C++ :: Multimap Alphabetically Ordering With Char
Jan 18, 2015
I understand multimaps are key ordered. I have no problems with ints but when I put my char arrays in they are not alphabetically ordered. I must use char array and not <string>. Is it possible to alphabetically order them with char*
39 int c;
40 User *user;
41 char nameH[200];
42 char line[200];
43 int ageH;
44 double wH;
[code]....

I want to compare alphabetically two arrays. I try this:
char a[10] = "AABC";
char b[10] = "ZABC";
if(a > b) cout << a;
else cout << b;
But it always outputs a. How can I compare char arrays?

I am running some simulation, in which i need to control the iterator of a multimap, like
multimap<double, int> mapp;
......
int n=6;
for(int i=0; i<5; i++) {
for(auto it = mapp.begin()+i*n; it!=mapp.begin()+(i+1)*n; it++) {
......
However this way of controlling is not possible for multimap. Why and how the make it work? Do I need to overload the operator +?

I have a multimap with over 300k entries defined like so: std::multimap<std::string, std::string> filedata;
Using the following code and std::multimap::equal_range, I am able to successfully search for a word in the multimap and get needed data:
// Data with strings.
data = std::vector<std::string>();
// Get iterators to matched pairs.
std::pair <std::multimap<std::string, std::string>::iterator, std::multimap<std::string, std::string>::iterator> dat = filedata.equal_range(word);
// Go through each matched pair and get needed info.
for (std::multimap<std::string, std::string>::iterator iter = dat.first; iter != dat.second; iter++) {
data.push_back(iter->second);
}
Now, I would like to search the multimap using regular expressions (EX: std::regex("[a-z][a-e]h")). What is the fastest way to do this? Example code may look like:
std::pair <std::multimap<std::string, std::string>::iterator, std::multimap<std::string, std::string>::iterator> dat = filedata.equal_range_with_regex(std::regex("" + word + ""));. Pseudo-code / algorithms will be enough.

I have created a multimap for my road points. The key refers to the road number and the values are vec3 points that make up the road.
I am trying to iterate through the values of each key point and create a road segment at each point on the road (except the last), adjust the values to be on the road points and then store them in a std::vector.
The RoadSegment constructor creates 6 vec3 points and pushes them onto a std::vector.
I have a segmentation fault in the line marked in bold
[for(mapIt = it.first; mapIt != it.second; ++mapIt)]
When i take out the lines creating the new objects and pushing them onto the std::vector it works fine.
std::vector<glm::vec3>::iterator SegIt;
for(int i = 0; i < m_genRoads->getKeyValueData().size(); i++)
{
int numberDesired = m_genRoads->getMultimapData().count(i) - 1;

What is the correct syntax? I tried something like
Code:
class myclass {
multimap<int, void(*)()> mm_fn;
...
void afunction();
...
void anotherfunction(int anint){
mm_fn.insert(pair<int,void(*)()>(anint,afunction));
}
}
and the compiler does not like it.

So I have a map of the form:
std::map<std::string, int> m;
I want to order this by its int value, but I don't know how to write such a function. I've had two attempts thus far:
One by using std::pair, as a map consists of pairs.
bool cmp(std::pair<std::string, int> p1, std::pair<std::string, int> p2) {
return p1.second < p2.second;
}
The other by trying to use maps, which seemed off to me at first, but I still tried it out (obviously it didn't work):
bool cmp(std::map<std::string, int> m1, std::map<std::string, int> m2) {
return m1.begin()->second < m2.begin()->second;
}
How do I write a function that compares the values of a map such that I can use it to sort the map?

How would i write a functor for this code. The code is written to read data from a file and store in a multimap.
The data has numbered lines. E.g.:
1 This is a string
2 This is a string too
So the aim is to store each word in the line with the number and then to enter a word to search for the line numbers it appears on. I do not know how to go about and write a functor
#include<iostream>
#include<sstream>
#include<fstream>
#include<cstdlib>
#include<map>
using namespace std;
int main() {
multimap<int, string>myMap;
[Code] ....

Here's the objective of the program: "Instead of using ABCDEFGHIJ to order letters use DCBAJIHGF go order. The program should determine which 4-letter word is larger of two based on this new ordering system."
Not even sure how to start with this problem , how would I go about defining my own ordering system?

I have 10 or so .sql scripts (the number is likely to rise) which are required to be kept with a C# application.
For the most part the embedded resources seem to work fine , however I require a way in which to guarantee the ordering in which the files are run.
What I do currently:
Retrieve the details of the embedded resources using : Assembly.GetManifestResourceNames()
(and a bit of linq to filter based upon my requirements) which I pass to a list, I then later on use the list to grab the physical resource when its needed.
The files are named such as:
1_ScriptDescription.sql
2_ScriptDescription.sql
3_ScriptDescription.sql
10_ScriptDescription.sql <--- Here's my problem! This will come after 1_ScriptDescription.sql
Ideally I need a way in which to order the list or some kind of ordering when I pull from
Assembly.GetManifestResourceNames()
But I'm not really sure of a practical way to do this, I did consider manipulating the string .....

Basically it has to do with the byte ordering in a binary buffer vs the typing of a variable used to hold it.
To give you an example, if I have a buffer (say of indefinite length), and a ptr "ptr" pointing to a byte in the buffer (say, C0), such that if I open the buffer in a binary viewer it reads like this: Code: C0 DD FE 1F Such that this is true:
Code:
/*ptr is uint8_t*/
*ptr == 0xC0
Then I do this:
Code:
uint16_t var;
var = *(ptr+1);
I would expect the result to be:
Code: DD FE /*56830*/
Though if I print that out with:
Code:
printf("%u
", var);
It'll print:
Code: 65245 /*(FE DD)*/
Now obviously it's byte swapped, but what is causing that? I'm assuming if I just stream that out to a file byte by byte it'll be fine, so it's something with the 16 bit data type (also have seen this issue with a 32 bit data type, where all 4 are in reverse order). Is there any way to 'fix' it except bit shifts & masks?

I have an array in a class with some numbers in a specific order. Now I want to create a set with references to that array ordered after the arrays content. I thought a solution could be something like
class Holder {
int o[10]= {1,5,7,2,3,8,4,9,6,0};
public:
set<int,my_order> m_s;
Holder() {
for(int i=0; i<10;i++) {
m_s.insert(i);
[Code] ....
How to create the my_order.

Write a program that reads in a list of integers into an array with base type of int. Provide the facility to either read this array from the keyboard or from a file, at the user's option. If the user chooses file input the program should request a file name. You may assume that there are fewer than 50 entries in the array. Your program determines how many entries there are. The output is to be a two-column list. The first column is a list of the distinct array elements; the second column is the count of the number of occurrences of each element. The list should be sorted on entries in the first column, largest to smallest.
For example, for the input
-12 3 -12 4 1 1 -12 1 -1 1 2 3 4 2 3 -12
the output should be
N Count
4 2
3 3
2 2
1 4
-1 1
-12 4
Here's My code So far:
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
const int SIZE = 50;
[Code]....
My Code outputs the numbers From Largest to Smallest according to given array, but I need to make it to output the numbers once(if its repeated)

I've tried searching for answers around the web but everyone is using syntax that We haven't been taught before in class yet. I understand that the string library is probably the most efficient way of doing this but is there a way without using that library? Like using if, for, while etc. instead?
I've been told that using anything else other than the string syntax is far to complex but I think the more complex it is the more I will understand it.

I have a homework assignment in C++ where I have to: "Write a program which asks user to input 10 students names. Store them in an array. Convert all the names to UPPERCASE without using any built-in functions. You must write the function to do that yourself. Lastly, sort the name in alphabetic order."
Here is my code so far, but my program won't compile, and the message it gives me is gibberish.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void sortNames(string name[], int cap);
void toUpper(string name[]);
int minIndex(string name[], int i);
void sort(string name[]);
void swap(string name[], int i, int j);

I'm trying to arrange names alphabetically from a text file. Inside my textfile, it's like : "John", "Edward", "Peaches", "Anna"... etc.(It has thousand more names, all with quotations, separated by comma and I think it's not typed line by line... but using only one line). How can I read each name separately?
this code, it works if the text file contains names separated by lines and without commas and quotations. I do not know with the case I've stated above.
string numbers[1000];
string line;
string number;
string y;
string x;
int z = 1;
ifstream myfile;
myfile.open("names.txt");
[Code]...
This only shows the data inside text file. I'm new in c++.

A teacher has asked all her students to line up single file according to their first name. For example, in one class Amy will be in front of the line and Yolanda will be at the end.
Write a program that will read in a file of names. Names should be read until there are no more names to be read. Use LineUp.txt as a test file for your program.
Once all the names have been read in display which student will be at the front of the line and which one would be at the end of the line. You may assume that no two students have the same name.
These are the name in the LineUp.txt file if needed:
Cooper
Gavin
Joseph
Sierra
Kacie
Dylan
Kaylee
Will
and so on .....
