C# :: Accessing GUI Properties From Application Object

Aug 20, 2014

I'm trying to get my head around threading and gui applications for fun, and I've ran into a problem I'm not too sure how to google it correctly or I don't understand the answers given. Basically I'm trying to access GUI item properties (add to a listview). I've been on stackoverflow alot, and I've noticed that accessing these properties is quite difficult. At least, I'm not really understanding how it is supposed to be done.

The following line gives me a null value.

frm.lstChat.Items.Add(newList);

From what I understand I need to access my form object instead of creating a new object window... but I'm not sure how to reference the initial form application.

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Windows.Forms;
using System.Net.Sockets;
using System.IO;
using System.Threading;
namespace ModBot {

[Code] ....

C++ :: Accessing Symbols In Application From Within Dynamic Library MinGW

Apr 17, 2013

I am porting an application from Linux to Windows. Since it is a GTK app most of the stuff works; I have to touch a little here and there. One problem though I cannot find the solution as it seems. The application uses a plugin system for easy expandable functionality. The interface to the plugin is very simple: an init function, a worker function, and a deinit function. The plugins shall have access to the main applicationsymbols (functions global variables). I cannot find a working (and feasible) way under Windows to make the linking work. I always get "undefined reference" errors for symbols which exist in the application. I am using MinGW 4.6.2. I made a stripped down demo application to be able to better (and faster) test the principle. I am using the dlfcn-win32 project from Ramiro Polla [URL]... for the dynamic loading stuff and it works like a charm.

Here is the project:
plugintest.tar.gz
plugintest.zip

It tried a number of commandline options to the linker for the application (--export-all-symbols, --export-dynamic, -rdynamic (apparently not supported in MinGW)) as well as for the shared objects (--allow-shlib-undefined, --enable-auto-import, --enable-runtime-pseudo-reloc).

As you can see in the provided makefile under Linux it is just "-shared" for the .so. Under Mac OS X (Darwin) it is "-bundle -bundle_loader <app name>".

Either it is a different configuration / environment or I must have overlooked something. How to do this and if it is even possible in Windows?

Here is a .zip archive of the dlfcn stuff with modified makefile, which works on the cmd.exe command prompt; MSYS is not required. Just adjust the MinGW installation path in config.mak and type 'make" and 'make install'. dlfcn-win32-r19.zip

C++ :: Accessing Objects Within Another Object

Feb 8, 2014

I'm currently trying to access a variable contained within a base object from another completely different object and I continually get error messages. I'll attempt to put up the important code since it's contained within fairly large classes. From the Base .cpp file. ObjectPosition:

void ObjectPosition::init(float x,float y, float speed, int boundx, int boundy, float hit, int lives, bool live) {
ObjectPosition::x = x;
ObjectPosition::y = y;
ObjectPosition::speed = speed;
ObjectPosition::boundx = boundx;
ObjectPosition::boundy = boundy;
ObjectPosition::hit = hit;
ObjectPosition::lives = lives;
ObjectPosition::live = live;
}

This is the initialization function for the BaseObject. All objects are inheriting these variables which are Protected within the ObjectPosition class.Then they are initialized within the Pig class thus wise:

void Pig::binit(float sx,float sy, ALLEGRO_BITMAP *simage) {
//Sets all ObjectPosition Variables
ObjectPosition::init(800,900,10,80,40,40,10,true);
smaxFrame = 4;
scurFrame = 0;

[code]...

I tried to initialize the boundx through the pig via pinitx but I get errors and I can't access through the pig to the object position to the boundx.

C++ :: One Object Accessing Private Data Of Other?

Feb 26, 2012

Basically, I've got one object which has to access private data in another object... and can't.

Here's the specifics: I'm writing a little war game program where players deploy units (soldiers, tanks, planes, etc.) onto a gameboard. Players and Units are modeled as objects:

Code:
class GameUnit {
public:
string GetName() {return Name;}
protected:
string Name;
};
class Player {

[Code] ....

Here's the problem: In the above code, Player's ListUnits() function doesn't work because Player can't access GameUnit's GetName() function.

Specifically, here's the compiler's error message:

Code:
In file included from Main.cpp:18:
Player.h: In member function 'void Player::ListUnits()':
Player.h:47: error: 'GetName' undeclared (first use this function)
Player.h:47: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in.)

I've tested enough to realize that the problem is the GameUnit::GetName() function is a public function within the GameUnit object. Why can't a Player call this function? Making both friend classes of each other doesn't work.

C# :: Rain Application - Object Reference Not Set To Instance Of Obj

Mar 2, 2014

I'm trying to make a "Rain" application, by drawing some lines on the form, and then they must fall. So here is my start code:

public partial class Form1 : Form {
public Form1() {
InitializeComponent();
}
Random r = new Random();
Graphics paper;
Line line;

[Code] ....

So when I start debugging I get the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error. If I remove the comments lines at "timer1_Tick" this error doesn't appear of course. What can I do to escape from this because it follows me everywhere I go />. I tried to make with arrays, but same problem.

C++ :: Application Will Not Start After Adding Extra Object File To Project

Aug 18, 2013

I'm working on a cross-platform threading project, the aim is to start 1 worker-thread that has a queue of worker-items which are serviced by the thread.

The threading framework works fine, both under Windows and LINUX, albeit as designed under Windows, and in a modified form under LINUX.

I have this CSnmpTrapd class which is designed as a worker-item for the worker-thread, it listens for incoming SNMP traps and decodes the packets, this is implemented in csnmptrapd.cpp and csnmptrapd.hpp.

1) When I add this piece of code to my makefile and re-compile the app successful... the app will start (or not?) but generates no console or file logging as is expected, it will not even show printf() output which was added as first statement in main(). My app handles CTRL-C to terminate and this works !?!? But I'm actually not sure my app works at that point.

2) When I compile the app without csnmptrapd.cpp and start it, it will generate console and logging output and behave as expected.

3) When I add the CSnmpTrapd class implementation to an existing cpp file in the project, it will compile and run as expected... the worker-thread handles the CSnmpTrapd worker-item as it should, incoming SNMP traps are captured and decoded, logging generated

C# :: Getting Properties From Different Classes / Objects

Feb 26, 2015

I have startes making a game where there is 3 ships that cross the screen verticaly, and the point is to shoot them down. So far I have actually managed to do this. I have also managed to add gamescore to the ships. But here is my problem, I cant find a way to combine the score from all three ships in to one score. I have all three ships in different classes, is that wrong? When I try to combine the scores, ship score1 cant see the other scores.

Do I need to somehow have all the ships in one class. Or are there a way to read the scores from three classes, and adding them up in to one in a new class?

One of the errors I get is "the name 'score1' does not exist in the current context.

C# :: Passing Properties Between Forms

Nov 2, 2014

I've been attempting to design a multiform WFA in Visual Studio 2010, but I'm so rusty with the language it's hard to remember how to do a lot of things, especially when it comes to visual programming, which my class only partially covered. I've never made a multiform application before, and my problem essentially boils down to how to pass data between forms.

My application is a simple item list and order form, sort of mimicking what you might see on a site like Amazon or eBay. My first form contains a drop down list and 'checkout' button. The dropdown list has been populated with an object collection, each object holding the product's name and price.

public partial class Form1 : Form
{
//Item class for dropdown menu
public class Item {
public string Name;
public decimal Price;
public string itemName

[Code] ....

When the 'checkout' button on form 1 is clicked, I want the Price and Name properties of the selected droplist item to appear in a pair of text boxes on form 2 for the purpose of lowering the user's cognitive load (if they can see what they've selected, it's one less thing to remember).

I've seen plenty of tutorials on how to send a textbox Text property between forms, but none for how to do this. As I said, I'm rusty with the language, and I'm pretty sure there's a better way to set up my combobox items, but I can't remember how to set it up.

C# :: Use Of Auto-implemented Properties?

Jan 28, 2014

Code using auto-implemented property:

public class MyClass {
public int age { get; set; }
}
static void Main(string[] args) {
MyClass testing = new MyClass();
testing.age = 44;
Console.WriteLine(testing.age);
}

output: 44

Code using regular variable declaration:

public class MyClass {
public int age;
}
static void Main(string[] args) {
MyClass testing = new MyClass();
testing.age = 44;
Console.WriteLine(testing.age);
}

output: 44

Why use the auto-implemented property when you can just as equally use the second code block to achieve the same thing?

C/C++ :: Adding Properties To A Class?

Jun 29, 2014

I had written a "DLL" in VB.NET a year or two ago to read and set MP3 tags. I want to write this exact same library in C++ so I can convert it in my droid project, and to get a hands on introduction to C++. So far this attempt has been a total mind melt!

I am finally wrapping my head around .cpp and .h files so there is light at the end of this tunnel. Here is my problem now:

I wrote the VB project with properties for each tag in the MP3 file, then I could get and set them - easy stuff.

When I try this in C++ I get compile error: a property can only appear within the definition of a managed type. I can usually stumble through Google searches and figure out this type of stuff on my own, but this one is stumping me -- I think I am missing some fundamental stuff here.

My code:

// MP3Tags.h
#pragma once;
#include <string>
using namespace std;
using namespace System::IO;

[Code]....

May 9, 2012

I want to create an application that starts an application and passes input to that application. I know how to start a process using the classes in System.Diagnostics, but I don't know how to pass data to the process.

For example, and this is just an example, I would like to be able to automatically start an application that requires a username and password and automatically enter the username and password. Of course, that might open the door to security vulnerabilities, but that's not the point of the exercise.

How to implement the functionality I described? Is there a general way to go about doing this or does it depend entirely on the idiosyncrasies of the application in question?
