C++ :: Data Structure - Program Using Stacks

Nov 3, 2013

Given a set of different types of paired symbols; determine whether it is balanced or not (the opening and closing version of each type are paired correctly). Any other type of characters may appear in the input will be neglected.

For example:
(**(*[*])****) is balanced, also [{}**[]**()]** is balanced. But ((*{*)*}) is unbalanced as well as [()***[]***{*(*)}.

Write a C++ program that requires a string containing and expression as an input from the user and check for balanced bracket pairs using stack data structure.

Here is my code which give me nothing when I run it.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
class CustomStack {

C/C++ :: Intuitive Data Structure To Use For Memory Management Program

Mar 21, 2014

I have an assignment that wants me to better understand how certain calls like malloc() and free() work. I'm supposed to have one function that allocates a pool of memory for the program to use (this is the only place where I'm allowed to use the malloc function. Anyplace else is off limits, except when allocating space for data structures.) Another function needs to be defined that allocates memory from this large pool of memory that we have already allocated. A third function needs to free a block of memory when a call from function main is made and a fourth does something else (haven't gotten that far yet.) I'm not sure if it's ok or not, but I'll attach the pdf form that describes all the requirements. If that's not ok, I'll delete it.)

Anyways, when thinking of data structures to use for this particular problem, one doesn't jump out at me as being THE data structure that would be most useful. How I would imagine using it is to store the addresses currently being used as well as the block length of those addresses (so basically, each node of the linkedlist would have a pointer that points to an allocated address and another field that told the size of the allocated block of memory.) How to communicate to the large pool of memory that a certain block of memory has been allocated and shouldn't be used until a free is made on that specific block of memory.

C/C++ :: Program That Reads Data From A Text Document And Allows To Modify

Apr 30, 2015

I'm trying to make a program that reads data from a text document and allows me to modify it. I am stuck with the display() function. I can get the printf statement to display all my array values except the char AD value. When I include flight[i].AD it causes the program to crash. When I run the program to only display the AD variable I get a bunch of weird symbols. I'm not sure where the program is going wrong because it seems to be storing values properly except for the AD variable.

#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
//named constants
const int MAX=100; //maximum flights
const int SIZE=20; //maximum characters

char name[SIZE];

C :: Program That Grades A True / False Quiz - Data Available In Text File

Oct 14, 2014

You are to write a C program that grades a true-false quiz. The quiz data will be available in a text file; here is an example:

Quiz #8 (09/22/14) (corrected version)
TTFTTFTFTF
0080 TTFTTFTFTF
0340 TTFTFFTFTF

The first line in the data file is a comment that you may assume can be up to 80 charac- ters long; it cannot be blank. The second line contains the answer key for the 10-question true-false quiz. The following lines in the data file contain a student's id number in column 1 followed by their answers for the quiz in column 2. A 0 (zero) on a line by itself indicates that there are no more students to process.

Write a program that first reads in (from standard input; more on this in a moment) the comment line and answer key as strings followed by each student's data. Store the student's id numbers in an array. You are to "grade" each student's quiz using the key provided fol- lowed by recording their scores (in a second array) in order to be able to print them out later. You do not need to use an array of strings or characters in your program. Write your program allowing for up to 100 students, and you may assume that at least 1 student will have taken the quiz.

You should create test data text files and provide the data to your program using redirection from the command line (see the sample run below). Your program should output the number of students who took the quiz, the average score, the best score, and a table showing each student's id, score, and grade. The formatting, spacing, and labels in your output should 1 match the sample run below exactly.

Your program should determine each student's grade as follows: if the score is equal to the best score b or b−1, give an A. If it is b−2, award a B. Give C's for any score that is equal to b−3 or b−4, a D for b−5 and an F for all others.

Alright So I'm just stuck at comparing the key answer with student answer here is my code comparing one student's answer with the answer key . is that right ?? One more thing for some reason when i try to print answer[0] the result is nothing why is that

Code:
#include<stdio.h>
int main(void) {
char comment[80];
char answer [10];
char studentans [10];
int n=0,i=0,x=0;
int ID[10];

C++ :: Asymmetric Data Structure

Mar 18, 2013

I am trying to create an structure of data with following elements:

struct stest {
std::vector<int> na;
std::vector<double> nb;
std::vector<double> va;
std::vector<double> vb;
std::vector<double> vc;
std::vector<double> vd;
}

I would like to modify the composition of this struct, so that I can create a special data structure by

vector<stest*> data_test;
for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
data_test.push_Back(new stest);

within this structure, I have: only one na and one nb, but ten groups of combination of va, vb, vc, vd that I can access by pointer, which means na, nb are independent but still inside of the structure.

C++ :: Two Dimensional Map - Data Structure

Apr 4, 2013

I'm currently having the following data structure:

typedef struct {
int a;
int b;
} S;
<vector <vector<S> > v;

Now I also have different pointers that can be set in connection with one instance of the above shown vector. Therefore I was attempting to work with a map:

map<p*, <vector<vector <S> >, vector<sI> > m;

However, it seems like it doesn't work that way. Therefore I tried the following:

map<p*, map<<vector<vector <S> >, vector<S> > > m2;

With this attempt I do now, however, get another mistake here, that [] cannot be used here:

S s;
m2[p][0].push_back(s);

C++ :: What Data Structure Does A Vector Use

Dec 14, 2013

Does it use Linked List or Dynamic Array?

I want to know this because if I happen to want to use a lot of insertions and deletions then it is more efficient to make use of Linked List instead of Dynamic Array.

While, if I happen to want to just access random parts of the Array, then Dynamic would be more efficient.

I want to make a 2D game using SDL engine and I need to check whether or not an object is colliding with a list of other objects. (because there would be more then one objects on the map.)

Since I would simply be accessing each object sequentially to check whether or not the object is colliding with another the object in question, and since any of those objects could "die" and be deleted at any time, it makes more sense to use Linked List then a Dynamic Array.

C :: How To Do Arithmetic On Structure Members Read From A Text File

May 19, 2014

I am trying to use arithmetic on structure members read from separate text files into separate functions. I'm trying to do the math in the main function after calling the other two functions. I'm trying to divide nato_attack by pact_defence.

The warning I'm getting is: both are being used uninitialized in this function.

The goal is to read/write the info in the text files and to use them as any other variable, i.e. add, subtract, etc. in other locations in my code, i.e. functions, modules.

I "borrowed" most of this code from a youtube lesson and modified it for my needs.

Below is the contents of the two text files and my code.

This is for NATO

C/C++ :: How To Structure And Write A Class For Text File Streams

Apr 20, 2014

I need to make a program which reads multiple lines from a text file and stores that information in a vector of structs(the vector class template also needs to be custom made).

One of my requirements is to have a class dedicated for I/O for the text file. At the moment I can't seem to get a way to input the data from a file into a vector from an InputOutput class. This is my code:

InputOutput.h

#include <ostream>
#include <fstream>
#include "Share.h"
#include <string>
#include "Vector.h"
class InputOutput {

[Code] ....

This is the menu selection function in the menu.cpp where i figured i would call the Input file and store it from case 1. I think I'm doing it wrong though. Is there a better way of doing this because at the moment i am getting some errors such as error LNK2019.

void Menu::UserMenuSelection() {
Vector<Share> shares;
std::ifstream infile;
switch (menuOption) {

C/C++ :: How To Assign Values From Text File To Structure Of Arrays

Sep 5, 2014

have to do an election program in C.

There are 7 candidates and 365 votes in total. I need to do this using an array of structures. I need to read from a text file each of the names of the candidate and the number of votes they get. At the end i need to output the winner of the election.

Here is a sample of my code so far

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
struct candidates {
char name[20];
int votes;

[code]....

Here is a sample of my text file:

Robert Bloom
John Brown
Michelle Dawn
Michael Hall
Sean O’Rielly
Arthur Smith
Carl White

1 2 4 5 1 2 3 4 4 1 2 3 7 4 4 5 3 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7

Each candidate gets +1 vote for their number electionCandidate[0] for each one he gets one vote and so on for the rest. 365 voters in total.

I was able to input the name for each Candidate from the text file. Now the problem is putting each vote to the corresponding candidate. Also any vote that is above 7 is a spoilt vote which i am trying to count in the above code. The code compiles but it crashes.

I am using while(!feof) but it seems that its not working or this is not the correct way.

My problem is that i want to create a 2D array of that data for example if i write data[j][i].. It will give me the reference/value of all data lines that belongs to j column, and same with group_id[j][i]. I don't know how i can store these structure vaules in this like 2D array.

C++ :: Corporate Data Sales Structure

Nov 20, 2013

Corporate Data Sales

Write a program that uses a structure named CorpData to store the following information on a company division.

Division Name(North, South, East, Or West)
First quarter sales
Second quarter sales
Third quarter sales
Fourth quarter sales
Total annual sales
Average quarter sales

Include a constructor that allows the division name and four quarterly sales amounts to be specified at the time a CorpData variable is created.

The program should create four variables of this structure, each representing one of the following corporate divisions: North, South, East and West. Each variable should be passed in turn to a function that calculates and stores the total annual sales and average sales for that division.

Once this has been done for each division, each variable should be passed in turn to a function that displays the division name, total sales, and average sales.

Here is my code:

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
