I have to ask the user if they want to delete any records. The user can enter -1 to finish deleting records. I have to write the remaining records in an output file. So, i have this, but
1) it doesn't let me enter more than 1 id, and 2) it doesn't output anything to my output.txt.

Is there a way to indicate how many records exist in a given file? For example, vectors have the vector.size() command to show the number of given elements. Is there a such command for files and records?
So I'm rewriting an old project of mine, and I'm trying to determine if there's truly any better way to map the data taken from a text file "dictionary" into the correct class fields for further processing. For example:
In each of these, I'd need the "value" (MY_FIRST_NAME, MY_LAST_NAME, etc) from the "keys" (FNAME, LNAME, etc) to be mapped to the proper class fields. Say, for example, I had this:
Class DataProcessing { public string Address; public string FirstName; public string LastName; public int TotalCalls; ... }
I would need DataProcessing.Address to be set to the value in the ADDR key/value pair. The same would be true for each other field. The problem is that based on the text file's source (which isn't under my control, and won't be changed anytime soon), the key/value pairs are not always in the same place...so a second file could have the data as such:
TOTCALLS=47 ADDR=123 SOMEWHERE LN, NOWHERESVILLE, TX 01234 LNAME=DARKPOETCC'S LAST NAME FNAME=DARKPOETCC'S FIRST NAME
Any smarter way to do this than looping through each line that was read in from the file, and determining where it belongs, such as (pseudo code follows):
IF FieldName == "TOTCALLS" THEN //Assign to TotalCalls field ELSEIF FieldName == "ADDR" THEN //Assign to Address field ELSEIF FieldName == (You get the picture...) //Do thing N_Field
how to change a certain part of a text file? I want to +1 to a text file every time the user does a particular input. For example my text file has name << password << count . When the user logs in and choose option 1 the program will +1 to the count.
I have this project for school where I basically need to write a program that will take any text file and convert it into html code.
string line; int lineCount = 0; while (!inFile.eof()) { getline(inFile, line); cout << line << endl; lineCount++; } cout << lineCount - 1 << " lines of text read in this file." << endl;
I have this block of code to print each line of the text file into the terminal window and count the number of lines printed. But I don't know how to make it change a single character or set of characters to something else. For example, if a line of text begins with the number "1", I want to be able to change it to "<h1>".
I have a report that's generated by a piece of software, and (I'm assuming because it was intended for Linux/Unix) when I open to read it in notepad, it has a bunch of funky symbols in it, and incorrect line feed characters instead of returns that windows uses.
I looked at the txt file with a hex editor and can see all the hex codes for the symbols I want deleted. One of the symbols 0A.
How can I do a "find and replace" command but do it with hex codes? These symbols cant be simply placed into my code file because VS does not know how to interpret it.
I'm trying to make a program that reads data from a text document and allows me to modify it. I am stuck with the display() function. I can get the printf statement to display all my array values except the char AD value. When I include flight[i].AD it causes the program to crash. When I run the program to only display the AD variable I get a bunch of weird symbols. I'm not sure where the program is going wrong because it seems to be storing values properly except for the AD variable.
#include <fstream> using namespace std; //named constants const int MAX=100; //maximum flights const int SIZE=20; //maximum characters //struct definition struct FlightType { char name[SIZE];
I have got 4 radio buttons on my form and & i am trying to match the text for these radiobuttons with a record in one of the database tables. Essentially I would like when the submit button is clicked to match if the selected or clicked radiobutton Text with a database record. And if this matches a messagebox to be displayed saying "match" and if not matched the messagebox should show "no match found"
in this case the "Emp_1" is the matching record , when I run my project when other options or radio buttons are clicked it executes the messageBox showing that it matches even if its not a matching record. What I am trying to say is that it does not execute the else {MessageBox.Show("no match found");} when records don't match.
i have this program that i am undertaking.....this project needs to store customer details, edit them and delete them...now i am facing the problem of deriving a code to edit those details...
MY CODE
HTML Code: #include <fstream> #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; int main () { int choice [1]; string name;
I have a tabbed dialog with a couple of Separate dialogs. I created classes of CDialog for each dialog. Im trying to get the text from the edit control from the tabbed dialog and it appears in a message box when I press a button on the main dialog.
Code: myDialog test; test.UpdateData(TRUE); CString bla = test.m_edit1; test.UpdateData(FALSE); MessageBox(bla,bla,MB_OK);
The m_edit is a variable of CString for the edit box
it gives me a error and crashes.
How do I get the text from the other dialogs edit control?
i want to create 100 gmail accounts instantaneously....what i want from you guys is i have written a program that create a text file i want that once i give the program the imput of 1 it should delete the first 3 lines from the file i.e. the first account details coz that is already been created and shift the rest of it 3 lines upwards after that i'll write a javascript that will automatically fill and create the accounts with those names in web browser.....my lil program is here:
This is a small program that reads a line from the screen, takes the ASCII values from the entered text, and edits it. Next, the ASCII values are reinterpreted (am i misspelling?) as text, and displayed. However, my final output has (allways?) at least 7 characters, even if you enter only one. I'm also trying to accomplish, that the part of the string which isn't filled, will be printed empty. In spaces.
compiled with -std=c99.
Code: #include <stdio.h> int main(){ int maxsize; printf("How long is your message?
So, i got a directory full of files. Some files are duplicate and i'd like to delete those duplicate files. The only way to recognize duplicate files is their size. So how would i delete them?
I am writing a piece of code that requires me to display the last 1000 lines from a multiple text files (log files). FYI, I am running on Linux and using g++.
I have a log file from which - if it contains more than 1000 lines, I need to display the last 1000 lines. However, the log file could get rotated. So, in case where the current log file contains less than 1000 lines, I have to go to older log file and display the remaining. For e.g., if log got rotated and new log file contains 20 lines, I have to display the 980 lines from old log file + 20 from current log files.
What is the best way to do this? Even an outline algorithm will work.
I have a program that makes a directory (temporary) and in it some files that are necessary for computation while program is running. Now suppose a user decides to interrupt the program at some stage. what happens is that the program stops but my folder and files remain.
Q: How to override SIGINT command so that before the the execution stops the folder is deleted ?
I want to make a program that opens a text file and checks the usernames listed in the text files to see if the names are registered on a site such as twitter. How easy would this be to make, what things would I need to know?
The program i wrote can run but did not work. I want to delete a line from the textfile "StaffList.txt" but when i cin the name, for example "Ben". After the program ran finished and i open the textfile, the name "Ben" and the whole line is still inside the textfile! I have created the "temp.txt" file before i run the program.

I'm still learning intro to C language. Currently I'm having problem with my code. The task is to ask user to input information about staff and write them into a text file. The problem occur when:
1) output in text/.exe file display random characters.
2) Data obtained from New_Staff unable to pass into Export_Profile.
3) a new output will overwrite the existing information in the text/.exe file
4) the delete function unable to delete correctly after the first time i delete a staff information in text file.
I'm trying to make a simple phonebook app that can show contacts, add, and delete. I'm pretty new to C++ and fstream functions, deleting a line in my bool erase() function?
General Purpose: Delete all "white spaces" in text file, until the read-in char is _not_ a whitespace (mark as start of text file).
Problem: Cannot seem to shift char's over properly. (I think my problem is the inner loop - however other code may lead to this problem - I do not know)
Code:
#include <fstream> #include <iostream> using namespace std;
bool trimWhiteSpace(fstream &file, char * charMemoryBlock) { if (!file.is_open()) {
