C :: How To Create Private Fields In A Struct

Nov 6, 2014

How can you actually create private fields in a C struct? I got the concept of VTable and inheriting methods aswell overriding them, but private variables can be obtained with static keyword in sourcefile. If you have variables in a struct, you can access them as soon as you got a ref to the struct. The functions are easy:

Code:

struct classA {
pointerToFunction *p;
} static void* thePrivateFoo() { }
void* publicFoo() {
thePrivateFoo(); /* or something like that */
} ...
/*in init code somewhere in the c file */ classAInstance->p = publicFoo;

But I was thinking about the variables... How is this achievable? I was thinking of a struct with only get/set functions and with no datamembers at all. All vars to be static outside the struct. But this kind of destroys the encapsulation.

C++ :: Ioquake3 Engine - Accessing Limited Struct Fields

Feb 29, 2012

I'm currently working on the ioquake3 engine . The ioquake3 engine is separated into 2 different main threads at runtime: the gamecode and the engine. Both are communicating but not all information and my problem resides here.

In the gamecode, there's a struct called gentity_t which contains a lot of fields:

Code:
typedef struct gentity_s gentity_t;
struct gentity_s {
entityState_ts;// communicated by server to clients
entityShared_tr;// shared by both the server system and game
// DO NOT MODIFY ANYTHING ABOVE THIS, THE SERVER
// EXPECTS THE FIELDS IN THAT ORDER!
//================================
struct gclient_s*client;// NULL if not a client

[Code] ....

This whole entity is passed to the engine at runtime, but only the first two fields are declared for the engine:

Code:
// the server looks at a sharedEntity, which is the start of the game's gentity_t structure
typedef struct {
entityState_ts;// communicated by server to clients
entityShared_tr;// shared by both the server system and game
} sharedEntity_t;

My problem is that I need to access the health field of gentity_t from the engine. Technically, this is possible, but the health field is not declared in sharedEntity (which is the same memory address than gentity_t in the gamecode), so this is not straightforward.

I am looking for an elegant way to do this, and my constraint is that I must not edit the gamecode, only the engine.

The solutions I've thought:

- Just copy the whole gentity_t fields into sharedEntity_t. This would work I think but would be redundant, and I would like to avoid copying this huge set of fields.

- Include the two headers files declaring the gentity_t and sharedEntity_t structs, and create a Getter and a Setter functions that would cast a gentity_t over a sharedEntity_t and return/set a field. The problem is that I can't simply include them because they are both including some common headers files and this produce a recursive include error (and I can't modify the files to add a check, these are normally in the gamecode).

- Directly access the health field using a clever memory pointer, but I don't even know if that's possible given the huge number of fields prior health with many different types?

C/C++ :: Program Runs Into Error After Input Display

May 16, 2014

The code is supposed to display the total and averages of the data as well, but cuts off due to an error in the code. The code should also:

1)Print checks for all employees, one per page, sorted by lastname. The first check number, 100, is to be read from a company data file (see requirement 4). The border of each check is important and should not be omitted.

2)Convert the net pay to a text string for each check printed.

3)Print a reference code on each check. The reference code is obtained by combining the first letter of the lastname with all the consonants remaining after removing all vowels (a,e,i,o,u).

4)Use the same employee data found in assignment 2. Use company data, obtained from a text file, for each check printed:

Spoiler

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <ctype.h>

typedef short BOOLEAN;
typedef char STR15[15 + 1];
typedef char STR10[10 + 1];

C++ :: Pass 2 Arrays Into Void Function And Return Values To One Function?

Feb 12, 2014

I'm trying to pass 2 arrays into a void funtion, and return values to one function.

this is the the program I'm working with, after I'm done I have to split it into 3 files, a header, a main, and a separate cpp file for the functions to live in.

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void processArrary(int numberCount[], int Numbers[], int intnumberSize, int numberCountSize);
int main() {
int Scores[26] = {76, 89, 150, 135, 200, 76, 12, 100, 150, 28, 178, 189, 167, 200, 175, 150, 87, 99, 129, 149, 176, 200, 87, 35, 157, 189};
int numberCount[8] = { 0 };

[code]...

The goal of this program is to separate and count the groups of numbers then output the amount of numbers in each group. Near as I can tell, everthing should work, but I'm getting all zeros to be displayed in each group.

C++ :: Using Library - Error With Struct Declaration

Jul 30, 2012

Okay so I'm writing a simple program - so far with just 1 header and 1 .cpp file to go with it. I'm getting strange errors saying that my struct hasn't been recognised even though I declare it in the header. The code involved is --

Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<iostream>
#include<sstream>
#include"bots.h"
//#include"prisonersDilemna.h"
//write program to battle multiple bots with a random choice generator
//and after all iterations post who comes out on top.

[Code] ....

||=== Build finished: 6 errors, 0 warnings ===|

How should the syntax be? Why does my program not recognise bot as an object type? Why can I not have a void method?

C++ :: Pass Value From One Function To Another

Mar 30, 2014

In this program, I have to ask the user for an employee, then the program will check to see if the file for that employee exist, if it doesnt then it will automatically create the file.

ReadNew function reads the file....check to see if it exist

CreateNew function creates a new file.

In my code I have no problem with the first part of reading file.. and my createnew function works in other programs where I am asking for input of file name to create the file name. However in this code I cannot figure how to automatically pass the input filename from the ReadNew function to the CreateNew function. I can't ask the user to enter the name a second time, so I have to pass the input filename into both functions

Here is my code.

Code:
//Create a file, append to it, and read it.

#include <string.h>
#include <stdio.h>
using namespace std;

Visual C++ :: Operator Overload Not Defined Error When Type Accessed Through Const Struct

Oct 17, 2012

I have a basic vector/point class where I've overloaded a bunch of arithmetical operators:

Code:
#pragma once
class point {
public:
point() {
}
point(float p_x, float p_y, float p_z) : x(p_x), y(p_y), z(p_z)

[Code] ...

I can use it fine like

Code:
point p(50,50,50);
point q(50,50,50);
point t = p * q + q;

However when I put this point type into a struct and try to access the members after passing it through by const reference:

Code:
struct sextic {
point a,b,c,d,e,f,g;
};
inline static sextic sexticDifference(const sextic &p_sextic1, c

[Code] ....

This gives me an "operator not defined" error for compilation.
