Visual C++ :: Resource View Takes Hangs When Trying To Edit Rc File

Mar 15, 2013

Found an online suggestion of using an rc2 file and cut and paste stuff from .rc file to .rc2 file to see which line causes the problem but don't know how to create a blank .rc2 file. Problem started after I ported from VC++ 6 to VS2010.

Visual C++ :: Generating Dynamic Resource File?

Jan 3, 2014

We want to generate dynamic resource file for VC++ where the data will come from database (Oracle).

For an example, When a user log in the system, at that time if User is an English User, then some data in english language needs to be loaded in vc++ resource file. If the user is French then French data will be loaded into the resource file.

Right now all the data are hard-coded in the resource file but we want to load it dynamically from database, based on the login-user language.

How to do this dynamic implementation as I am not able to find any such concept in google.

C :: Read A Line From Screen / Takes ASCII Values From Entered Text And Edit It

May 10, 2013

This is a small program that reads a line from the screen, takes the ASCII values from the entered text, and edits it. Next, the ASCII values are reinterpreted (am i misspelling?) as text, and displayed. However, my final output has (allways?) at least 7 characters, even if you enter only one. I'm also trying to accomplish, that the part of the string which isn't filled, will be printed empty. In spaces.

compiled with -std=c99.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>

Visual C++ :: Launching Current Version Of IE To View HTML File From Program

Nov 29, 2012

I tried to do this with _spawnl(), but first of all I'm not sure how to properly ask for the path to iexplore.exe, as I'm sure it will change every time MS gets a whim to move it. I know there's a GetWindowsDirectory() call, but that's not where IE resides (its in "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" in XP, Lord know where on win 7 or 8).

Also, even temporarily hard coding the path to make it launch with spawnl(), I can't seem to get my html document to display. I know the path to that is right (since I put it there ).

char * pFile = "someFile.htm";
char * pCmd = "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe";

int res = _spawnl(_P_NOWAIT, pCmd,pCmd, pFile, NULL); // also tried without specifying pCmd 2x
if (res == -1) MessageBox("Can't Open File.");

So my second question would be, how to you PROPERLY pass the file to view as an argument.

Visual C++ :: InitiateSystemShutdownEx Hangs System

May 2, 2013

So using InitiateSystemShutdownEx causes a Win32 machine to go log off go to the shutdown screen and just sit there displaying shutting down with the working indicator just spinning. I left the machine sitting there for an hour and it never shut down. This works fine on all the Win7 x64 machines we are using but the one 32 bit Win7 machine has this problem and it occurs no matter what parameters I pass.

Code:
HANDLE hToken;
TOKEN_PRIVILEGES tkp;
// Get a token for this process.
if (!OpenProcessToken(GetCurrentProcess(),
TOKEN_ADJUST_PRIVILEGES | TOKEN_QUERY, &hToken))
return false ;
// Get the LUID for the shutdown privilege.
LookupPrivilegeValue(NULL, SE_SHUTDOWN_NAME,
&tkp.Privileges[0].Luid);

[code]....

This is working fine on Win7 x64 but not on the one Win7 32 system we have and like I said it starts the shutdown process just never finishes.

Visual C++ :: SDI CView Covered With Bitmap Resource?

Feb 10, 2013

I have an SDI / CView app (VS 2010). All works well until I minimize the app using the minimize button or drag it partially off of the screen. In the former instance, any attempt to restore the app results in an appcrash with a tight freeze up of the machine. In the later instance the same happens immediately.

In building the app, I scoured the web for code to accomplish the loading and display of the bitmap. After some experimentation I settled on overriding the OnPaint. Below is the code. Note that m_Map is a CBitmap member and IDB_BITMAP1 is a loaded bitmap resource.

Code:

void CMyDragViewView::OnPaint()
{
// CPaintDC dc(this); // device context for painting
// TODO: Add your message handler code here
// Do not call CView::OnPaint() for painting messages
// http://msgroups.net/microsoft.public.vc.mfc/loading-bitmaps-into-main-window/563285
int x = m_Map.LoadBitmap(IDB_BITMAP1);
TRACE1(" x = %d
", x);
CPaintDC* dc = new CPaintDC(this);

[code]....

I suspect that the problem is OnPaint trying to repaint the bitmap which requires reloading it, but I don't know how to work around this.

Visual C++ :: Resource Editor Failed To Initialize ActiveX

Feb 27, 2014

I'm working on a project which consists of several ocx loaded by one exe. The platform is WinCE. Now I'm on a process to create a new ocx. I do have a copy of those ocx projects in Win32 platform. These Win32 versions were only used to register ocx in local system and then put those on to application dialog by 'Insert ActiveX'.

Now the problem is those Win32 projects are so outdated, and unable to build. Getting too many linking errors to be solved.

I have build the new ocx and link that with exe manually by editing .rc file and all. But still no luck. New ocx is getting registered in WinCE device but failing to start application.

C++ :: Open Text File From Embedded Resource?

Apr 19, 2014

I have the following complete code in c++

Code:
void GetMapData () {
MapPair NewMap;
string TempString;
BOOL SkipReadLine = FALSE;
//------
char buffer[MAX_PATH];
std::fstream File;

[code].....

The problem is that I do not want to have an external MapData.txt, rather I access it through a embedded text resource, which in this case I have no knowledge on doing so.

I have the following snippet which demonstrates to my knowledge on how to access a text resource; however, I do not know hot to modify the code above to implant this, but to still have the same functionality as the original code above.

Code:
HRSRC hRes = FindResource(GetModuleHandle(NULL), MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDR_TEXT1), _T("TEXT"));
DWORD dwSize = SizeofResource(GetModuleHandle(NULL), hRes);
HGLOBAL hGlob = LoadResource(GetModuleHandle(NULL), hRes);
const BYTE* pData = reinterpret_cast<const BYTE*>(::LockResource(hGlob));

note that I am compiling with a MBCS.

C Sharp :: How To Access Raw Image Data In Resource File

Nov 14, 2012

I have a .png file that my console app reads and puts into a structure that is saved as a file. The png is always the same so I thought I could just add it as a resource image to a resource file so it would be included in my program and not as a separate file. When I did that, the png shows up as a "SystemDrawingBitmap". If I examine this resource in a watch I see "Base" and "Static" members. Expanding those properties does not give me anything useful such as a pointer to the raw png data and its length in bytes.

If worse comes to worse, I can always make a hex dump of the png contents and then put the hex code into a CS file using static initialization.

Surely there is some way I can access the raw data internally and read the bytes into a byte array using C#

// .c
m_MyEditField.Create(WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE,CRect(40,40,500,Y+55),this,0x1552);
m_MyEditField.SetWindowText("this is my CEdit field");

As you can see, the edit box doesn't look like the ones in a dialog, which is what I'm trying to accomplish.

Is there possibly some other class I should be using for the edit box?Or another setting for .Create?

Visual C++ :: Use Of CListCtrl For Live Data View?

Jul 29, 2013

I'm working on an app which monitors user selected data sets from various devices, and I'd like to display the data in a CListCtrl. This would be very convenient, but I'm just a little concerned about (1) just how fast can a CListCtrl be populated, and (2) how can i reduce or eliminate screen flicker. To be specific...

1. There will likely be upwards of 100 rows of data, maybe more (probably 5 or 6 columns), and I'm going to have to refresh it all as quickly as possible, perhaps as fast as once per second. I can play games and only refresh a visible rectangle, but how responsive the control would be, having all that data deleted and refreshed continually?

2. You can see why I'd be worried about screen flicker, and I thought I'd likely have to make two identical overlapped controls so I could double buffer as I would with a graphic animation, switching the visibility of one or another control after its updated to give the appearance of sudden complete updates. BUT... I see there is an extended style you can set called "LVS_EX_DOUBLEBUFFER"

Visual C++ :: Insert Common Control Into View Dynamically

Jun 23, 2013

This is what I try to achieve:

1. Using a CScrollView as the View class type.
2. Using Document/View Architecture.
3. Insert multiple Common Controls such as CEdit, CButton, CListCtrl into the View dynamically.
4. All the Common Controls is base on a template created by user. So I do not know the quantity of the Common Controls.

This is the plan on how to do it:

1. In View OnInitialUpdate(), read the template to get all necessary info on the Common Controls to be create.
2. In View OnInitialUpdate(), create all Common Control. Some Common Control may not have WS_VISIBLE as it may not needed at initial stage.
3. In View OnUpdate(), I need to refresh the Common Control properties such as is its text, position or its visibility. This should happen if Document call UpdateAllView().

My Question:
1. Is this a normal & useable plan?
2. Do I miss other functions for any other messages?
3. Still wondering if I need to involve any coding in OnDraw() for this plan.
