C++ :: Find Greatest Difference Between Two Consecutive Elements Stored In Array
Mar 31, 2013
Develop a function that finds the greatest difference between two consecutive elements stored in an array. Develop a 9 element array of doubles to test your code. Print to the screen which two numbers have the greatest difference as well as the value of the difference. Finally include an overloaded version of the function that will work if the array is composed of integers. Include your code used to test this function.

I have just started learning C language, I have read that array name is the pointer to the first element of array.
So,technically both a and a[0] should have different memory address and a should hold address of a[0],
But when I declare an array and print the address:
int a[5]={2,4,6,8,10};
printf("The address of a and a[0] are &d and %d",&a,&a[0]);
Output is: The address of a and a[0] are 2358832 and 2358832
Why I am getting the same result, shouldn't I be getting different memory address for both a and a[0].

I'm trying to write a simple program that finds the minimum difference between two pairs of integers in a list/array. Of no surprise, it not work the first time I ran it so naturally i chucked in a whole bunch of print statements to debug
I encountered a peculiar error that is really stumping me.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int closest_pair(int arr[]) {
int i=0;
int j=0;
int size=0;
int min=0;
[Code] .....
OUTPUT:
size_main: 20
arr_main: 80
arr[0]_main: 4
size: 2
arr: 8
arr[0]: 4
0: 34
1: -12
2: 18
3: 61
19: 75
closest_pair: 0
I'm printing the size of the array in main and inside the function...and inside the function its giving me a size = 2 which is incorrect though the size printed in main is correct (size = 20). I further narrowed down the discrepancy to this statement: sizeof(arr)

I need to create a program that will find the total of all the elements in array. I need to use for loop and the array size is 10.The output should be like this: i used user input
Input array 0 : 2
Input array 1 : 4
Input array 2 : 6
Input array 3 : 7
Input array 4 : 8
Input array 5 : 9
Input array 6 : 10
Input array 7 : 12
Input array 8 : 16
Input array 9 : 20
Sum of 10 numbers in an array is = 94..Press any key to continue..I have a code but the output is not like that. Here is the code,
// Program to store 10 integers array
#include <iostream>
#include <stdio.h>
using namespace std;
int getArray(int x[]);

I would like to know the algorithm or flow for finding unequal elements in an array entered by user. I tried using for loop but didn't get the expected output
Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int a[10],b[10]; //array of integer elements

Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<string.h>
typedef struct test
{
char a[5];
char b[10];
}t;
[Code] ....
In Unix (HP-UX) and Linux, the output of above program will be:
t.a=Helloworld!
Instead of the value of t.a ,i.e, "Hello" only.
Why such output? And what is the trick here to print the only value of t.a.

The program need to find mean of elements in columns which are divided by 3. And to print which colmn has the greater mean
Example
For matrix:
7 9 5
17 15 30
29 34 60
Program print: 0 12 45. The greater mean: 3 column.
I wrote this code and it prints 0 12 45 idk how to find which column has greater mean?
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#define max 50
int main()
{int n,m,i,j,k,d,br=0,suma;
int a[max][max];
int b[max][max];

I have a function where i declared the number of elements in a vector alocated dynamically which returns the vector to the main function. The problem is how can i find the number of elements in main function? I tried length = sizeof(a) / sizeof(int) which gives me the same value, the value of the first element. Here's the code:
int* functie2 (void)
{
int* p;
int c,i;
printf("number of elements: ");
scanf("%d",&c);
[Code]...
I know i could first read the value of c in main and then pass it thorugh parameter, but how can i do it the other way arround?I could also send the value of c allocating one more int value to the vector, but i don't want doing so.
Where's the edit button?

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
void main() {
char data_a[6],data_b[6]="ABcde",*ptr;

I want to declare a char* array, and then make any future variables declared to be stored in a specific location within the char* array. Is this even possible, and if it is how would I go about doing it (I plan on storing any primitive data type in it (no classes or structs), and they may signed or unsigned). I want to be able to use the variables like any other variable, I just want the variable's address to be within the char* array.
I am trying to make a program that is similar to a virtual machine and an emulator put together, and it can only run one os (which will be hard-coded into to the program). The reason I wanted to do this is because it would be the easiest way to make sure that all variables in memory are in one contiguous block, that way the part that manages memory wouldn't have to store the locations of each variable (which would have been necessary for the virtual memory manager).
An example of what I am wanting to do is
char* ram [256]; // Address 0x00 to 0xff
// Code to make sure that new variables' addresses are in ram[] if necessary
unsigned short a = 5; // Gets stored at address 0x00
unsigned int b = a; // Gets stored at address 0x00+sizeof(a)

I have an array of groups of numbers (I call them classes), that might look like this:
Code: static const int arr[] = {1,1,3,3};
std::vector<int> classes( arr , arr + sizeof(arr) / sizeof( arr[ 0 ] ) );
or like this
Code: static const int arr[] = {1,3,3,3,5,5,6,8};
std::vector<int> classes( arr , arr + sizeof(arr) / sizeof( arr[ 0 ] ) );
The groups of numbers are in an increasing order, but not numbered consecutively. So, would I would like to have is this
1,1,2,2
and
1,2,2,2,3,3,4,5
A loop like this
Code: for ( int i = 1; i < classes.size(); i++ )
if ( classes.at( i ) > classes.at( i - 1 ) )
classes.at( i ) = classes.at( i - 1 ) + 1;
does not work, because it changes the preceding value in the group, thus destroying the group. How would you do it?

So I have an issue with a homework assignment that I am coding. I am attempting to get a function to iterate through an array and search for a number that was stored in an array by the user. So far I can take the number, get the numbers displayed but in my menuChoice2 function, for some reason the program is not confirming whether or not the number is entered, and is only telling me that the number has not been found, instead of confirming that the number is in the array.
Here is my code thusfar:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdbool.h>
// Variables that are Globally declared
int menuChoice = 0;
int usernum[1000] = { ' ' };
[Code] .....
To be clear I am not getting any errors but something is telling me that the error is in the formatting of menuChoice2.

So I have a text file named test.txt on the root of my c:/drive.
I finally managed to arrays working and reading into them, but when I started looking at the data in the array I noticed that stringstream was not "grabbing" a specified space. LINES 83-88
The text file contains the following (note that there is an intentional space after the first word):
I ' m s o r 0 y 4 D a v e , 5 12 12 12 3 7 f 11 2 i d 5 8 1 c 5 n 10 t 5 7 17 2 3 h 7 2 .
I need that space to be caught in the steam, there will always be only one space after a various first word, but I need it in my array and stringstream doesn't catch it.
if you need to run it, just copy the text to a file named c:/test.txt
When you run the code, you will see after the 3rd iteration it skips the space, is there a way to change this, so I can focus on the decryption algorithm??
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <vector>
#include <string>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <sstream>
#include <cctype>
bool is_number(const std::string& s){
std::string::const_iterator it = s.begin();

I am trying to overlay an image on a live video.I have used alpha blending method to overlay image on the video. On overlaying the image, it gets overlayed five times rather than one as expected.
Both frame data and the image data is taken as BYTE* for overlaying and displaying it.
The image used is a bitmap image.
The data (BYTE*) of both the video and the image is overlayed and the resultant is stored back in the variable of the video and den drawn on the picture control of vc++.
The video resolution is 640x480.
The image I m overlaying is 128x128.
The IDE used is visual studio professional.The code is developed using c++.
How do I overlay the bitmap image as a single image on the live video at a specific position.

Write a C++ program to estimate the springtime count of deer in a park for 10 consecutive years. The population of any given year depends on the previous year's population according to the following calculation:
• If the lowest winter temperature was less than 0 degrees, the deer population drops by 15%.
• If the lowest winter temperature was between 0 degrees F and 25 degrees F (inclusive), the deer population drops by 10%.
• If the lowest winter temperature was between 26 degrees F and 30 degrees F (inclusive), the deer population doesn’t change.
• If the lowest winter temperature was between 31 degrees F and 35 degrees F (inclusive), the deer population rises by 12%.
• If the lowest winter temperature was higher than 35 degrees F, the deer population rises by 14%.
I have started with:
#include <iostream>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string>

Goal: Write a program that compares the values stored in the first array to the user inputted values in the second array.
In order to fix this error: [URL]...
I had to change my array initialization to one with a star in front of it:
char a1[]={"a","d","b","b","c","b","a","b","c","d","a","c","d","b","d","c","c","a","d","b"};
to:
char *a1[]={"a","d","b","b","c","b","a","b","c","d","a","c","d","b","d","c","c","a","d","b"};
I also changed my 2nd array to one with a star in front of it: char *a2[20];
What does this mean exactly? Putting a star in front of an array?
Also, I am now getting an "unhandled exception" when I try to get input for my 2nd array:
cin>>a2[i];
