C++ :: Write A Small B Before Capital B In The File?

May 16, 2013

Suppose my file a.txt has "ABC" written in it. Now I want to write a small b before capital B in the file. How will I do it. I've tried to do it but i'm having problems.

1. When opened in app mode seekp doesn't work.
2. When opened normally previous written data is erased.

C :: How To Read Only The First Capital Letter From A File

Dec 25, 2014

I'm supposed to count the number of first capital letters in a string. I've written a code that counts every uppercase letter, and it turns out that this is not what the assignment is about. For example, the input "JAMES, How Are you?" should return an output of 3 (mine would return 7 in this case). Only J, H, A need to be counted.

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#define MAX 100
void WriteToFile() {
FILE *f = fopen("text.txt", "w");
char c;
while((c = getchar()) != EOF) {

[Code]...

How do I fix this?

C :: Find Number Of Capital Letters And Punctuations In A String

Jan 28, 2015

write a C program which repeatedly reads in sentences from the user and reports on how many capital letters are in the sentence and how many punctuation characters. Your program will stop asking for input once the user has entered in a blank line. Consider the following example usage with the program. User input is marked in underline:

Enter a sentence: John and Mary went to Fred's house.
You used 3 capital letters and 2 punctuation characters.
Enter a sentence: I like A&W more than McDonald's.
You used 5 capital letters and 3 punctuation characters.
Enter a sentence:
Good bye!

Hint: make use of the standard C functions ispunct and isupper. Other requirements. You must make two functions.

Make a function called find_characters, which has a return type of void, and which has three parameters: one of type char * (a string to find characters in), one of type int * (a reference to int variable indicating how many capital letters are in the string) and the last one also of type int * (a reference to an int variable indicating how many punctuation characters are in the string). Your find_characters function should scan the string and update the two variables it has references to.Make a main function.

This function should repeatedly read in a string from the user, call your find_characters function, and output the information returned to it by the find_characters function indicating how many capital letters and how many punctuation characters were in the string. Your main function should stop reading in input when the user enters in a blank string (i.e., the user just hits enter without entering anything else in). You may assume that the user will not enter in a sentence longer than 100 characters

Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
#include<ctype.h>
#include<string.h>

int main(void) {

C++ :: Add Small Function To Allow To Pause Game?

Dec 4, 2013

I am trying to add a small function to allow me to pause the game I am making. I measure the time elapsed using the following algorithm:

1. USE ""clock_t begin=clock();"" FOR SYSTEM TIME OF GAME BEGINNING.
2. USE ""cout<<(clock()-begin)/CLOCKS_PER_SEC;"" TO DISPLAY TIME ELAPSED IN SECONDS.

Now, if I want to pause, I would want to subtract the 'paused' time from the total time elapsed.Say,

clock_t pause, resume;
{
pause=clock();
.
.
.
resume=clock();
}

Then I would do cout<<(clock()-begin-(resume-pause))/CLOCKS_PER_SEC;

This, though is what I want, works only once(I can pause only once). I can use arrays of resume and pause, but it would still limit the number of times I can pause.

What I am looking for is a way to pause any number of times.

C Sharp :: Array Size Limitation Is Too Small

Mar 24, 2013

I am having difficulty with arrays because of the limitation of the size of the arrays that I can declare. I need sizes that are very large and windows or C# does not allow me to create bigger than the following for example:

public static int[] gaPoints = new int[20000000000000000000 + 1];

I get an error message saying that "integral size is too large".

I need to be able to declare sizes that are even much larger than the abovementioned size.

How can I circumvent this problem?

Do I have to use something other than arrays?

C++ :: Storing Very Small Numbers - But Only Order Of Magnitude

Feb 9, 2013

I want to store a very small number - too small for even a long double. However, I don't need the number to be stored very precisely - in fact, all I really need is the order of magnitude of the number. For example, the number 5.205849034425 X 10^-381 can just be stored as an integer of -381 for my purposes. I don't really care about the precision of the 5.205849034425 part.

The reason I get this very small number, is because I am multiplying together thousands of numbers, all of which are around 0.0001 in value. So, one way to do this would be to store all these individual values as simply their order of magnitude (e.g. -4) and then instead of multiplying the numbers, I would just add up their orders of magnitude. However, I am wondering whether there is a way in C++ to do this without me having to change the way I store my data - I still would like to keep the original values if possible.

I have been writing a program to generate pairs of RSA keys using small prime numbers. I have been using mpz_invert() to get a value for d for the private key. On small prime numbers it calculates the correct value, but on larger primes it calculates incorrect values.

I'm assuming there must be an upper limit to the values the mpz_invert() function can handle? If so, what is this limit to avoid erroneous values?

C++ :: Size Of Process Grows Larger For Lots Of Small Memory Allocations

Jun 21, 2013

Why the size of a process grows larger in size for lots of small memory allocations. For example, say I have this struct, which is 16 bytes (for a 32 bit build):

Code:
struct Person {
int iID;
int iAge;
char * pForeName;
char * pSurName;
};

If I allocate memory like this:

Code:
LPBYTE lpB = new BYTE[sizeof(Person) * 1000000];

Then my process grows to 16,48KB in size, which is what I expected. However if I allocate memory like this:

Code:
Person * lpPerson;
for(int i = 0; i < 1000000; ++i)
lpPerson = new Person;

Then the process grows to 78,656KB, which I don't understand.

Additionally, I was surprised to find a vector acts more similarly to the first example. This code:

Code:
Person temp = { 0 };
std::vector<Person> people;
for(int i = 0; i < 1000000; ++i)
people.push_back(temp);

Only increases the process memory to 16,892.

C :: Program To Calculate Students Grades From Input File And Write To Output File

Aug 29, 2014

One of my class assignments is to create a program that receive a .txt file containing a students name and their grades as follows:

John K. 99, 87, 57, 89, 90, 95
Amanda B. Jones 100, 88, 76, 99, 86, 92
etc..

The number of students is unknown until run time. You have to take those grades and average them weighing the first (4) at 10% a piece and the last (2) at 30% each.

Then return an output file with the students name and their letter grade A,B,C,D,F based on their computed score. In addition, on screen it needs to display the average scores for each Q1, Q2, etc. as well as the minimum and maximum for each test on the screen. I am having a hard time in assigning the scores to a variable so that they can then be computed as an average and then used to determine a letter grade. I have begun to write the code and am a bit stuck..here's what I have so far:

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <math.h>

C :: Create File To Write Text And Read Back The File Content

Mar 15, 2013

The Objective Of This Program Is To Create A File To Write Text And Read Back The File Content. To Do That I Have Made Two Function writeFile() To Write And readFile() To Read.The readFile() function works just fine but writeFile() doesn't.

How writeFile() function Works? when writeFile() function Execute It Takes Characters User Type And When Hit Enter(ASC|| 10) It Ask "More?(Y/N)" That Means What User Want? Want To Go Next Line Or End Input?

If "Y" Than Inputs Are Taken From Next Line Else Input Ends.

But The Problem Is When Program Encounters ch==10 It Shows "More?(Y/N)" And Takes Input In cmd variable.If cmd=='Y' I Mean More From Next Line Than It Should Execute Scanf Again To Take ch I Mean User Input.But Its Not!!! Its Always Showing "More?(Y/N)" Again And Again Like A Loop.

Code:

void writeFile(void);
void readFile(void);

C++ :: Read From A Txt File And Then Write A New Text File With Sorted Line

Jun 11, 2014

I have a .txt file which I want to read from and then write a new text file, this time with sorted lines. It is easy to sort one value, but what about sorting entire lines based on one value?

I want to sort the lines based on the FIRST value.

Example text file contents:

values;data
5.01 100
2.9 342
2.69 43534
10.1 43
6.8 45324

Output: Text file containing

2.69 43534
2.9 342
5.01 100
6.8 45324
10.1 43

It's easy to do this if there was only 1 number on each line, but I do I sort all the lines based on the first number in each line?

C/C++ :: Program To Compute Students Grades From File And Write Them To File?

Aug 31, 2014

We have to write a program that reads an input file containing data in the form:

Martha J, 80, 90, 90, 100, 89, 99, 85
Anna Smith, 65, 72, 77, 68, 62, 70, 65
Bill Gates, 60, 54, 89, 62, 65, 60, 50
...etc...

and then use that information to determine their letter grade and write that information to a .txt file. I have been able to successfully pass that information to a function to determine their letter grade and have been able to successfully compute their letter grade. However, I can get this information to successfully post within the *computeGrade () function. Yet, I don't know how to pass this information back to the main() on a student by student basis so that I can open a new .txt file and write just their name and letter grade to it.

Another issue I'm having is when it comes to computing the averages of the class. Each score is either a quiz (there are 4), a midterm (there are 2) or a final (there is 1). I'm a little stuck on how to pass say all of the quiz 1 grades as one entity to the function averagesminmax(). Is there a way to compile each of the grades for a specific quiz or midterm as one array and pass that to the function to then do the computation. Also we need the min and max so again from compiling the grades of a particular quiz or exam together as one.

Here's the code that I have so far.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <math.h>
const char *computeGrade();
int averagesminmax();
int main() {
char fName[20];
char lName[20];

[code]....

Do I need to re-read the input file and assign them to different variables?

Here's a sample of the output so far:

Enter input .txt file name
Graded
Thui Bhu, 91, A
Ariana B. Smith, 96, A
Emily Gonzales, 83, B
Jennifer L, 89, B
Maria Jones, 67, D
Bill Gates, 55, F
Escobar Morris, 78, C
Anne Latner, 88, B
Program ended with exit code: 0

Also in my output file, the only thing that it prints will be the first name of whatever the last student in the input file list is.
