i have written a function that gives me the square root of a number. Yes i know there is already a function in <cmath> that gives square roots but i thought it would be pretty challenging (and therefore fun) to try writing one on my own. I wrote my code while i was in school, listening to my Irish teacher ramble on and on about useless shit, so it's probably not the best possible way of finding the square root of a number.

I am writing a program to find the square root of a number. I am using the Newton-Raphson method..Just to clarify a bit of the code.. fabs(1/(x+1)) < 0.001 is to check for relative error..

EXAMPLE: for user entry of 100 if the iteration process ends in 10.055 the answer will return as 10 which is correct. But it isn't doing that.

It compiles I then proceed to run it..prompts me "Enter a number to find the square root of: I type 100 then hit enter...

"The square root of 100 is -1077834936"

My first time writing a program from complete scratch.

And I know there is a sqrt() function...just wanted to write my own.

I'm working on a c program that generates approximations of square roots based on newton raphson method. I worked out the approximations with another method I learnt and I know this program does fine. But I don't get the concept of epsilon. Below is the code for the program

The text I worked this code from uses the epsilon value arbitrarily. how is the epsilon value selected? I tried using this formula to derive the square root of 45. On paper I can go as far as 6.8 something. But once this value is reached it's still bigger than epsilon, so shouldn't the code keep running? The program generates 1.41 for 2, but since it could go further why does the while loop in squareRoot function terminate?

I'm doing right now is creating a function that callocs (I prefer this to malloc) and returns a string, and it will work similar to printf, I'm calling the function alloCpy(),I have several values that I need in a malloced string, so I call Code: myAllocedString = alloCpy("Value 1 is %s, value 2 is %s, and value 3 is %d", str1, str2, num); To do this I'm using the Variadic Macro, the reason I'm not just using a Variadic Function such as this: Code: char* alloCpy(char *format, ...) {} is because I need to append NULL to the end for the sake of looping through arguments, and I'm understanding it thusfar, but I have a few issues, first of all, I tried defining the Macro in a header file, but when I try to call it I get the error "Undefined reference to alloCpy". Also, to loop through arguments to get string lengths I'm using va_arg(args, char*) which requires all the arguments to be of type char*. Here is my code:

I am able to display a filled and hollow square by themselves, but I can't seem to be able to get them side by side.

I can get the hollow square to show up, but the first square just shows up as a single line instead of a square. It seems that it ignores the first if statement in the second loop. I've tried not using an if statement in the second loop but it didn't seem to work either.

Try not to make too much fun of me for my logic, but I'm having trouble with this. I am trying to make it so the program takes a 1 dimensional array and a 2 dimensional array, and checks to see what row in the 2 dimensional array is the closest to the 1D array.

To compute the value of the 1D array you take the first row first element in the 2D array, and the first element in the 1D array, subtract and the absolute value.

Example: | 4 - 3 | = 1;
1Darray = 1.

Full 1 Dimensional Array:
3 1 6 9

Full 2 Dimensional Array:
4 9 1 5
6 1 7 3
0 8 2 6

To compute the value of the first row in the 2D array,
| 4 - 3 | + | 9 - 1 | + | 1 - 6 | + | 5 - 9 | = 18.
| 6 - 3 | + | 1 - 1 | + | 7 - 6 | + | 3 - 9 | = 10.
| 0 - 3 | + | 8 - 1 | + | 2 - 6 | + | 6 - 9 | = 17.

Thus row 1 being the closest row to the 1 dimensional array.

after staring at this for awhile, I can't figure out why it won't work. It prints out numbers from 0 to 100, but will print out an absurdly high number as the highest number, like 790 or 640. I can't see why.

I'm supposed to find the biggest number (largest value), in any given array A with n numbers. (no floats)

My thoughts here are, check if A[0] > A[1]. if yes, check if A[0] > A[2]. If no, check if A[1] > A[2] etc.

I'm not sure how I can do this in code. I'm thinking if A[0] > A[1] is true, then set A[0] = A[k]. Kind of set it aside, and use that for the next if test. But I'm not sure how to do it.
