C++ :: State The Values Of Each Int Variables After Calculation Is Performed
May 2, 2013
Question: State the values of each of these int variables after the calculation is performed. Assumed that, when each statement begins executing, all variables have the integer value 5.
a) product *= x++;
b) quotient /= ++x;
What is the answer for a and b?

I am trying to initialize this chunk of code without it starting at the main menu in my state program:
boost::asio::io_service io_service;
tcp::resolver resolver(io_service);
tcp::resolver::query query(argv[1], argv[2]);
tcp::resolver::iterator iterator = resolver.resolve(query);
chat_client c(io_service, iterator);
boost::thread t(boost::bind(&boost::asio::io_service::run, &io_service));
char line[chat_message::max_body_length + 1];
This code came from a example at the boost example list: URL.....I want the networking to start when the multiplayer state initializes. This is how my program basically looks like:
//Main.cpp
main() {
if (!quit) {
while( handleing_events ) {
CurrentState->handleEvents();
[code].....
I tried to put the stuff in extern at states.h, and initialize it at Multiplayer(), but in handleEvents & ~Multiplayer, it says "c" is not defined...

I have a doubly linked list, which reads in a set of coordinates x and y.
I need to pass these coordinates into a method called calculateImportance and execute Pythagoras on them. With this in mind I need to be able to access the pointers current, next and prev.
The issue I am having, is that I am unable to pass the pointers through to the method?
This is the list.h
#include <iostream>
class List {
private:
typedef struct node {
int xCoord;
int yCoord;
float importanceFactor;

I have a text file in the form
5502 5202.3
1523 2536.1
1254 1256.2
17846 8956.2 and so on
left one is time and right one is pressure, I need to show the time value as it is but i need to use the pressure value to calculate air speed. I don't know how to use the strings to pick up the list properly. I did the calculation formula for the air speed but i can't pick the pressure value up from the text file. here's what i did:

Write a user-friendly C++ program that allows a user to select repeatedly an operation to be performed from a displayed menu of actions. The menu includes the following items:
1. Simple Statistics
2. Vector Addition
3. Dot Product
4. Exit
The menu actions are described by the following points:
Simple Statistics: This action includes finding the average, and standard deviation of a list of data items. The option should allow the user to specify the name of a file from which the data are read into an array. All the results of this option are displayed on the screen.
Vector Addition: This action allows the user to enter the name of a file from which two vectors, V1 and V2, of equal size N are read. Accordingly, the two vectors are added, and displayed along with the resultant vector on the screen. Your program should check that the two added vectors are of the same size. Otherwise, the program should display a message and allow the user to make another choice from the menu.
Dot Product: This action is similar to the Vector Addition in terms of input, output, and checking validity of the vector operands.
Exit: This action terminates the program.
Your program should include at least the following functions:
1. A function, called ReadVector(), which reads a vector of any size from a given file name, and returns the vector and its size to the caller. The function prototype is defined as follows:
void ReadVector(double V[], int &size, ifstream infile);
2. A function, called DisplayMenu(), which displays the menu and returns the user’s choice as an integer value between 1 and 4. The function prototype is defined as follows:
int DisplayMenu (void);
3. A function, called VectorAdd(), which performs the addition of two vectors, A and B, and returns the resultant vector, C. The function prototype is defined as follows:
void VectorAdd(const double A[], const double B[], double C[], int size);
The sum of two vectors, A = (a1, a2, …, an) and B = (b1, b2, …, bn) of size n, is defined as: C = A + B.
Where, C = (c1, c2, …, cn), and ci = ai + bi, for1 i n .
4. A function, called DotProduct(), which performs the dot product of two vectors, A and B, and returns the result. The function prototype is defined as follows:
void DotProduct(const double A[], const double B[], int size, double &result);
The dot-product of two vectors A = (a1, a2, …, an) and B = (b1, b2, …, bn) of size n is defined as
n n
n
i
i i b a ....... b a b a b a B . A
1 1 2 2
1
5. A function, called Simple_Stat(), which finds the maximum, minimum, average, and standard deviation of a list of data items passed to it by a one-dimensional array. The function returns the average and standard deviation values. The function prototype is defined as follows:
void Simple_Stat(const double list[], int size, double &average, double
&std_dev);

So I have this text file that I am trying to read from and store the values of each line in multiple variables. Let's say my text file contains
AXSYZ3482 Tom 100 112 and my code below here works fine when the lines in the text file is separated by spaces.
Code:
while (fscanf(fp, "%s %s %d %d
", userID, name, &startLoc, &endLoc) != EOF) {
printf("%s %s %d %d
", userID, name, startLoc, endLoc);
}
But let's say my file was to look like this instead.
AXSYZ3482:Tom:100:112
But if i try this below...
Code:
while (fscanf(fp, "%s:%s:%d:%d
", userID, name, &startLoc, &endLoc) != EOF) {
printf("%s %s %d %d
", userID, name, startLoc, endLoc);
}
It seem to store the entire line in userID including the ":". I want to ignore the ":"'s and store everything in between in respective varibles in the order specified above.
So first string in userID, then ignore the :, then second string in name, and ignore the next :, and so forth.

I know that returning to main() is not a good idea but how will I loop the program to go back to the position selection when the voter is done voting for the last position.
when I run the program it seems fine. getting the votes from President to PRO Position is fine. The problem is how will the next voter vote without losing the vote (tally) of the previous voter?
FLOW:
SELECT POSITION (a-e) ---> SELECT A CANDIDATE (a-c) ---> (this goes on until the position of PRO) ---> ( then go back to the POSITION SELECTION)
After every vote there is a case statement for which I can choose to vote for the next position, quit, or show results (and after showing the results it will go to the next position to vote)....
#include<iostream>
#include<string>
#include <conio.h>
using namespace std;
int pca=0,pcb=0,pcc=0,ptv=0;

Which is more efficient in functions? Returning values or using pointers to redefine variables passed as arguments?
I mean either using:
void ptr_Func(int *x)
{
*x = *x+1
}
or
int ptr_Func(int x)
{
return x + 1;
}
In terms of speed, memory use etc.I want to know general efficiency, I know it will obviously vary with different uses and circumstances.

I am trying to create a simple interface on console to allow to input some values to some variables. For ex:
int main() {
double a = 1.5;
double b = 2.5;
double c = 3.5;
string x;
[Code] ....
However, I want these three to display at the same time (now they display one by one), and in the console window I can move the cursor between input place of a, b and c with "arrow key" of keyboard.

I thought that an operator performs a permanent change in a local variable. For example, if x is 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000011 (a 32 bit unsigned integer that resolves to value of 3) and p is 2, in the expression "return (x >> p) | (x << (s - p))", the right shift would permanently change x to 0 and the time we evaluate x again in "(x << (s - p))", x will already be 0. If that's the case, then this function doesn't make sense. This function makes it seem like that the >> and << operators do not change the value of x. It makes it seem like first we right shift x to 0 and then left shift by 20 bits to make x 11000000 00000000 00000000 00000000. If that's the case, then the function does exactly what it is supposed to do (rotate the bits). So which is it?
unsigned int rightrot(unsigned int x, unsigned int n) {
size_t s = sizeof(x) * CHAR_BIT;
size_t p;
if(n < s)
p = n;

#include <iomanip>
#include <cctype>

I am supposed to take the three string lines from a text file and then individually reverse them and state whether or not they are a palindrome. I have the three lines from the text file into string variables already but I am not sure on how to reverse them and then see if they are the same reversed(palindrome)
Here is my code so far -->
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cctype>
[Code].....
EDIT: Ignore line 123 and down in the code. That was merely test code and will not be used.

When running my code in Visual Studio, there is a particular point in the code where my program is crashing. To debug this, I am adding a break point in Debug mode just before that point, and observing what happens as I step through the code. However, to get to this break point in the code takes about a minute of running the program. So I'm wondering if there is a tool in Visual Studio to reload the state of a program's memory from a previous run, so that I can immediately get to the break point without having to wait for a minute each time?

In the following code example of the State Design Pattern, in the main code at the bottom it defines an instance of class Machine, and then calls Machine::off;. Why doesn't it instead call fsm.off;?
Machine fsm;
Machine::off;
Then I tried imitating that by adding a class Abba, and then doing:
Abba a;
Abba::DoStuff();
but that didn't work. Why?
Full code example:
// StatePattern.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application.
//
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
class Machine {
class State *current;
