C++ :: Demonstrate Usage Of Each Member Function Using Test Data (width And Height)
Feb 11, 2013
Provide the definitions for the following class declaration and then write a program that demonstrates usage of each member function using the test data of 10 for width and 8 for height. Remember to put your main program, class header and class source into separate files. This is an easier version of the exercise than the one you have been asked to practice. Only provide code for the methods specified in the class declaration. Note that the displayRectangle() method should output an appropriate ‘box’, its dimensions, area and perimeter to the screen.
class Rectangle {
public:
Rectangle(int height, int width);
~Rectangle(void);
[Code] .....

Basically when I type in different widths and heights for the col and rows, the buttons that make up the width get cut off. Something is messed up but I'm not sure what!
InitializeComponent();
int _col = int.Parse(cols);
int _row = int.Parse(rows);
int width = groupBox1.Width;
int height = groupBox1.Height;
int bW = width / _col;
int bH = height / _row;
[Code] ....

The problem says:
Define functions n(), s(), e(), w(), center(), ne(), se(), sw() and nw(). Each takes a Rectangle argument and returns a Point. These functions define connection points on and in the rectangle. For example, nw® is the northwest (top-left corner) of a rectangle called r.
I wrote below code for that:
#include <Simple_window.h>
Point n(const Graph_lib::Rectangle& r);
Point s(const Graph_lib::Rectangle& r);
Point e(const Graph_lib::Rectangle& r);
Point w(const Graph_lib::Rectangle& r);
Point ne(const Graph_lib::Rectangle& r);
Point se(const Graph_lib::Rectangle& r);
[Code]...
As you see, this just mark the top-left corner of the rectangle r. In other functions I need the specifications of that rectangle, for example its height and width. How to use these specs in those functions?

I m trying to load a png image by giving the dimension of my own.
CImage Image;
Image.Load (L"D:ImagesPNG_ImagesImage7.png");
But here what happens is that I m not able to give my own dimensions.My code requires constant changing of dimensions of the image.
I tried using libpng.lib in my code.But I dono the keywords for loading the png image after including the lib.
I m using Visual Studio 2010. I m developing in vc++.
How do I load and change the height and width of a png image?

How would I make it so that I can have someone input the length, width and height for all 3 boxes and then have it output the sum and average volume? Here's an example of what I would like:
INPUT - Enter Box 1 (Length, Width, Height): 10.1 11.2 3.3
INPUT – Enter Box 2 (Length, Width, Height): 5.5 6.6 7.7
INPUT – Enter Box 3 (Length, Width, Height): 4.0 5.0 8.0
OUTPUT – The sum of the volume is 812.806
OUTPUT – The average volume is 270.935
Here's my original code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
double box(double length, double width, double height); // use double data
int main() {
double sum;
sum = box(10.1, 11.2, 3.3) + box(5.5, 6.6, 7.7) + box(4.0, 5.0, 8.0);
[Code] .....

The below code is taken from the open source 7zip project (7z920CPP7zipUIFileManagerBrowseDialog.h)
Code:
class CBrowseDialog: public NWindows::NControl::CModalDialog {
What does the single colon (CBrowseDialog:) mean? Is that Initializer List?
I know the double colon (NWindows::NControl::CModalDialog) is Scope Resolution Operator.
Why is (: public NWindows::NControl::CModalDialog) used with the class declaration?
Similar code is found through out the project along with class declarations.

I have been assigned the following task and I am having difficulty in getting it to compile. The compiler is stopping at line 27 but I don't no what the error is.
The task is as follows:
Write two functions with the following function prototypes:
int my string len(char str[])
void my string cat(char dest[], char src[], int dest size)
Both functions should take zero-terminated strings as input. The first function should return the length of the string to the calling function. The second function should take a source and a destination string and the total size of the array pointed to by dest. It should then concatenated the source string onto the end of the destination string, if and only if the destination string has the capacity to store both strings. If the destination string does not have the capacity it should not alter either, print and error, and return to the calling function. Demonstrate the use both the above functions by using them in a program in which you initialise two character arrays with two strings, print out their length, print out the combined length, and print out the combined string
And this is my code so far:
/* A program to demonstrate string concatenation */
#include <iostream>
#include <string.h>
using namespace std;
int my_string_len(char str[]){ // function to calculate length of a chracter array
int len = 0;
[Code] ....

How to read and write an arbitrary number of bits from/to a file stream.
For instance, how to repeatedly read 9 bits from a file, then change to 10 bits, then 11 bits, and so on?
Obviously one way is by doing a lot of bit shifting, and masking. But honestly, I'm too dumb to get it right. Then I thought about using std::bitset and std::vector<bool>.

Instead of this:
#include <iostream>
struct Object {
int size; // Want to avoid this because size is (almost always) constant
Object (int s): size(s) {} // for every Object subtype.
[Code] ....
I want this:
#include <iostream>
struct Object {
virtual int getSize() const = 0;
};
struct Block: Object {
int getSize() const {return 5;} // always 5, except once in a blue moon it may change
[Code] ....
The Decorator Pattern works (getSize() can then return 6) but it is a poor choice for my program because it will cause more problems (due to many containers holding its old address, among other things. Any way to achieve this without any change of address, and without creating new storage somewhere, either inside the class or outside the class (too much responsibility to follow that stored value for the rest of the program just for this rare change, and creating a data member uses up too much memory for the many, many Block instances)?

For an assignment I have to finish prewritten code which consists of multiple source files and a header file.
Code:
#include "tree.h"
#include <fstream>
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
[Code] .....
I understand that I have to find the height by using _left->height() and _right->height() as long as it is not a null-pointer , each time I do this the values of _left and _right change. That way you can check if it is possible to go further down in the tree. I also have to use a counter to keep track of the number of layers at each side of the root. I don't understand how to implement it.

I know what are pointer's and how to use them but there is one point i am not able to understand. Below is the example code
I understand everything in the below code except 1 thing why i am using pointer to base class object in vector int the main() Function?
Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <sstream>
#include <string>
#include <vector>
using namespace std;
// base class
[Code] ...
Here is the lines of code i want to understand.
Code:
vector<Employee*> employees;
employees.push_back(&emp1);
employees.push_back(&mgr1);
I know if i will not use the pointer base class function "virtual double grossPay" will be called for both base class object and derived class object and when i will use pointer with reference to the object because base class function is virtual it will look for same function in derived class and if available it will execute it.

I get the following error in XCode whenever I try to access the member I created 'randomGen' in a separate class in a different header file. I have made sure to include the header file and have tried to access it through an object.
This is the code I enter when trying to access the method from randomiser.h in main.cpp. It is also an overloaded function with doubles and integers:
RandomG randomiser;
randomiser.randomGen(); // 'Call to member function 'randomGen' is ambiguous'
This is the code inside randomiser.h:
#include <string>
#include <iostream>
using std::string;
using std::cout;
using std::endl;
class RandomG {
[Code] ....
This is the error inside xcode: [URL] ....
I have tried seperating the code for the functions in another class (main.cpp) and then running and it seems to works, so I'm not sure why I can't put everything in the .h file and then access it?
I would like it in a seperate file so it doesn't clutter my main. I am writing a game with SDL so that might be confusing and I would like the window to have a random title and other random properties, so it would be easier to use a function.

I have come across below code to demenostrate the use of semaphores
#include <pthread.h>
#include <semaphore.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#define NITER 1000000
int count = 0;
void * ThreadAdd(void * a)
[Code] ....
Why the question of syncronising threads and mutexes and semaphores come into the picture when we join threads?
Like in the above example we have joined the first thread and then second thread so that main process will pause for the first thread to finish as its joined and then main process resumes and gives control to second thread and pauses till its finished as this thread is also joined.
Then where is question of simultaneous access?
First thread does its job and ends itself.
Second thread does its job and ends itself.
I wonder why there is need to use semaphores or mutexes in this example? I am very new to Multithreading and this question bothers me as to why we have to worry about simeltaneous access when we can join threads and can make control wait till that thread ends?

Modify your code by adding your own tests to see if your functions work right. Include at least 6 separate tests, of your choosing.
For example, test the compare function with the first parameter as a blank string -- then with the 2nd as a blank -- then both. Test compare with the first string shorter than the second -- then the other way around. Test your copy function with long strings.
I am struggling with how to use the compare function with a parameter as a blank string. I tried leaving the first parameter blank but doing ("",text) but I don't think that is the correct way of doing this.
#include <cstring>
#include <iostream>
using std::cin;
using std::cout;
using std::endl;
int myStrLen(const char[]); // return length of null-terminated string stored in char array
[Code] ....

class StudentTestScores{

and also how do we call the display function if it is in a class from the header file onto the main cpp file.

I was looking at some linked list material and was wondering something. Can you initialize a data member inside a struct like in C++? i.e.
Code:
typedef struct node
{
int data;
struct node * next = NULL; // this is the line in question
} LLnode;

I am getting this error invalid use of non static data member.my code looks something like this: i have a main.cpp and 2 class files with respective .h files, say one class file is named human (so i have human.cpp and human.h) and stats (so i have stats.cpp and stats.h) in my stats.h file, i have a double array: double HumanF[10][12] with everything filled in.then in my human.h file i just have a bunch of integers. human.cpp has formulas in it that use numbers from the double array i mentioned. for example
Human::Human() {
constant (this is a double i made in human.h) = (1+Stats::HumanF[0][0]);
i (another double) = pow(constant, ylvl);
(ylvl is also an int I made in my header file)
yhp = i*137;
}
