C :: How To Count Total Characters From A Text File
Mar 21, 2013
I'm supposed to write a program to read a text file and display the following:
a) alphabetic letters //finished with
b) digits // finished with
c) other characters that are not alphabetic letters and not digits //finished with
d) total characters read
The bold part above confused me, by total characters, does it mean the alphabetic letters + other characters? how would I put that in my code?
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main (void)
{
int curCh;
int countCh = 0;
[Code]....

I have a text file like below read.txt:
1.0 2.0 3.0 4.0
2.0 3.0 4.0 6
5.0 7 1.0 5.0
calc.cpp:
void main() {
FILE *fp;
fp=fopen("read.txt","r");
double *read_feature = new double*[3];
[Code] ....
I want to count all the numbers in my text file (read.txt). Read text file consist of floating and integer number. Answer for the above file would be integer=2 and float =10.

My problem is to count the characters in a file and define how many times each one occurs.Characters who are not found must not be included in the table; The output must be a table - like that -
”| character | ASCII- DEC | ASCI – HEX | how many times it occurs |”
This my function:
Code:
int f2(FILE *p1)
{
FILE *g3;
int char_count[256]={0};
char ch;
int n=0;
if(!(g3=fopen("D:zz.txt", "w"))){
[Code] ....
It must look like this:
| D | 68 | 44 | 2 |
| 2 | 50 | 32 | 1 | and so on...

How can i count the total no of unique elements in an array? Like I have an array.
Code:
int array[]= { 2,1,4,0,3,3,0,0,1,2,1,1}
// As it has 0,1,2,3,4 as unique values so total no of unique values are=5
int unique =5;

I have a .txt file that contains, together with a few characters, columns of values that I want to save in different files like is written in the program (file 1, file2, file3 - a with x, b with y, c with z). The pattern of the source text file is like this:
known_vector frame1 151 65 0 frame2 151.000763 64.538582 0.563737
known_vector frame1 152 65 0 frame2 152.000702 64.542488 0.560822
known_vector frame1 153 65 0 frame2 153.000671 64.546150 0.558089
Until now I could manage to split the files, but the output gives me only zeros. First the program count the number of lines of the read text file, then it should display the desired columns of double values in three other .txt files.I've got for the three .txt files columns like this:
0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000
0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000
0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000

I'm writing a program that reads and counts all the printable characters (ASCII 32-126)found in a text file.
For example if the text file read: Why so serious?
The output to the screen would display(in order of ascii value however):
Character-----Total
W--------------1
h--------------1
y--------------1
s--------------3
o--------------2
etc...
However, I don't think it's reading any of the characters.
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <fstream>
#include <cmath>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int i, count[127];
[Code] .....

#include<conio.h>
#include<stdio.h>
void count();
void main() {
char c[100];
cout<<"Enter a string upto 99 characters(spaces included):"<<endl;
[Code] ....
The thing is, when I don't create a prototype of count and straightaway define it before void main() my program runs, but it gives error in this program that "extra parameter in call to count()" But what to do then?

I'm trying to create a program that counts the amount of alphabetical characters, numbers, blanks and total amount of characters in a string a user gets to enter. The user also quits the program manually by pressing CTRL + D (in linux terminal).
These are the results I get from the code so far by typing in "hello cplusplus 123 c++" CTRL + D.
The string had:
Alphabetical characters...: 0
Numbers...................: 0
Blanks....................: 3
Total amount of characters: 20
So I can't seem to find a way to count the amount of alphabetical characters and numeric characters.
Here's my code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <iomanip>
#include <cctype>
#include <sstream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
string tecken;
[Code] ....
The reason why I declared cctype is that I think I should use the isalpha, isdigit and isblank functions but how I am supposed to do that.

4.1 Write a program that will count from 1 to 12 and print the count, and its square, for each count.
4.2 Write a program that counts from 1 to 12 and prints the count and its inversion to 5 decimal places for each count. This will require a floating point number.
4.3 Write a program that will count from 1 to 100 and print only those values between 32 and 39, one to a line. Use the incrementing operator for this program.

I was just wondering whether or not it is possible to "mix" characters and integer values in a text document that is to be read by C.
I am to read and use values for length around the hip, neck and such, however, most of the tutoring examples I am finding online seem to strictly deal with either integers or characters alone.
Basically my text file looks a bit like:
Abdominal length: 90.000
Neck length: 26.500
and so on
So, before I move further into this subject, is it possible at all to isolate and use only the double values or will I have to format my text file differently?

Code:
int i;
char Text[1000];

I need a way to count lines in a .dat file using fscanf. I must use a regex to check that the characters in the file are alphanumeric. In essence I need to count the ' ' character. I know fscanf ignores this character. I need to exit if it detects anything other than alphanumeric with the digit that is "problem" along with the line number. My .dat file is:
Code:
howard jim dave
joe
(
Maggie My fileCheck.c is: Code: #include "main.h"
int fileCheck(FILE *fp)
{
int ret_val;
int line_count = 0;
char file[BUFF];
[Code]...
The output I am getting is:
Code:
file opened Digit: ( is not an alphanumeric character on line: 5 Program will exit! File closed As you can see, the character "(" is not on the 5th line but the 3rd. It is the 5th "string."
I also wanted to show the regex I am using.
Code:
#define to_find "^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$"
How this can be accomplished?
