I've found that with streamwriter(sw) the data isn't displayed with the written to document until you either leave scope or use sw.close I'd prefer to keep sw open as I will be writing to the file in and out, sometimes very frequently, but would also prefer the data to be viewed in real time. Is there an efficient way of going about this?

I am trying to write a client/server application that takes input to an array of structures from the user,stores the data in a shared memory segment and then writes the same to a file when I close the application. How do I get started? And how do I ensure that the server stores the data correctly? Also, the server needs to be a concurrent server that accepts connections from multiple clients.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to complete this program and as far as I am aware, the only thing not working correctly is populating the listview with my data. I've been stressing over this for a few days and achieving no success. I have to load data from two text files (incidents.txt and technicians.txt), then use a query to populate a listview with all incidents that have been closed. Also, I have to use LINQ for this assignment, so I cannot change anything that would alter my use of that. I'm thinking that perhaps the problem is with my code in form1.cs?Included are all my classes,txt files, etc.

I'm working on an app which monitors user selected data sets from various devices, and I'd like to display the data in a CListCtrl. This would be very convenient, but I'm just a little concerned about (1) just how fast can a CListCtrl be populated, and (2) how can i reduce or eliminate screen flicker. To be specific...
1. There will likely be upwards of 100 rows of data, maybe more (probably 5 or 6 columns), and I'm going to have to refresh it all as quickly as possible, perhaps as fast as once per second. I can play games and only refresh a visible rectangle, but how responsive the control would be, having all that data deleted and refreshed continually?
2. You can see why I'd be worried about screen flicker, and I thought I'd likely have to make two identical overlapped controls so I could double buffer as I would with a graphic animation, switching the visibility of one or another control after its updated to give the appearance of sudden complete updates. BUT... I see there is an extended style you can set called "LVS_EX_DOUBLEBUFFER"

I have a program I have been working on where the user selects a date and enters the number of days to be viewed in the Calendar.cshtml view. This input renders another view (Update.cshtml) that contains two date picker boxes, one that should contain the selected date and the second one that should contain the calculated date. I am having an issue getting the date selected in the first view to populate to the first date block on the second view as the default and getting the calculated date to populate the second date block in the Update.cshtml view. In addition given the two dates, I would like to generate a calendar, which is why I chose the date picker approach and setting static dates.

I have the following code to write to an error log that I send to a client. It correctly logs all of the errors but for some reason it produces it all out on 1 line and it's not removing the last comma. You can see on line 14 I am calling writeline instead of write and I'm passing a false to the formatAsQCD method that should cause it not to place the comma.

I am currently working on a small project, which is an ATM simulator but, lately, I've been stuck in a part where I have to overwrite a specific line in a .dat file to update the account's checking and savings balance, once the transaction has been done. I have to use StreamReader and StreamWriter to complete the task and I have also being told to try Collections... which I'm not sure as to why.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am trying to switch between 2 states, and the event that determines which state i am in is based on the key i've pressed. So in this case i want the webcam to start automatically, and when key is pressed it then turns it off. The way I've done it is like this :

The problem with this method is that cin.get() blocks the video stream.. I wanted something that the webcam turned on until i press some key, which would trigger the release.. How can this be done?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using windows forms and I have a parent dialog box that consists of a text box and a drop-down that launches a child dialog box. The child takes user input and then prints dialog to the text box in the parent. However, the output does not appear in the text box until I close the child.
Now my question is, how do I get the text to appear without closing the child? I hit a button to send the info to the text box, but it still doesn't appear until the child closes. I also need to set up a button to suspend the child so that the user can click/copy/etc the parent.
I have created a MFC dialog based application. Now I want to implement such a functionailty that I will be closing my application through command prompt. And while closing of my application the ExitInstance() method of my application should get called. What is the command which I should put in the command prompt to close my application in such a way.

It is completed today and is going to be applied to startup programs of domain machines. It runs at logon and takes somewhat 5-10 seconds to finish execution. The output is shown on console screen & user can either close the window by clicking on 'x' or pressing 'Ctrl+c' during execution. How do i prevent both of these events?
Basically the most time consuming processes are

I then filter out data & print required information only.
Right after I close FIFO on the producer side, the app on the consumer side gets into an endless loop. select() returns that FIFO is ready to read. Below is the excerpt from the consumer code. The FIFO is opened "blocking" on both ends.

I'm taking an operating systems class and I'm trying to write a script that would execute a program in Simple OS.I"m not sure if this is the right place for this because although the entire OS is written in C, "asm" are assembly language code. Anyway when I run the OS in virutal box and try to run a program, I get a "Fatal Execption" in a loop until the entire OS crashes. So then I try to debug my code BUT when I add printf statements and try to run the code again I don't get to the "fatal execption" and the entire OS just crashes. 1) why can't I add print lines? 2) what's going on with the fatal execption?

I have an C++ application which uses Microsoft Web browser ActiveX control to launch any URL within the application. The browser is embedded in C++ form and It's working fine with all the feature Microsoft has exposed through Interface(IID_IWebBrowser2).But while any url that is using session cookie has been launched, even after closing the browser the session cookies are not getting deleted. For example if user login info is stored as session cookies,the url is using the cookies and getting launched without asking for user log in info.
But if I close the browser, and again relaunch , the cookies should be deleted and the url will not find the cookies to be used for log in . That is not happening here. Although this is session cookies , it's not getting deleted and being used by embedded browser. However, if the url is launched in IE, it is behaving as expected.
So, Do I need to delete the cookies explicitly? If Yes, How to do that?
Here is a working C++ program and its output that reads the names of a certain number of functions whose names are written in a disk file that provides the control parameters in a near-real time fashion. Based on this information, the program calls those functions whose names were given in this text file as parameters. The method I have used is to build a map of functions that connects the names of the functions to the actual functions. Once this map is created, then it is very easy to iterate in such a way that only those selected functions are called.
So far this is working well, and it makes the logic of the code easier because ultimately there will be a large inventory of functions (probably hundreds of functions), and this way of pre-building a map of functions avoids writing hundreds of if statements in the code. Of course, pre-building this reusable map in the background is still equivalent to writing that many if statements, but at least it makes the code very compact and much more automatic, since it is done only once.
But I now have a related question: In this case (when the selected subset of functions to call is given as incoming data as in this example), does C++ make it possible to avoid using maps of functions, by directly applying the string variable that holds the name of the function in order to call the original function immediately For instance, if a string variable s = "MyFunction", then is there a more direct way of using this string as if it were the actual function whose name is spelled exactly in that way? This would make the code even more compact.
