time scrolled and when mouse moved over a square.. In onmousemove I call invalidate so the square under mouse changes...

C/C++ :: How To Draw A Square Based On User Input

Nov 5, 2014

Okay so I have to draw a square using "c" that draws according to the user input. Also, this has to be a function, and here is the code I have so far:

#include <stdio.h>
void DrawSquare(int length, char symbol);
void DrawSquare(int length, char symbol) {
int row;
int col;

[Code] .....

When I run this program it compiles fine but when the user input is recorded it just draws nothing but makes tons of spaces.

C++ :: Draw Simple Graphs To Have Visualization Of Output Generated

Mar 21, 2014

I am writing sample programs for graph problems like Dijkstra or Bellman-Ford algorithms. In Dijkstra, for instance, when I input my program a set of vertices and edges, ask to find shortest path from Vertex A to Vertex B, my program currently outputs shortest path from A to B. I want to display graph and have a visualization of the output generated. Is there a way to display nodes and connecting lines? What C++ classes would required achieve this?

C++ ::  Looping Simple Menu - Calculate Dimensions Of Floor Plan In Square Feet?

Oct 2, 2013

What I'm trying to accomplish is to ask the user what their floor plan is (in square feet), have them pick what kind of material they want and give them a general price.

Which is working out great so far, but I would also like to add a loop at the end that cycles back if they want to re-do the estimate with a different material selection and if not exit out the program.

I've been trying do while and if/else loops but i can't get them to work right.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
string custName, selection;
int custNumber, floorSize, material, contactSystem;

[Code] ....

That's basically what I've come up with so far minus all the erroneous attempts. Though as is I technically complete the assignment, I would like the extra credit from making the last part loop.

C++ :: Simple ASCII Game - Fractal Terrain

Jan 31, 2013

I've been in the process of making a simple ascii game and worked out to make random terrain that wasn't all that bad (but has some flaws and is not very efficient). I came across midpoint displacement and the diamond square algorithms and was blown away by the results that come from using them. So I decided to try implementing one into my game but I'm having a really hard time coding it out. I have read a whole bunch on them but haven't really found any good tutorials that breaks it down into steps with sample code. I just need it stored in an array I can handle graphics and output.

ex: 5x5 array with all starting corners being 9 in height

98679
87658
76557
88789
98889

^^Something simple like that.

C++ :: Game Design Practice For Accessing Container Of Game Objects

Dec 21, 2014

I'm working on my first video game. So far I have a few classes in the game starting with the Game class which includes a list of GameObjects (another class). There are several classes that inherit from GameObjects used to implement things like bullets, explosions, various enemy types, etc.

The game essentially iterates through the list of GameObjects to update/render them. I would like to provide access to the Game's list of GameObjects inside another class (like the Bullet class) so I can put new objects on the list. For example, when a bullet hits, I want to add an explosion to the Game's GameObject list it can be updated/rendered.

How this should be setup? I was considering adding a pointer to the Game or GameObject list to the GameObject class (and methods to access it), but I was wondering if there is a better way to set this up?

C++ :: Finding Grid Of Mines?

Aug 8, 2014

Code: There is a rectangular grid of numbers. The grid has m rows and n columns. So it has m*n cells in total.The rows are numbered from 1 to m and the columns are numbered from 1 to n. The top most row has number 1, the row next to it has number 2 and so on. Similarly, the left most column has number 1, the column next to it has number 2 and so on. Each cell in the grid has a unique coordinate which is (x, y) where x is the row number and y is the column number of that particular cell.

Each cell in the grid has an integer in {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7 ,8}. Number in cell (x,y) is number of mines in neighboring cells (cells have at least 1 common vertex with cell (x,y))

Your task is to find grid of mines, i.e display an m*n grid of numbers {0, 1} (cell (x, y) is 1 if there is a mine in cell (x, y)).

Input
First line of the input contains two space separated integers, m and n. Next m lines, each line has n numbers in {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7 ,8}.

Output
A grid of numbers {0, 1}
