Code:
// feof files.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application.
//

#include "stdafx.h"

C++ :: Error 453 - Can't Find DLL Entry Point

Nov 7, 2013

Using VC++ 2010 Express. I am creating a dll to export a simple Multiply function so I can use it in Excel/VBA

These e are the steps I am following :

. Create a Win32 C++ Project and give a name. For example: CallDllFromVBA
. Select the DLL option in the Wizard and click Finish
. In the CPP file (here CallDllFromVBA.cpp), add the following code

#include "stdafx.h"
int _stdcall Multiply(int x, int y) {
return x * y;

[Code] ....

The Build output show everything is ok as follows :

CallDllFromVBA.cpp
CallDllFromVBA.vcxproj -> c:documents and settingsadministrateurmes documentsvisual studio 2010ProjectsCallDllFromVBADebugCallDllFromVBA.dll
========== Build: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========

In VBA, I insert a module and add the following code:

Declare Function Multiply Lib _
"c:documents and settingsadministrateurmes documentsvisual studio 2010ProjectsCallDllFromVBADebugCallDllFromVBA.dll" _
(ByVal x As Long, ByVal y As Long) As Long
Sub test()
MsgBox Multiply(2, 4)
End Sub

When I run the Test sub I get the error: 453 - Can't find dll entry point

I also opened the CallDllFromVBA dll with Dependency walker and I can't find the Multiply export function - In fact, the dependency walker doesn't show any function exports at all for the CallDllFromVBA dll !

C :: DLL Error - Procedure Entry Point Could Not Be Located

Oct 22, 2013

I hope that this isn't an elementary question to you more experienced people, but I am having some trouble with my .DLL file. I haven't ever had a problem with compiling and linking it with my main project before, but it appears now some sort of problem has started. The message that appears is :

I have no qualms with posting my .DLL source, as it is not particularly long or complex. It seems the problem functions are the last two I've added ( load_sound( ) and play_sound( ) ).

Here is what I'm linking it with :

C++ :: Pointers Point To Address In Memory

Sep 30, 2013

Pointers point to an address in memory. What if I used 3 pointers: 2 to mark the first/last nodes, and the third to mark the current node being referenced? I would wrap it in a class (to make the memory management automatic, of course), but is this practical?? maybe some pseudo code will get the juices flowing:

template<class type>
class supercondensed_list{
public:
supercondensed_list();
~supercondensed_list();

[code].....

Any things I should take into consideration? I'm not exactly the most experienced with pointers, and manually managing memory, but I think it's worth trying. If this works, then my programs should, in theory, be 100% memory efficient.

Visual C++ :: Voting Bot - Every 50th Entry Wins?

Oct 22, 2014

I am supposed to write a simple voting program as a semestral project. There are about 30 people in our class and we are going to compete with our voting bots against each other (+ some random traffic bots). The principle is simple - every 50th entry (vote) wins.

We are given the results website, where we can see winners and current vote count. Nothing more. Oh, and everybody has only 50 votes (except traffic bots).

I have already written voting function, function to extract the number of votes from the results website, function to find out server response time and made some voting bots to simulate traffic on the server (voting every 2s, 4s,..., randomly). But now I got stuck with the algorithm which should decide, when to vote.

I guess that most people in my class are going to use something like "if there are more than 45 votes and less than 50 -> vote" approach.

I was thinking about measuring average latency and average traffic for first few rounds but there are going to be many 'outliers' just before the 50th votes and based on my bots, the latency is going to drop rapidly (my 2s bot voted 10s late because the server couldn't handle the load). I just don't see the connection between vote count and server response and how to measure the right voting moment accurately.

Visual C++ :: Throttle Binary File Download Via WinHTTP Gives Unexpected Results

Nov 11, 2014

My Windows service may download a binary update in the background using WinHTTP APIs. I'm using code similar to the one from the bottom of this MSDN page. For ease of access I'll copy if below:

Code:
DWORD dwSize = 0;
DWORD dwDownloaded = 0;
LPSTR pszOutBuffer;
BOOL bResults = FALSE;
HINTERNET hSession = NULL,
hConnect = NULL,
hRequest = NULL;

[Code] ....

The issue I'm experiencing is that while downloading, the code above "hogs" most of the bandwidth available on the client computer. My goal is to make it "throttle" itself on a configurable "bps" level, say at 50 kbps and not use any more bandwidth.

Someone suggested measuring my current download speed (in bps) and depending on the value make the thread "sleep" before calling WinHttpReadData again.

So the formula I'd use to calculate BPS is this:

BPS = (BytesDownloaded * 1000 * 8) / TimePassedInMilliseconds;

Then to convert to Mbps:

Mbps = BPS / (1024 * 1024);

And the waiting/sleep would be done as such:

Code:
DWORD DesiredBitsPerSec = 50 * 1000;//for 50 kbps
if(fBps > DesiredBitsPerSec) {
DWORD dwW = (DWORD)((fBps - DesiredBitsPerSec) * 1000) / DesiredBitsPerSec;
if(dwW > 0)
::Sleep(dwW);//Sleep to throttle the download speed to the one we need
}

So I implemented it into the code above but it didn't work -- the Sleep API would produce very strange delays. So I decided to add a little bit more tracking code to actually be able to see what BPS values I'm getting.

I created a small test project that is attached to this post to illustrate the issue. (It's hard to explain without running an example.)

For a test I began downloading a large binary file (Windows 10 MSI, off Microsoft's server) and at the same time had the Task Manager open on a Performance tab that was showing me the current network throughput. I made a screenshot:

But as you can see, the reading on the test program and the actual network BPS values differ greatly.

Visual C++ :: Convert Floating Point Bilinear Image Resampling Routine?

Feb 19, 2013

In short I'm converting a floating point bilinear image resampling routine into one that only uses fixed point arithmetic. I've gotten rid of nearly all the floats now, in fact all but one and the results at the moment are in distinguishable from the floating point version. It's a maths issue really. Some pseudocode goes like this.

Code:
for( int xx=0; xx<ow; xx++ ) {
int_center = (ccx >> 16);
int temp = xx * 2;
for (j = int_center; j <= int_center + 1; j++)

[Code] ....

Where ccx is and integer error accumulator that gives me a scaled integer. Shifting down buy 16 gives me the relative pixel I need to be working on. The line just after where the inner loop begins is where I have the last remaining float. FILTER_FACTOR is essentially a percentage by which I scale the error accumulator to the correct amount.

For example.

ccx = 98303. Which is a value of 1.5 when shited down by 16 bits. Obviously I can shift it because it will round and I lose the precision. Lets say FILTER_FACTOR is 39321. Which is 60% of 1 (65535) So what I'd like to know is, is it possible to use the FILTER_FACTOR as an integer and do some fancy integer math to scale the result from (ccx - (j<<16)) by the representative amount that is FILTER_FACTOR. In this example 60%. Effectively getting 40% of (ccx - (j<<16)) At the moment FILTER_FACTOR is still a float and therefore 0.6, which of course works just fine.
