Visual C++ :: Check For File Existence - Function Will Fail Or Return Non-zero Value
Sep 21, 2013
Just wonder is it possible that if the file exist, this function below will fail by returning non-zero value?
_access( INIFilename, 00 )
00 - check for Existence only
I noticed that sometimes if even the file exist, the function will fail or return non-zero value. So trying to find out and duplicate this error. It tends to happen intermittently. How can I find out what causing this error?
Code:
char INIFilename[256]="C: emp est.ini";
unsigned long Error = 0;
if( _access( INIFilename, 00 ) != 0 ) {
Error= GetLastError();
printf ("Failed to access INI file %s (%ul)", INIFilename, Error);
}

This scenario like this
User>>(provide file name)
Code>>(check if file already exist show msg:
"File already (abc.c) exist would you like to create another file and rename it ("abc2.c") "maybe it need loop to search directory "????
User>>if press yes ok it will make another file with another name but if no exit the function and dont create another file
Code: // function to check file existence and here what i need to add the feature above

When I write the Ctor as follows, I get an Error: Invalid Sharing Flag 0 (That happens when file exists or does not exist)
File::File(const string& file)
{
m_file.open(file, std::ios::out, std::ios::app);
}
When I write the Ctor as foolows, I manage to open / create a file.
File::File(const string& file)
{
m_file.open(file);
}
What is wrong with option #1?
note that m_file is a data member of type ofstream

I am using stat command to check the existence of a file in a directory.
The directory is having some 10K files. I feel the stat() call is expensive as i do not need the structure to be populated.
I want only the existence of the file.
Is there any other alternative faster way to do this in C.

I have been trying for hours to create a specific prototype program that determines a pascal's triangle for a give number of rows. However, prototype must have the return type of int**. I just recently learnt about pointers, why my attempt of the function doesn't work. As well, i am not sure how I can check if my return value actually points to the pascal triangle.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int **getPascalTriangle(int n)
}

I'm writing some functions pertaining to binary trees. I've used recursion once before while learning quicksort but am still quite new and unfamiliar with it. And this is my first time touching a binary tree. So my question: In my addnode function, will the return root statement at the end ever return a value other than the value passed to the function?
Code:
#include <stdlib.h>
struct tnode
{
int data;
struct tnode * left;
struct tnode * right;
}
[code]....

I'm trying to pass 2 arrays into a void funtion, and return values to one function.
this is the the program I'm working with, after I'm done I have to split it into 3 files, a header, a main, and a separate cpp file for the functions to live in.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void processArrary(int numberCount[], int Numbers[], int intnumberSize, int numberCountSize);
int main() {
int Scores[26] = {76, 89, 150, 135, 200, 76, 12, 100, 150, 28, 178, 189, 167, 200, 175, 150, 87, 99, 129, 149, 176, 200, 87, 35, 157, 189};
int numberCount[8] = { 0 };
[code]...
The goal of this program is to separate and count the groups of numbers then output the amount of numbers in each group. Near as I can tell, everthing should work, but I'm getting all zeros to be displayed in each group.

Code:
HWND w;
w = FindWindow(NULL, L"c:userspkrudocumentsvisual studio 2010ProjectsCleanVirusDebugCleanVirus.exe");
[Code]....
After program process success in console it not close console windows but it show like this in Output
The thread 'Win32 Thread' (0x1300) has exited with code 0 (0x0).
I think if I can check when VC will show this line, then I can use FreeConsole(); for close console windows.

The function is supposed to return value from the file in my main, but I am getting empty value. I am trying to get better with pointer. Right now just teaching myself.
right now the only way for this code to show value is when in put the putchar(*ps) inside my readfile function. I would like to readfile to return value and print in the main function.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
char *readfile(char filename[]);
int main(int argc, char *argv[] ) {

I have been trying to make a very simply programme that checks if the inputted information is an integer or not (i.e: that it contains no other characters).
I have tried using the isdigit function (but this only works for single characters). I have tried cin.clear, cin.ignore (1000) but this doesn't work either..
Any effective way to check if x in the following programme has been entered correctly
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
cout << "Please enter an integer (positive or negative)" << endl;
int x;
cin >> x;
HERE I WOULD LIKE CODE TO CHECK IF THE USERS INPUT IS VALID
}

I have two third party DLL files that I wanted to check if they are 32bit or 64. I searched the web and some suggested corflags, I found it under "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SDKsWindowsv7.0ABin" (my machine is 64bit but I didn't find the utility under "Program Files" folder), it came out with the message:
corflags : error CF007 : The specified file does not have a valid NT file header
Whats wrong with it?

For my project I need to check whether my application instance is already running or not. I got the following code from Net ..
Code :
HANDLE mutex;
mutex = CreateMutex( NULL, TRUE, _T("MYAPPNAME"));
if ( GetLastError() == ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS ) {
// There's another instance running. What do you do?
AfxMessageBox(_T("Application Already Exists"));
PostQuitMessage(0);
ExitThread(0);
return;
}
The code works fine .. but the code even works fine , even if I pass any string as a parameter to CreateMutex. E.g.
mutex = CreateMutex( NULL, TRUE, _T("QQQQ"));
How it is working fine ?

Why the program continues to prompt me for a vaild number even when the correct number( a gpa) is entered. I'm not sure if the problem lies in the isDouble function or the getDouble?

bool isDouble (const string &str) {
int decimal = 0;

Under visual studio, this is a typical run time error,
Code:
void func(int x){
x = 3;
}
int main() {
int x;
func(x);
}
When x is passed to the function func, it is not initialized. But my question is that why it should be an error? On the other hand, if I change the definition of func a little bit like this,
Code:
void func(int& x) {
*x = 3;
}
int main() {
int x;
func(&x);
}
Now in main, x is still not initialized, but this time there isn't a run time error like "the variable is being used without being initialized. Why?

run-time check failure #0 - the value of ESP was not properly saved across a function call. This is usually a result of calling a function declared with one calling convention with a function pointer declared with a different calling convention

If there are two projects A and B. A is created as .dll, while B is created as static library.
project A has a class "classA"
classA: public classB {
public:
testA();
};
project B has a class "classB"
classB {
public:
testB();
} ;
I want to make a symbol of classB::testB() in A.exp (like ?testB@classB@@QAEXXZ), can I do it by using __declspec(dllexport)?
Also if I make classB as a template class, can the symbol of classB::testB() be generated automatically in A.exp when building project A?

This code is supposed to ask the user to input characters at most 20 and they should only be composed of alphabets/spaces..
Code:
#include <string.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <ctype.h>
int main(){
char addressbook[6][30][0];
int current_record = 0, length, i=0;
[Code] ....
I have removed the error from the main code but there's still this lingering error in the return part.
syntax error before 'return'.
It won't compile.

PHP Code:
int processString(xxx)
{
//do something
return non-null terminated string length
}
To make the function work better we change its internals
PHP Code:
int processString(xxx)
{
//do something
return null terminated string length
}
This phenomenon can be observed by use of mutibyte to wide char conversions, string copy , concatenation functions of MS etc ....
Should I minus one in the return value of the second function to match both versions ?
