C++ :: Defining Struct In Code Using Array Class

Mar 16, 2013

Is it any different when using a class in my code. My previous code i define my struct like this

Code: #include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>

struct{

[Code] .....

or do i still define it the same way at the top of my code.

C++ :: Defining Operator In Abstract Class

Jun 22, 2012

I have an abstract class called Mbase and from it derived two classes: Sparse and Dense. Now I have an array in which its elements can be either Sparse or Dense. So, I delcared the array to have pointers to Mbase class. For example:

PHP Code:
Mbase** A;
Sparse* A1 = new Sparse;
Dense* A2 = new Dense;
A[1] = dynamic_cast<Mbase*>(A1);
A[2] = dynamic_cast<Mbase*>(A2);

Now, I have operator + defined in Sparse and Dense. but when I do

PHP Code:

A[1]+A[2]

I get that operator + is not defined for Mbase class. So, I tried to define it in the Mbase class

PHP Code:

class Mbase{
public:
void put()=0;
double get()=0;
Mbase operator +(Mbase A);

However, the last code does not compile complaining that it cannot declare a class of type abstract in Mbase operator +(Mbase A). I think this is because I am returning Mbase instance.

C++ :: Class Defining And Storing Integer Arrays

Apr 23, 2013

I am currently stuck on what I should do next in a program I am working on. These are my instructions:

Design, implement, and test a class for storing integer arrays "safely". The array should be able to hold any number of integers up to 100.

In the class header file "SafeArray.h" students must define the class and specify the constructor/destructor functions, the public methods and private variables. In the class implementation file "SafeArray.cpp" students must implement the following operations:

constructor - to initialize the object.
copy constructor - to copy an object.
destructor - to delete the object.
set - allow the user to set a value of the array at a particular location.
get - allow the user to get a value of the array at a particular location.
print - print out the array.
add - add the elements of one array to another.
subtract - subtract the elements of one array from another.

The output of my program is suppose to look like this:

Set q1: 2, 3, 4
Print q1: 2, 3, 4

Set q2: 1, 4, -2
Print q2: 1, 4, -2

Add q2 to q1

Print q1: 3, 7, 2
Get q1 at 1: 7

Here is the code I have so far.

*main.cpp*

#include <iostream>
#include "SafeArray.h"
using namespace std;
int main() {

// Declare a SafeArray object
Safe obj;

[Code] ....

C++ :: Struct Inheriting From A Class Or A Class Inherit From A Struct?

C :: Defining Array In One Function And Using It In The Next?

Nov 15, 2013

I'm trying to define a 7x5 array in main and then use it in a different function that will fill that array with random floats between 0.0 and 1.0 and then use main to print the final, filled array.

Here is what I have so far:

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
main () {
float array [7][5];
printf ("%f", array);

[Code] ....

I keep getting the following error message:

testinghw10.c: In function 'fillArray':
testinghw10.c:17: error: subscripted value is neither array nor pointer

I'm not sure what the problem is? Am I calling "array" variable incorrectly or did I initialize it wrong? Or something else entirely?

I have first tried running the program without using struct and declaring the variables within the main program and it runs fine. But after using struct, it gives no compilation error and a segmentation fault as output. Also, if the size of file/variable size is unknown can I declare variables as char string[]??

The code is as below:

C :: Storing Address Info Into Struct / Then Sorting It By Zip Code - Getting Segmentation Fault

May 10, 2014

I need to take info in the following format (no blank/skipped lines):

last name, first name street address city, state zip code

And dynamically allocate space for it. I need to use structs, and I need to use an array of pointers to structs to point to them. I know I probably have quite a few problems with my code, but so far, I am able to store and print back the data without issue. In the following code, I only make the loop run 3 times just so I can test it with manual input into the console, but eventually the max will be 50, or until end of input (will be doing IO redirection with a txt file).

Like I said, I can store and print the data fine, but am getting a segmentation fault when trying to sort the info.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
struct addressBook{
char name [50];
char streetAddress [50];

C++ :: Reducing Code Duplication From Common Code Calling Common Class

Apr 13, 2014

I have a class 'A' which is almost perfect for my needs. Class 'B' uses class 'A' I've now designed Class 'C' and Class 'D' and noticed that there is a good chunk of code in class 'B', 'C' and 'D' for using Class 'A' is duplicated. I've separated out this code in specific, standalone functions in each of the classes. Now I'm wondering where this code should go. At the moment, the functions are duplicated in the three calling classes (B, C and D). Placing the functions into class 'A' would break the single responsibility principle. Inheritance to add functionality would likely break both SRP and LSP. The one that seems that it may work is composition.

However, Is designing a complete class just for a few functions over kill?

Would it be valid for classes 'B', 'C' and 'D' to access both the new class 'E' (which would depend on A) and the old class 'A' (which would have to be the same instance as the instance in the new class 'E'), or should the new class 'E' provide sufficient functionality so that Classes B, C and D don't need to access Class A directly? It would seem that its then an incomplete interface of the original object with additional functionality (ie, incompatible) Or should I do it a completely different way?

I've been working on a path-tracer for some time, and all along I've used structs instead of classes for vectors and matrices. Today I changed all of them to classes instead, changing none of the actual function bodies themselves, and the results were miserable to say the least.

Here's a render form before the change: [URL] ....

And here's the same render after: [URL] ....

Why this is happening, considering that none of the actual function-bodies have been changed, except for what little is needed to make the change from class to struct.

C++ :: Struct Constructor And Abstract Class

Feb 14, 2013

I am making a snake game just to give some context.

//LevelObject.hpp
class LevelObject {
public:
virtual void Update() = 0;
virtual void Draw(Canvas& canvas) = 0;
protected:
Vector3 location_;
[Code] ....

The problem I have is with the Size constructor and the abstract class LevelObject which size is a member of.

The compiler error I get is:

C:Program Files (x86)ProgrammingProjectsUniversityprg_interactivesnakey_takeysrc..inc..incPlayer.hpp|17|warning: non-static data member initializers only available with -std=c++11 or -std=gnu++11 [enabled by default]|

[Code] .....

However I do invoke the copy constructor when I pass a variable of type size to the constructor in this line:

size_ = Size(s);

But the problem is that its complaining that the abstract class LevelObject doesn't invoke the constructor, which it shouldn't.

C/C++ :: Declaring Constant Struct As A Member Of Class

Oct 2, 2014

I would like to have a unmodifiable standard of WAVEFORMATEX defined as a member of a class of mine. Something like:

class InputTest {
public:
const WAVEFORMATEX StandardWaveFormat;
public:
void TakeInput(WAVEFORMATEX pFormat);
};

Then in my cpp file to hard-code the values:

WAVEFORMATEX InputTest::StandardWaveFormat {
//Instantiate WaveFormat -- PCM standards
StandardWaveFormat.wFormatTag = WAVE_FORMAT_PCM;
StandardWaveFormat.cbSize = 0; //extra information sent over stream. Usually ignored in PCM format.

[Code] ....

I get the following errors starting with the header file:

Error1error C2146: syntax error : missing ';' before identifier 'StandardWaveFormat'
Error2error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int

both associated with the "const WAVEFORMATEX StandardWaveFormat; " line.

Here's a link to the WAVEFORMATEX struct: [URL] .....

Then the cpp source code is probably way off. Let me know if you'd like to see the errors associated with that.

C++ :: Struct As Variable - Zero (init) Data In Class Constructor

Feb 8, 2013

at my work we use a static analysis tool and it is pointing out some uninitialized variables. One of which is a class member variable which is a C struct. Now, that variable is already declared in the header file for the class.

Currently in the class constructor I am doing:

Code:
memset( &thestruct, 0, sizeof( thestruct ) );

Is there a C++ way to do this? I Googled this but all I really found was:

Code:
StructDef thestruct = {};

Which doesn't really apply here.

C++ ::  Can Use Class Constructor To Run Code In CPP By Itself?

Jan 13, 2015

I recently designed a struct like this

// MyMap.h
typedef std::map<std::string, std::function<void ()>> MyMap;
extern MyMap g_mymap;
// MyMap.cpp
My Map g_mymap;

[Code] ....

It looks useful to implement strategy pattern because it makes a fully separate code block. So I can add a function to the map simply by compiling a source file. It's very simple. I don't need to edit another file.

But when I use it for my existing project, It makes some linking and runtime errors.(vs 2012). I can't recognize exactly why because it is a huge project. Anyway, I have a question that - Is this a safe use of class constructor?

I know that there is no fixed order of running, but in this case I think it doesn't matter. because they are independent. But it is not a common pattern, so I can't decide to use it.

C++ :: Declare A Struct / Class In A File For Local Use But With Internal Linkage?

Mar 15, 2013

I've been wondering about something for a while:

Is it possible to declare a struct/class, in a cpp file, designed for local use, but with internal linkage?

The usecase is that every once in a while, I want to wrap "startXXX+endXXX" function pairs in a simple RAII struct. I just declare the struct in my cpp and use it once.

However, if I do this, (AFAIK), the compiler will generate an entry in the link table, which means I could potentially have link conflicts if I declare the same struct twice in two different cpp files.

Unless I'm mistaken, since the struct is declared in the same cpp that it is used, I wouldn't need external linkage. Is there a way to avoid it?
