C++ :: Make A Sort Of Virtual Pet Game

Dec 29, 2014

I'm just playing around with C++ and I'm trying to make a sort of virtual pet game. I know its not the best looking code but I'm trying. But as of right now I'm trying to be able to animate the game a little . For example , if a user decides to "pet" their "pet" I want the pets mouth to open from '_' to ^o^ like this:

() ()
('_') -> () ()
(^o^) and switch back and forth.

Here's my code:

#include <iostream>
#include <cstring>
using namespace std;
void Greeting()

C :: How To Make A Sort Function

Feb 28, 2013

Im suppose to make a "poor mans" variation to the Sort function built into unix. The program is suppose to read in a file and sort the contents of the file. So its a variation of the Unix Sort feature. I have remade the readLine function we were provided so that it doesnt use fgets. where to go from here, Not sure on how to make a sort function. Here are the reqirements of the program:

Code:

• Re-implement the readLine() function so that it no longer makes use of fgets(). Instead,
process the input on a given line character-by-character.

• Provide code which will create a data structure similar to argv to hold all of the words to be sorted. Use malloc() to ensure that each entry has just the required number of bytes needed to store the words. The final entry in your array should be the NULL pointer.

• Implement a sort() function which will rearrange the words in sorted order. To swap two words in your array, note that only a pair of pointers need to move. The strings themselves, once established, will never move. Heres what i have:

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#define MAX_LINES 1000 /* maximum number of reminders */
#define WORD_LENGTH 10 /* max length of reminder message */

C++ :: Game Editor - How To Make A Rectangle Selection Tool

Dec 20, 2014

I'm working with a game editor program, where the player can create their own maps. Right know I'm working with collisions, and since it's unpredictable where the player place the objects like trees, houses and cars...etc have I an idea with making a rectangle selection tool. Where the player can drag a collision box around the object, so the sprite stops when it hits the box. The problem is that I dont know how to make a tool like that. so my question is how do I create a tool like that (see picture under for more information)?

btw I'm using the SDL framework

here is a picture that illustrate the tool I want to create: [URL] ....

C++ :: Tic Tac Toe Console Game - If Statement Does Not Make Correct Decision

Feb 18, 2015

I recently wrote a "Tic Tac Toe" console game, and i seem to have a problem in my winning conditions, as when it checks if the player won (should have won) it doesn't take the appropriate action.

The winning conditions are in CoreLogic.cpp

here's the code, might not be the most pretty and clean code ever but it works for me.

there are more files i just didn't feel the need to include them all since the problem is only within CoreLogic.cpp and possibly in main.cpp

pos1-pos9 have been declared in the UserInterface.cpp and are being used to determine the correct decision to do within CoreLogic.cpp

Nothing happens when you win at this point it just exits the program.

C++ :: Text Game - How To Make Player Go Back To Previous Location

Mar 19, 2013

I have started making a text adventure game.

if (Choice == 2) {
cout << "" << endl << "You follow the light to the end of the hallway, you find your self in a room" << endl
<< "with natural light coming from a hole in the ceiling." << endl << "" << endl << "You hear the door you just came through, slam behind you!" << endl << "" << endl
<< "There are three possible directions." << endl << "" << endl << "Do you:" << endl << "" << endl << "1) Go forward" << endl << "" << endl << "2) Go left" << endl

[Code] .....

Ignore the if (Choice == 2) at the beginning, that's linked to some previous code.

I want to make the player go back to the first bit of text but i'm not sure how to do this if they keep choosing to go back and forth from one location.

I first thought of doing it by just putting the text back in after they have chosen the option, but I can't do this infinite times.

C/C++ :: Make Basic Snake Game Using Command Window And Screen Refreshes?

Apr 15, 2015

I am trying to make a basic Snake game using the command window and screen refreshes. So far I have a board, snake, food, and no walls. Basically I have it so the snake moves like the traditional snake in the game, when it eats the food once it grows. However when it eats the food a second time the game crashes. I think I have narrowed the issue down to the grow array that I have (below) but I am not sure if the issue could be a result of something else.

Grow Array

cord growArray (cord *p_values, int *size)
{
*size = *size + 1;
cord *p_new_values = new cord[ *size ];

C :: Radix Sort Function To Sort Array Of 64 Bit Unsigned Integers

Aug 19, 2013

Example radix sort function to sort an array of 64 bit unsigned integers. To allow for variable bin sizes, the array is scanned one time to create a matrix of 8 histograms of 256 counts each, corresponding to the number of instances of each possible 8 bit value in the 8 bytes of each integer, and the histograms are then converted into indices by summing the histograms counts. Then a radix sort is performed using the matrix of indices, post incrementing each index as it is used.

Code:
typedef unsigned long long UI64;
typedef unsigned long long *PUI64;
PUI64 RadixSort(PUI64 pData, PUI64 pTemp, size_t count) {
size_t mIndex[8][256] = {0};
/* index matrix */

C++ :: Game Design Practice For Accessing Container Of Game Objects

Dec 21, 2014

I'm working on my first video game. So far I have a few classes in the game starting with the Game class which includes a list of GameObjects (another class). There are several classes that inherit from GameObjects used to implement things like bullets, explosions, various enemy types, etc.

The game essentially iterates through the list of GameObjects to update/render them. I would like to provide access to the Game's list of GameObjects inside another class (like the Bullet class) so I can put new objects on the list. For example, when a bullet hits, I want to add an explosion to the Game's GameObject list it can be updated/rendered.

How this should be setup? I was considering adding a pointer to the Game or GameObject list to the GameObject class (and methods to access it), but I was wondering if there is a better way to set this up?

C/C++ :: Bubble Sort And Selection Sort?

Feb 19, 2014

You will write a program that uses a multidimensional array having 3 rows and 8 columns and sorts each of the rows using both a bubble sort and a selection sort.

You must declare the array inside of main. You will have a for loop containing the calls to bubbleSort and selectionSort. You need to pass into function bubbleSort and selectionSort the following: 1) each column of the multidimensional array, 2) the size of the column, and 3) a particular row number of the multidimensional array to be used for printing out the "pass" shown on the following pages.

I keep getting an error that the identifier for bubbleSort and selectionSort is not found. (Error C3861) Also, I feel like I'm missing something in int main() to get it to sort properly.

# include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{

C++ ::  Virtual Methods With MI

Jan 6, 2014

I have questions about multiple inheritance and virtual methods. I have a class called solid. All objects of this class have hitboxes and can collide with others. I have the following methods:

void testCollision(something begin, something end);
/* This method takes a container's begin and end iterators to test if the object collides with any other object of the list of all the solids currently in the game area. Each time there is a collision, it calls collide(other) and other.collide(*this) */

virtual bool collide(solid& other);
/* This method always returns false and does nothing */

This class will be inherited by another class which will have overloads for a few specific collisions. For example:

class player : public solid{
public:
bool collide(projectile& other);
bool collide(enemy& other);
bool collide(wall& other);
};

My question is quite simple actually. If I have a loop which calls testCollision() with all elements in the list of all solids (a list of pointers to solids to be exact) and there is a collision between the player and a projectile, will testCollision call player::colide(projectile& other) or will it call solid::collide(solid& other). And in any case, did I understand how to use the virtual keyword? If I'm right, it should call the player::colide method if it's there for the specific type, else it will call the solid::colide which only returns 0, ignoring collision.

C++ :: Use Of Virtual Keyword In Destructors

Jan 6, 2014

public:
virtual ~Base()
{
cout << "Calling ~Base()" << endl;

Now this program produces the following result:

Calling ~Derived()
Calling ~Base()

i was reading online and got stuck here. i am unable to understand why 'calling ~Base()' is been printed here? when we reached delete pbase; in int main() it goes to Base class first and finds that its destructor is virtual so it goes to Derive class and finds another destructor and executes it but why does it prints ~Base() in any case?

C++ :: Using Reference With Virtual Method

Mar 19, 2013

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
struct A {
virtual void f() { cout<<"A
"; }
};

[code]...

I would expect that both examples 2 & 3 will give me the same result.I tried to figure it out but I could not. Both are references of a base class type, that get a derived object.

Q1 : why is the difference between them ?

As I see it, its kind of a mix between pointer - which in case of virtual method that was override in derived class - would give me the derived method (e.g. "B") and between regular object - which in case of virtual method that was override - would give me the specific method (Still "B"). So, example 2 "use" it as a regular object and example 3, "use" it as pointer.

Q2 : How should I refer to it ? I am using VS2008.

C++ :: Virtual Keyword In Inheritance?

Feb 19, 2014

How to put virtual keyword in the function of the base class. Will the function still be over-written properly? What will happen if I

(1) call function from base class pointer
(2) call function from derived class pointer
(3) call function from derived class object

If the virtual keyword is present, the over-written version will be called in all cases, am I mistaken?

C++ :: Why CRTP Used Instead Of Virtual Functions

Jan 31, 2014

I was reading about the CRTP, and I can't for the life of me understand it's advantages over virtual functions.

Unless you're coding embedded systems, and can't afford the few extra bytes for the vptr, or coding something requiring high-performance, where every nanosecond counts, I just don't see why the CRTP is so attractive. It just adds more text and forces every user class that wants to use the CRTP'd hierarchy to become a template class.

I tried implementing my Functor hierarchy with the CRTP instead of virtual functions...All it did was clutter my files with angle brackets and made the whole thing look very ugly.
