C++ :: Getline Function Adds Another Line To Output

Aug 10, 2014

Taken from Accelerated C++ book, I modified those code to use getline() instead of std::cin >> only to find out that the output has extra line. Why is that so?

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
int main() {
std::cout << "What is your name?" << std::endl;
std::string name;

[Code] .....

What is your name?

C++ :: Multiple Of CSV File Used As Input / Extracting Data To A Output File - Getline Function

Jun 4, 2013

I have written a C++ program I have multiple of CSV file used as input, which I open one at a time and close it after extracting data to a output file which is the only file.

I run getline(inFile,line);
outFile << line << endl;

I run this code, and only part of it is goes to the output file I got, also have spacing randomly to specific file and inconsistent

But when I slower the code, like system("Pause") in the loop, I can get extract what I want perfectly....

Is my program running to fast, why getline would be skipping part of what things I want?

C++ :: Getline Is Not Displaying In One Line

Feb 16, 2014

I used getline to import EMPLOYEE's First and Last Name from a txt file. After calculating the weights ans stuff. Now when i try to write to output txt file am having the below issue in which its not putting it in one line.

***CODE***
fout << "Note: This report for " << employee << " was prepared according to the fair practice of the University." << endl ;

***THIS IS WHAT ITS PRINTING***
Note: This report for FIRSTNAME LASTNAME was prepared according to the fair practice of the University.

I also tried like this;

***CODE***
fout << "Note: This report for " << getline(fin, employee) <<" was prepared according to the fair practice of the University." << endl ;

***THIS IS WHAT ITS PRINTING***
Note: This report for 0 was prepared according to the fair practice of the University.

this second code puts everything in one line but its showing 0 (zero) instead of the employee's first and last name.

C++ :: Using Getline Multiple Times On One Line Of Input

Sep 15, 2014

I've been stuck on this for hours, and have scoured the internet for any insight on this particular issue with no luck.

I'll simplify the problem here. I have a lines in an input file:

John Smith 1234 Main St New York
Carol Thomas 5678 5th Ave Columbus
...
and I am reading into character arrays using code like this:

infile.getline(name,20);
infile.getline(street,15);
infile.getline(city,10);

but when I print the output using something like this:

outfile << "Owner Name: " << name << endl;
outfile << "Address: " << street << city << endl;

(let's pretend I included spaces between the address components, which I omitted to save space)

I get an output file of:

Owner Name: John Smith
Address:

The output stops after the name variable, which I believe is stored correctly. I don't think anything is storing in the address pieces, this is the problem.

I think it's because I'm not using getline() properly in this case. Can you string together multiple getline()s like that?

If this was my design, I'd read in strings instead, but that is not possible in this case.

C++ :: Getline Function Does Not Seem To Activate

Feb 26, 2013

I have just started working through "Jumping into C++". I am at the section on appending strings. The tutorial mentions the getline function but I can not seem to get it to activate. There is no mention of any other inclusions.

Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;

[Code] ....

I note that the getline function color remains black while other functions are green. I presume this means that Codeblocks has not associated it with any of the listed header files. Has the tutorial omitted this detail?

C++ :: How To Use A String As Delimiter In Getline Function

Feb 4, 2014

How do I use a string in place of a character in the function getline?

For example,

getline(infile,lines,'}');

This works fine, but I want the delimiter of } to be "};", but I can't do this as it only takes in characters, not strings.

I want:

getline(infile,lines,"};");

Any way to get around this?

C++ ::  String Termination Using The Getline Function?

May 28, 2013

I came across a strange problem while writing a program using the getline function. I understand that when using the getline function an input string will terminate when the "enter" key is pressed and in the following program it works as one would suspect.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
string str;
cout << "Enter: ";
getline(cin, str);
cout << str;
}

However when I use it in this next program (below) that I have been working on it will only terminate after pressing the "enter" key if the first character is a number, otherwise it will not terminate. So the question is: How do I get it to terminate the string regardless of the input order?

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int i = 0, j;
int numValue;

[code]....

Additional Info: the purpose of this program is to change a character, which is extracted from a string, into an equivalent numerical value, if the character is an integer, and assign it to an int variable. I plan on eventually adapting it to return the correct value of a multi-character integer such as 123.

C++ :: Missing A Line From The Output?

Apr 4, 2013

I'm not too sure why I'm missing a line from the output. I've been going over my code like crazy and something seems to cause a line which would be size = 0: [nothing here] missing in my output. Here's my code:

Code: class binSTree: public binTree<T>{
public:
void insert(const T& x); //insert node with value x
bool search(const T& x); //searches leaf with value x

[Code].....

Other files are included but they are 100% correct as I used them in my past couple of assignments. The public version of remove is suppose to call the search function and determine the result of the search for a leaf with value x. Calls private remove and returns true. Otherwise it returns false if the search isn't successful.

C++ :: Output New Line Every 10 Characters

Feb 5, 2013

void printList(int list[],int cnt,int numsPerLine){
for(int i=0;i<cnt;i++){
cout<<list[i]<<" ";
if((i%numsPerLine)==0)
cout<<"
";
} }

So cnt is 20, numsPerLine is 10, and list[] is initialized with a const = 20

i%numsPerLine on the first loop equals 0 and thus outputs a new line.

I'd like it to new line after 10.

Hey I am trying to use the getline() function to read a line from a file. For some reason Visual Studio 2010 gives me the following error. "No instance of overloaded function "getline" matches the argument list". The piece of code that produces the error is in a class in a separate .h file and is executed as a method of the object. I'm almost certain it has something to do with either the compiler thinking I am calling another getline in a different namespace or my parameters for the function are incorrect. Here is the code:

I am trying to write a program that adds numbers to an array. The array capacity starts out at 2, then doubles whenever the size reaches capacity. The program works perfectly fine when the array needs to be expanded. So I have narrowed down the issues into this one function (_dynArrSetCapacity)

Creates original array
DynArr* createDynArr(int cap) {
assert(cap > 0);
DynArr *r = (DynArr *)malloc(sizeof( DynArr));
assert(r != 0);
initDynArr(r,cap);

Visual C++ :: Fstream Adds Extra Byte?

Feb 7, 2014

I've been having this odd problem when I write a file byte by byte, when I write a byte (dec)10 it adds a (dec)13 in front of it, and as far as I can tell, this is the only byte value that does this.

and most annoyingly, I can't read that (dec)13 with fstream, the only reason I know it's adds it, is because I used an external hex editor.

here is the code that causes the problem:

Code:
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{

[Code]...

but the output file reads '0D 0A' (that's in hex, '13 10' in decimal) when viewed in a hex editor. no other number (that I've tried) adds that extra 13.

C++ :: Reading Integers Out Of A Text File And Only Adds Positive Ones?

Sep 26, 2014

I'm basically trying to make a simple program that reads integers out of a text file and only adds the positive ones and not the negatives.

All is well except it won't take the last integer (the last line, I presume.) I took the negative out, nothing to do with that. I put more numbers in and I made the txt file less, no answer. No matter what the last number is, the program won't read it. I've been researching online and I've been seeing that it might be an issue with "while "!inFile.eof())".

Anyway here's the program:

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
ifstream inFile;
ofstream outFile;

[Code] .....

Here's the txt file:
5
6
-9
21
3

I'm always getting 32 for some reason.
