C++ :: Unordered Map With Class Data

Aug 27, 2013

I'm trying to make an unordered_map with a key of std::string and a data type of my own class, "Variable". This is my code that I've done:

#include <iostream>
#include <sstream>
#include <string>
#include <unordered_map>
class Variable { // The class that I want to have as data type
public:
Variable(double value) : _value(value) {}

[Code] .....

This code works just fine when I use double instead of "Variable", but the moment I put in the class "Variable" instead it gives my this massive error:

(cut for clarity)main.cpp|25|error: conversion from 'std::_Hashtable<std::basic_string<char>, std::pair<const std::basic_string<char>, Variable>, std::allocator<std::pair<const std::basic_string<char>, Variable> >, std::_Select1st<std::pair<const std::basic_string<char>, Variable> >, std::equal_to<std::basic_string<char> >, std::hash<std::basic_string<char> >, std::__detail::_Mod_range_hashing, std::__detail::_Default_ranged_hash, std::__detail::_Prime_rehash_policy, true, false, true>::_Insert_Return_Type {aka std::pair<std::__detail|

C++ :: Assign Object Into Unordered Map Array?

Jun 17, 2013

typedef tr1::unordered_map <string, pin *> pin_cmp;
pin_cmp _pin_cmp;
_Pins[_num_pins] = new pin (pin_id, _num_pins, s, n, d);
_pin_cmp[_Pins[_num_pins]->get_name ()] = _Pins[_num_pins]; //performance profiling

What actually the code doing?

_pin_cmp[_Pins[_num_pins]->get_name ()] = _Pins[_num_pins]; //performance profiling

I am not familiar with unordered_map which still can use with array[].I am confuse unordered_map just need key and value why will have array[]?

Visual C++ :: Lstbox Counter - Loop Through Unordered List

I am trying to make a basic app that will loop through an unordered list with repeats and count how many times a specific item repeats. Example would be I select a state from the list box and it will tell me how many times it is listed.

This is the code I have up so far, trying to keep it basic. I am missing something, something related to the counter? I think I have some of the better half up but I am not sure...

Code:
Private Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles lstBox.SelectedIndexChanged

Dim wins As String = lstBox.SelectedIndex
Dim foundwins As Boolean = False

C++ :: Fastest Way Of Passing Data To A Class

Apr 25, 2013

I'm currently building a new data structures that will be used in monte carlo generators (and so will be constructed several million times) and I'm wondering what's the best way (computer-speed-wise) to pass the data to the constructor. I am currently doing it using references and passing arrays as pointers like this:

Code:
class particle{
public:
particle(double *ar,int &id):IDup(id){
for (int i=0;i<5;++i)
Pup[i]=ar[i];
}
int IDup;
double Pup[5];
};

I'm assuming that since using references has no need to create a temporary memory slot it's more efficient .....

As for the arrays: is there a way for me to pass them as reference as well? (not using c++11), I'm using arrays instead of vectors as much as I can because I assume that vectors, being more advanced data structures, would take more time to create.

C# :: Get Collection Of Data From Database Through SQL Class?

Apr 26, 2015

In my WPF application i have a SQL class which i am trying to use to store all of my SQL queries so far this is working fine for when i want to return one piece of data like this:

public string GetEnquiry_ContactName(int EnquiryID) {
string ContactName = null;
//Try to do the following if not then show the error message.
try {
//Create the SQL Connection
SqlConnection cn = new SqlConnection(Models.M_GlobalVariables.GetConnection);

[Code] ....

But if i want to return a collection of data like this:

public ObservableCollection<CompanyNames> GetCompanyNames () {
public class CompanyNames {
public string CompanyName { get; set; }
public CompanyNames(string name) {
CompanyName = name;

[Code] ....

It does not work and i get 'Not all code paths return a value' and ''List_CompanyNames' is a 'property' but is used like a 'type''. But if i have it in my ViewModel like this:

//Code for the 'Company Names' dropdown box
public class CompanyNames {
public string CompanyName { get; set; }
public CompanyNames(string name) {
CompanyName = name;

[Code] ....

It works absolutely fine but the whole point of my SQL class is to have all my SQL code in that class instead of some of it in the ViewModel.

C++ :: How To Store And Retrieve Data In Class

Aug 20, 2014

I have a class I use to store column data read from delimited text files.

Code:
class column_data {
// class functions here
public:
// initialize class members
column_data()
: header(""),

[Code] ....

Each column is read into the vector of string. Next the string data is copy converted to the vector of double or the vector of int depending on the data type. There can also be additional transformations of the data (normalization, scaling, etc) and the transformed data is copied to the transformed_double_data vector. I do end up with multiple copies of the data, but I can clear some of the vectors if I don't need all the versions of the data anymore. Each column object goes into a container like a vector of objects or map of objects depending on how I need to access the column data.

There are functions that calculate statistics on the data in the columns and the results are assigned to the object variables like validate_r2. There are separate statistics for each column, so it seems logical to store the results in the column object. This works well for statistics like validate_r2 (pearson's correlation coefficient).

The current issue is that I have other statistics like "pw50" that I need to calculate and store. The statistic is the percent within +/- 50 units and the request for pw50 is passed in from the command line. The issue is that there could be several of these and they can have more or less any value like, pw50, pw75, pw100, etc. Storing data like this doesn't fit into my scheme very well because I can't pre-declare a variable to hold the result for every possible option. I don't know in advance how many, if any, of these there will be. I was thinking of adding two vectors, one of string and one of double,

Code:
class column_data {
public:
// initialize class members
column_data()
: header(""),
type(""),
use(""),
validate_r2(0.0),

[Code] ....

For each of this type of statistic requested, I would push_back a label into the string vector and then put the result into the parallel position in the double vector. This seems like I would work, but there are probably some things that could be done with pointers that might be better. Another option would be a vector of objects where each object had a string value for the label and a double for the result. That would be more bullet proof as far as keeping the label and value together, but I have not ever nested objects in a class like that so I thought I would post. I don't know the syntax for declaring an object of class_b inside the definition of class_a. The need is to provide dynamic storage for an unspecified number of these statistics and a reliable way to retrieve the values using the label.

I use visual studio 2012, the program is an exercise from a c++ book.

C++ :: Class Constructors And Data Member Initialization

Oct 29, 2014

I recently discovered the new - new to me anyway! - feature of modern C++ that allows you to set the initial value of a data member when you declare it:

class CINTWrapper{
private:
int m_iData=0;
};

This even extends to calling member functions that work with initialization I believe:

class CStringWrapper{
private:
wchar_t* Allocate_Array(const int iBufferSize);
wchar_t* m_pString=Allocate_Array(1);
};

At first, this seemed an extremely useful piece of functionality that C++ had been lacking all along. However, the more I thought about it the more it struck me this feature actually undermines one of the principle design elements of the language - that being the Constructor.

As I understand it the primary purpose of the Constructor is specifically to give the programmer a place where it is guaranteed he can always initialize his data members before anything else is done with the class. However, given the new initialization rules this is no longer necessary. So it largely seems to me that Constructors as a whole are no longer necessary either! Copy-Constructors are a special and vital case. Admittedly when I was using them for their intended purpose I hated either the redundancy you had to introduce across multiple Constructors; those with and without arguments and so on, or alternately the fine tuning of helper-functions to do common initialization between these variants. Now however I sort of regret this cast-iron rule has been taken away.

As a last point, I am trying to change the way I think about programming. I am trying to employ more objects than pure C-style ('int' or 'double', etc) data types and especially to move into templates (although absolutely NOT the Hewlett Packard template library!). Given my current understanding of inheritance in particular it seems to me that using pre-initialized data members rather than Constructor-initialization makes object derivation even more complicated, not less so.
