C++ :: Program To Display Error Message If Variable Entered Not An Integer

Nov 8, 2013

I need to have a program display an error message if the variable entered isn't an integer but then I want it to cin again. I have this but it doesn't work:

cout << "Enter an Integer: " ;
for (;;) {
cin >> var;
if (!cin) {

[Code] ....

I am not sure how to do what I want and this doesn't work, it just repeats That wasn't an int.. over and over again.

C :: Take Integer Input For Temperature And Display Message For Different Ranges For Each Day Of Week

Apr 20, 2014

I'm writing the program below to take an integer input for temperature and display a cheesy message for different ranges for each day of the week.

I tried using two if statements, the first to determine if the input is valid, and the else display that it was invalid and to try again.

The second set of if (if else) statements would evaluate a number input and display the cheesy message based on the value, or if it was out of range, to make you re input that days temperature.

I understand that the else statement is linked to the closest if statement, unless brackets are added to prevent this. I thought my brackets were correct, but I keep getting [Error]'else' without previous if'. The red lines are the if and else statement I'd like to be linked, and tried to do so by enclosing the 2nd if statement in brackets.

The assignment doesn't require the error checking, but if I don't use some form of it I believe it will just loop. Again I have to use the last 4 lines due to instructors rules, and have to use scanf and not strings or arrays.

This program will ask the user what the temperature will be for each day of the week. The integer input from the keyboard will be tested in a series of IF tests and a message will be printed depending on the temperature.

Code] ....

#include <stdio.h>
#define MAX 100
#define MIN 0

int main() {
int day = 1;
int temp;

C/C++ :: Program Runs Into Error After Input Display

May 16, 2014

The code is supposed to display the total and averages of the data as well, but cuts off due to an error in the code. The code should also:

1)Print checks for all employees, one per page, sorted by lastname. The first check number, 100, is to be read from a company data file (see requirement 4). The border of each check is important and should not be omitted.

2)Convert the net pay to a text string for each check printed.

3)Print a reference code on each check. The reference code is obtained by combining the first letter of the lastname with all the consonants remaining after removing all vowels (a,e,i,o,u).

4)Use the same employee data found in assignment 2. Use company data, obtained from a text file, for each check printed:

C :: Output Smallest Integer Entered - Loops / Function

Oct 22, 2014

I am trying to find a way to put a getSmallest function in here so that it will output smallest integer entered. If it is just an arbitrary amount of #'s and I don't know what will be entered I am confused. Both on how to do it and how to link my function to my loop.

Code:

Date: 10/20/14

#include <stdlib.h>

Could I take this and just replace all variables a, b, and c with getNumber, where would I link/declare smallest?

C++ :: Creating Variable On Runtime - Message Decoding

Apr 10, 2013

I receive messages over a bus. Suppose there is a function to read the messages storing them into a struct defined as follows:

typedef struct
{
ULONG timestamp;
BYTE ID;
BYTE data_length;
BYTE data[8];
} MSG_FRAME;

Depending on the message ID different messages represent different values for one project.For example msg with ID 10 can include in the 8 bytes something like:

width: 6 bits
height: 6 bits
actpos: 12 bits
maxpos: 12 bits
minpos: 12 bits
range: 16 bits
total: 64 bits = 8 bytes

Printing the message is no big deal. But here comes the tricky part. I want to print out the specific information hidden in the 8 bytes. I can define the structures for every msg ID and compile the program with this "special" header file, but I want to do it during runtime of the program, loading the information regarding the msgs, because i can have different projects where the information for different msg IDs can differ.

I've a non-C file, where basically all the information is written. Lets stay frame named

GetStatus{
bit 0 - 7 width
bit 8 - 15 height
.
.
}
etc.

How to read it on runtime and decode the messages? On runtime I'm not able to create variables and structures anymore!

C++ :: Error Message While Debugging

Mar 17, 2013

I'm getting an error message that I can't seem to fix. The error clearly states that during the link aspect of the debugging and build there is an error that says that the stdio.h file is either missing, invalid or corrupt. When I try to program using any of the other headers I'm getting the same error. The files are there I can see them in the include folder, so I'm asking what can I do to fix all these headers and beware I am a beginner at programming and using any kind of compiler.

This is the error I receive.
1>------ Build started: Project: hello, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1123: failure during conversion to COFF: file invalid or corrupt ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped =========

This is the compiler I am required to use for an online course and all instruction is given for the Microsoft visual 2010 express edition. Also the only file I think that's being referenced is the #include <stdio.h>.

C# :: Grid Column To Always Have 0 Or Change Error Message

Jun 13, 2014

Basically I wanna make my textbox to contain only positive numbers. I was able to do that via masking and regex. I should let you know that the column is bound to a variable which is an int. Therefore, the user always have to type an int (no letters or characters). Like I said, I have been able to prevent user from typing anything but numbers.

Now to the problem:When the user leaves the cell blank and chooses to get out of that cell, they'd get "Input string was not in correct format" next to that cell.

-My approach is: whenever there is nothing in the cell, just replace it with 0. I have code that I thought will do that, but it wont. Seems like the cell was not null, because the if clause won't execute. This is the code:

private void gridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DevExpress.XtraGrid.Views.Base.CellValueChangedEventArgs e) {
GridView view = sender as GridView;
if ((view.GetRowCellValue(e.RowHandle, colPriority).ToString() == "") ) {
list.ElementAt(this.gridView1.FocusedRowHandle).priority = 0;
}
}

-Another approach is to change the display or the error message to like "Please enter a number." I have tried doing this but no luck. When I try this concept with the code below, it pops me a dialog box say "Do you wanna change the value?". I dont want it to pop up a dialog box. Also, i was looking for a message that I tried to give it. Looks like it doesn't even get in the if clause because I have checked. And its because its not null? I dont know. This is the code:

private void gridView1_ValidateRow(object sender, DevExpress.XtraGrid.Views.Base.ValidateRowEventArgs e) {
GridView view = sender as GridView;
GridColumn priority = view.Columns["Priority"];
if (view.GetRowCellValue(e.RowHandle, colPriority) == null) {
e.Valid = false;
//Set errors with specific descriptions for the columns
view.SetColumnError(colPriority, "Incorrect Value");
}
}

PS:I have checked that both of these methods get executed, so it isn't like they don't. I used some console.write stuff to check this.
