C/C++ :: Program To Take A Number From The User And Give Reduced Sum
Dec 30, 2014
i have only recently got into programming. i have this homework assignment that is frying my brains, the program needs to take a number from the user and give the 'reduced' sum. for example: if the user enters 888 then the sum should be: 6. it takes the number and adds its digits im just looking for a direction to where my problem is
#include "iostream.h"
int reduction (int number) {
return number/10+number%10;
}
int main() {
int number,loopcount;
cout<< "please enter a number"<<endl;
cin>>number;
[Code]...

I have created an error message if the user inputs the wrong selection number
if (choices < 1 || choices > 5)
{
cout << "
Please Enter a number between 1-5
";
}
How would i create a error message if the user inputs letters/words instead of a number.

The program works, but the rational number doesn't print as reduced. I guess i have to call the reduction function, but i'm not sure where
the output that i get is:
2/6 + 7/8 = 58/48
58/48 = 1.20833
2/6 - 7/8 = -26/48
-26/48 = -0.541667
2/6 x 7/8 = 14/48
14/48 = 0.291667
2/6 / 7/8 = 16/42
16/42 = 0.380952
the output that i suppose to get is:
1/3 + 7/8 = 29/24
29/24 = 1.20833
1/3 - 7/8 = -13/24
-13/24 = -0.541667
1/3 x 7/8 = 7/24
7/24 = 0.291667
1/3 / 7/8 = 8/21
8/21 = 0.380952
here is my header file
//Prevent multiple inclusions of header
#ifndef RATIONAL_H
#define RATIONAL_H
//Rational class definition
class Rational {

I was told to use a round function to round a number to give an integer number that is closer to the real value. (for example if the number is 114.67 I need to print an int value of 115 instead of 114)
I am not exactly sure how a round function works, but I am told to include math.h library. What I try doesn't seem to work.

I am in the process of writing a program that will give the appropriate color code for a resistor after the user enters an integer value for the resistance needed and selects the tolerance form a list. My question is this: Is there a way to allow the user to enter a value such as 75000 and C++ use each digit separately, as if they entered 7 [enter], 5[enter], 0 [eneter]... and so on? But, then use the entire value as an integer too? Also, it should read a value such as: 45835, as 45000, or 1843 as 1800.

All my code is good, except the functions: findMacLoc and findMinLoc .They don't give me the correct array location of the max/min number in the array.I know is something simple I need to tweak in those two functions.

using namespace std;
void printArray(int a [], int & size)

int i;
for (i = 0; i < size; i++)

I have two unassigned variables A,B . My program goes as follows
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cmath>
#include <stdlib.h>
using namespace std;
bool die (const string & msg);
[Code] ....
This a program that makes a calculator in which this is a small portion of it, all the exponent numbers work exceptfor anything ending in 5.
Examples go as follow 2^3=8, 3^2=9, 5^2=24
I want to why this happens, is it because they are unassigned variables?

I am currently working on an assignment.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
char letter;
int count = 0;
double ppl = 0;
double finalCost = ppl * (count - 1);
[Code] ....
I am trying to create a word counter program that asks for the price per letter and then asks for the sentence they are writing. The app should then calculate the number of letters and give the total cost similar to:
You have 40 letters at $3.45 per letter, and your total is $138.00.
Everything compiles fine but when I run it the inputs don't work and it outputs:
You have -1 per letter, and your total cost is $-0.

So I'm trying to make a program that asks the user for a number and then prints a statement the same number of times the user entered. 3 different statements, using the 3 loops (for, while, and do while). I made the program but for some reason the statement from the do while loop goes off infinitely.
MY CODE:

Write a C++ program that asks the user to enter an even number only. If the user enters an odd number the program should use input validation to ask the user to enter another number.
- The user can enter as many numbers as he wants
- The program should also keep a count of how many numbers entered and display how many odd and even numbers entered.

I'm trying to create a program that prints a number of dots specified by the user, there 4 options to do any loop type or to exit the menu. i'm having problems making it so that after you enter a value and it displays the specified number of dots it clears the results. Also we have to make it so that if a negative integer is entered it still prints out the appropriate amount of dots ie: user puts -9 it prints 9 dots, i know you use the abs() function but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm assuming my problem with the abs function is i'm not using it correctly. Use case 1 as the example for the rest because I'm trying to implement everything on one case at a time
Code:
int main() {
//initialization statements
int Num1 = 0;
char dot = '.';
[code]....

Im trying to create a program that has the user input a 5 digit number. If it's between 10000 & 99999, it will do one thing..(just saying 'yes' for now. Outside those numbers will prompt the user to input again. However, if the user inputs the exact digits 76087, it should display 'term'.
This current code is displaying 'term' whenever the user inputs the 5 digits.
Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int pin;
cout << "Welcome to Movie Food
Enter your 5-digit pin code: " ;

I need to write a program that will give me multiple calculation results.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main () {
int x = 8;
int y = 7;
[Code] ....
It only calculates the last two numbers: 1 and 0, so therefor it gives me 1.
But i need to calculate x and y each time they are smaller(incremented) by one digit.
Please note that the int calculation formula needs to stay.

Write a program that prompts the user to enter an item#, the program should determine if the item is in the file and print the price of the corresponding item. If the item is not in the file an error message should be printed.
All I have so far is
string item_no=0;
cout<<"Enter a item#";
getline(cin,item_no);
if stream openData;
I need to finish the rest in pseudo code

I'm trying to write a C++ program that will allow a user to input a number from the keyboard. Then using a loop, that will perform 10 times, multiply the entered number by the loop counter. Print out the loop counter, the entered number and the product of the loop counter and the entered number. A one-time heading should be displayed before information is printed.
This kinda of what I have so far:
#include <iosteam>
using namespace std;
int main () {
Start
Declare: numScores, sum, score, avg, SENTINEL = 200
numScores = 0
[Code] ....
All the programs I have tried to make are not working?

I'm currently creating a guessing game program where the user will be asked to guess the computer generated number. Once the program is finished, at the end the user will be asked if they want to play again. If the user types "Y or Y" the program will loop and when the user types "n or N" it will not loop. Check out my code below.
#include<iostream.h>
#include<stdio.h>
#include<dos.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
#include<conio.h>
#define g gotoxy
void main(){
int a,l,b,guess,row,col,answer,num,clue=5;
[Code] ....
I can't loop this program.

int k=0; //could this be the problem??? since 0 would be over writing any given value. but if i leave int k; it showsa warning and MSVC would count that as an error
