Sep 24, 2014

I am trying to set the width of the data values which the user will input when using the program but I don't know how to get it to show the values when I tryto set the width of the variables in a nice column .

//Programming Assignment 4

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <cmath>

using namespace std;
int main() {
double q1r1, q2r1, q3r1, q4r1;

C :: Calculate Different Measurements For A Cylinder - Width Modifier For End User Input

Sep 12, 2013

I have created a program to calculate different measurements for a cylinder. Anyways, the end user has to input 3 variables.

Enter the lower radius: 6
Enter the upper radius: 5
Enter slant height: 2.236

The numbers are what "End User" would input. But I need to make it look like this when said "End User inputs the numbers.

Enter the lower radius: 6
Enter the upper radius: 5
Enter slant height: 2.236

Here is what I have for it, but I don't know what to put where.

printf("
Enter the lower radius: ");
scanf("%f", &lower_rad);
printf("Enter the upper radius: ");
scanf("%f", &upper_rad);
printf("Enter slant height: ");
scanf("%f", &slant_h);

C++ :: Can't Store Different Values Into Vector By User Input

May 4, 2013

I can`t seem to store multiple values into my vector when a user keys in an input. Lets say a user inputs 1,2 as the first set and later keys in 3,4.

My vector gets overridden by 3 and 4. I'm trying to pass these values into a function to store them into a vector and use them in the function.

Below is my code snippet

int reconstructSecret(int x, int y) {
int getX,getY;
getX=x;

C++ :: Input Length / Width And Height For 3 Boxes - Sum And Average Volume

Dec 6, 2013

How would I make it so that I can have someone input the length, width and height for all 3 boxes and then have it output the sum and average volume? Here's an example of what I would like:

INPUT - Enter Box 1 (Length, Width, Height): 10.1 11.2 3.3
INPUT – Enter Box 2 (Length, Width, Height): 5.5 6.6 7.7
INPUT – Enter Box 3 (Length, Width, Height): 4.0 5.0 8.0
OUTPUT – The sum of the volume is 812.806
OUTPUT – The average volume is 270.935

Here's my original code:

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
double box(double length, double width, double height); // use double data
int main() {
double sum;
sum = box(10.1, 11.2, 3.3) + box(5.5, 6.6, 7.7) + box(4.0, 5.0, 8.0);

C++ :: Reading And Writing Variable Binary Width Data

Mar 8, 2013

How to read and write an arbitrary number of bits from/to a file stream.

For instance, how to repeatedly read 9 bits from a file, then change to 10 bits, then 11 bits, and so on?

Obviously one way is by doing a lot of bit shifting, and masking. But honestly, I'm too dumb to get it right. Then I thought about using std::bitset and std::vector<bool>.

int main (){

int search;
cout << "Enter a number from 1-3" << endl;
cin >> search;
search++;
ifstream myfile ("example.txt");

What I want to do is to just output number 1 (the whole line) if the user enters number 1. However, I get an error on the second condition w/c is the "&& line!= search"

C++ :: Looping User Input For Specific Data Type

Apr 17, 2015

Here's my code so far:

Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int dayNumber = 1;

[Code] ....

The code, when run, prompts the user to input an integer like this:

Code:

Day 1
Andy :>12
Bill :>7
Charlie :>15

Day 2
Andy :>5
Bill :>25
Charlie :>14
.
.
.
etc.

Ok, so the code prompts the user to enter an integer for each of the 3 persons and then increments the "Day" and so on... When the user enters a negative value (-1, -2, etc.), the loop is broken and the program ends. Alright, everything is hunky-dory so far. 2 things which I can't figure out.

1. when the user doesn't enter anything and just hits return, the cursor drops a line and is still awaiting an input but doesn't show the prompt "Andy :>", for example. How can I get it to repeat the last prompt when the user doesn't enter anything? Like:

Code:

Day 1
Andy :>
Andy :>
Andy :>12
Bill :>25
Charlie :>15
.
.
etc.

2. When the user enters a letter or a special character, the program blows up. How can I correct this?

I've tried changing the data type for the variable used for the input, tried using getline, get, etc. With my current beginner knowledge, I'm missing something. So how can I get this to work?

The program should allow only integers to be entered, while allowing a negative number to trigger the loop to break or the program to end, and while re-prompting the last person if the user entered an invalid input.

Remember to put your main program, class header and class source into separate files. This is an easier version of the exercise than the one you have been asked to practice. Only provide code for the methods specified in the class declaration. Note that the displayRectangle() method should output an appropriate ‘box’, its dimensions, area and perimeter to the screen.

I am trying to code a program that takes in user inputted data about percentages and using it to later on calculate a final grade. 4 percents are inputted, for Assignments, Midterm1, Midterm2, and Finals. If the percents dont add up to 1 (i tell the user to enter the decimal value) I set up and if statement to catch it and end the program. Except that if i type in

Assignments = .3
Midterm1 = .3
Midterm2 = .3
Finals = .1

Here's some examples of how it works [URL] ....

C/C++ :: Compare Values Stored In First Array To User Inputted Values In Second Array

Oct 19, 2014

Goal: Write a program that compares the values stored in the first array to the user inputted values in the second array.

In order to fix this error: [URL]...

I had to change my array initialization to one with a star in front of it:

char a1[]={"a","d","b","b","c","b","a","b","c","d","a","c","d","b","d","c","c","a","d","b"};
to:
char *a1[]={"a","d","b","b","c","b","a","b","c","d","a","c","d","b","d","c","c","a","d","b"};

I also changed my 2nd array to one with a star in front of it: char *a2[20];

What does this mean exactly? Putting a star in front of an array?

Also, I am now getting an "unhandled exception" when I try to get input for my 2nd array:

cin>>a2[i];

C++ :: Preventing The User From Feeding (Cin) Unexpected Values

May 2, 2013

I'm just starting c++, doing tutorials. So many tutorials. I've noticed that the tutorials all assume the same thing: That the user will always do exactly as he/she is told when asked for input.

Example: "Please enter your age:"

Now, the example code might be expecting the user to type some numbers, but what if the user feels like typing out the letters of their age?

"I am ninety five thank you very much, sonny"

I could specify to the user that I only want the information in number form, but what if the user is just being a dick?

What if the user types, "none o' yer business."?

So... how to approach "fool-proofing" player input?
