C :: Error While Using Struct In Code To Read From File
Jan 31, 2014
I am trying to use struct to store variables from a text file and use them in the main program. I have first tried running the program without using struct and declaring the variables within the main program and it runs fine. But after using struct, it gives no compilation error and a segmentation fault as output. Also, if the size of file/variable size is unknown can I declare variables as char string[]??
The code is as below:
Code:
#include<stdio.h>
struct test {
char string1[10000];
[Code].....

I am having a structure called matrix as shown below to represent a matrix your read from a text file.
struct matrix
{
double mat[30][30]; //content of the matrix mat
int row; //number of row in the matrix mat
int col; ////number of col in the matrix mat
};
Declare 3 variables of structure matrix, m1, m2 and m3 in main to be used as describe below.
Task:
1.Write a function void readFile(char *filename, matrix *m) that will read a matrix from a text file and copy to the structure matrix m.

So the premise of my code is to read in a 2d array from a .txt. The array is a game board but the first two lines are what determine the size of the board. After i read it in i want it to find wherever te character "U" is, and then display the array but only showing U and whats around it. Problem is i cant get the array to print the right size and the code for displaying the U is not working either.
ifstream inputFile;
int boardSizeRow;
int boardSizeCol;
inputFile.open("C:UsersMichaelDesktopfileboard2.txt");
inputFile >> boardSizeRow;
inputFile >> boardSizeCol;
inputFile.get();
[Code]...

I have a function in one src file called from code in a different src file.
In ig_cfunc.cpp
Code:
#include "ig_tools.h"
int x2_count = 0.0;
float rel_branch_degree_tmp = 0.0;
string type;
vector<int> is_disp_type;
[Code] ....
I am getting a linker error,
Code:
ig_cfunc.cpp:1609: error: `calc_rel_branch_degree' undeclared (first use this function)
I have deleted all of the objects and recompiled to make sure that everything is in sync. I can't see what the issue is here and I'm not sure what to do next. This code actually worked until I changed the name of the function, so the types are all correct and such. This is the format I use for all external functions ....

I've got some code in C++ that does some basic analysis on price data and I run it from the cmd prompt. One of the functions I had built to read in the data is as follows:
void ReadPricesFromFile(constchar*filename,std::vector<PriceInfo>&prices)
{std::ifstreaminput(filename);
input>>prices;}
How would one merge this type of code into a Qt GUI? Ideally, I'd like to use something like QFileDialog to open up a folder with my data files, select a file, and then read the file that the user selects. Would the main.cpp look something like this?
int main (int argc, char *argv []) {
QApplication prog (argc, argv);
QPushButton *load_button = new QPushbutton ("Load File");
QObject:: connect (load_button, SIGNAL (clicked()), &prog, SLOT ( (ReadPricesfromFile function?);
load_button-> show ();
return prog.exec ();}

I am trying to read data from more than one file at once. The files are different types e.g. one is a text file one is an xml file like so, StudentInformation.txt, CollegeInformation.xml. The files are all stored in one place, in this case on the D drive of a local computer. I am trying to locate any files in the D drive with a file extension of .txt or of .xml (there may be more than two of these files in the future, so I'm trying to allow for that). Then I want to open all of these files, extract the information and output all the information in one display window. I want all the information from these two or more files to be displayed together in the display window.
Here is the code so far. It is throwing up errors.
//Load from txt files
private void btnLoad_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
IEnumerable<string> fileContents = Directory.EnumerateFiles("D:\", "*.*", SearchOption.TopDirectoryOnly)
.Select(x => new FileInfo(x))
.Where(x => x.Extension == ".xml" || x.Extension == ".txt")
.Select(file => ParseFile(file));}
[Code] ....
The error it throws up is:
Error 1 'BookList.Mainwindow.ParseFile(System.IO.FileInfo)': not all code paths return a value

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int encrypt_data(FILE *);
[Code] ....
I am trying encrypt the file "encrypt" when I enter it I get "Error in reading file"
I think its a problem with the fgets() and scanf()...I tried both fgets out and then scanf but I get the same error.
I look in the directory and see that when I enter a file to be encrypted a blank file with a "?" at the end is created in the directory. so I try to encrypt "encrypt" it shows error then creates "encrypt?"
I then tested it by entering a random file name that does not exist
EXAMPLE
Please enter file to be encrypted: fakefilename
Error in reading file.
I look in the directory the non existent file now is listed "fakefilename"

I am currently writing a password generator in Microsoft Visual Studios 2010 Professional. The section I am having a problem with is the practical password. It is suppose to randomly read 3 words from a text file and then display it in the text box. The program will compile and run but when I hit generate I get "True True True" and not three random words. Then this warning shows up:
Warning C4800: 'char *' : forcing value to bool 'true' or 'false' (performance warning)
//Code is from the form1.h file. I can post the rest of the code if need be but I just included my includes and the problematic section
Code:
#pragma once
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <cmath>
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
[Code] ....
Screenshot of the warnings: [URL] .....

My professor wants me to write a program that will read from a dat file, and produce an output on the screen based on the file. I don't understand why I am getting this error. I suspect it has something to do with the number of characters I've told it to read.

#include<iomanip>
#include<fstream>
#include<assert.h>
#include<string>
using namespace std;
using namespace System;

Goal:
Read contents from a file and use as the size of a 2d array.
Problem:
C2087: Line 27 : "a1" : missing subscript
C2133: Line 27 : "a1" : unknown size
Code :
int rows;
int columns;
ifstream fObject("inputdata.dat");
fObject>>rows;
fObject>>columns;
char a1[rows][columns];
I am not sure why this is occurring, or if there is a better way to do it.

I need to take info in the following format (no blank/skipped lines):
last name, first name street address city, state zip code
And dynamically allocate space for it. I need to use structs, and I need to use an array of pointers to structs to point to them. I know I probably have quite a few problems with my code, but so far, I am able to store and print back the data without issue. In the following code, I only make the loop run 3 times just so I can test it with manual input into the console, but eventually the max will be 50, or until end of input (will be doing IO redirection with a txt file).
Like I said, I can store and print the data fine, but am getting a segmentation fault when trying to sort the info.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
struct addressBook{
char name [50];
char streetAddress [50];
[Code] ....

I have trouble reading the last element in a struct.I do get the correct value for the first two elements. In my example that is:
a = 11 and c = H
however I get:
b = 0
but I am expecting b=2
I got two files to handle this.The first one is writing data to memory -
Code:
#include <sys/shm.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
}
[code]....
why I cannot get correct value for the third element in my struct?In the second file where I'm reading from memory I allocate some space. Is this incorrect in some way? I'm running this on a Linux machine.

Well I tried to assign a new char value from a struct to another char variable but I got the "Cannot convert 'int' to 'char'" error when compiling. I've tried several alternations but I still can't get away with this error.
Here's a section of the code:
javascript:tx('code')
for(int i = 0 ; i < 10 ; i++){
pts[i].dist = sqrt((pts[i].x*pts[i].x)+(pts[i].y*pts[i].y));
}

Okay so I'm writing a simple program - so far with just 1 header and 1 .cpp file to go with it. I'm getting strange errors saying that my struct hasn't been recognised even though I declare it in the header. The code involved is --
Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<iostream>
#include<sstream>
#include"bots.h"
//#include"prisonersDilemna.h"
//write program to battle multiple bots with a random choice generator
//and after all iterations post who comes out on top.
[Code] ....
||=== Build finished: 6 errors, 0 warnings ===|
How should the syntax be? Why does my program not recognise bot as an object type? Why can I not have a void method?

Am I doing this correctly? My assignment is pretty much to answer certain codes manually.
int i = 0;
while (i < 7 )
{
cout << 2 * i;
++i;
}
Does this code read as
2 * 0 = 0
2 * 1 = 2
2 * 3 = 6
2 * 4 = 8
2 * 5 = 10
2 * 6 = 12
How about the ++i part?
