I am working on a program which uses external hardware to acquire data. we have the option to use hardware from two different companies, each with it's own driver. However both do the same job. My program is meant to read data packets which are structured as:

typedef struct _data {
DWORD ID;
BYTE bf;
BYTE bd;
BYTE bData[8];
DWORD bt;
} data;

Now both the companis use the same data structure, but the first has defined the structure, let's say, as:

typedef struct _dataX {
DWORD ID_X;
BYTE bf_X;
BYTE bd_X_;
BYTE bData_X[8];
DWORD bt_X;
} dataX;

I am programming my software so as t allow the customer to use the hardware of their choice. Simply select the card they are using and our program should be able to take care of the rest of stuff. I am using #ifdef directives to include the header for the corresponding hardware dll. Now I want to define my own data struct of the type:

typedef struct _dataMY
{
DWORD ID_MY;
BYTE bf_MY;
BYTE bd_MY_;
BYTE bData_MY[8];
DWORD bt_MY;
}

and when I use _dataMY.ID_MY .. it should directly be able to see if it is _dataX.ID_X or _dataY.ID_Y, based upon the directive I have used earlier.

I have a class A, from which three classes Aa Ab and Ac are inherited. In class A I have defined some functions by virtual foo()=0, which I implemented in each subclass. Each class is written in a separated .h and .cpp file.

However, now I think it is possible to overload the operator+ INSIDE each class (including pure virtual in class A), such that something like

int main() {
A *value = new Aa();
A value2 = *value + 1.0f;
}

This should be realizable, because the operator+ is part of the Aa class. Now, I would like to do something like

int main() {
A *value = new Aa();
A value2 = 1.0f + *value;
}

This time, I expect I cannot overwrite the operator+, because it is not part of either class A or class Aa.

Is it possible to do something like this:

Where the child member function overrides and changes the parents member function.

I need to pass an array of key states to the Controller class' Update() function but don't want to send it to every class derived from Object (like Controller).

Is this possible or do I have to overload the original Update() member function (but I would need to define the method in Object then (i.e remove the pure virtual function (=0)))

So i am having troubles with operator overloading in inherited class. Basically, it doesnt work. Consider this:

Some how the copy constructor of a is improperly executed - the pointer is copied over, not re-created. As a result, the destructors crashes due to double-free.

Above code shows the problem well. The "official" copy-constructor wont work - it copies over the pointer directly, and doesnt create a new one as it should. However, if i provide my own pseudo-copy-constructor that works. But ofcourse it's just a cheap work around - and wont actually work in real code (STL).

compiler is VS2008SP1.

I have a vector under protected in my base class, and when I access it from my derived classes it's okay, but each one has its own value. How can I set them all to have the same value?

Here every time I run it, it goes straight to the `else` and it displays that I do not have any items. I want to just have one vector for both my bow and Sword shops because vectors take up a lot of memory and my teacher said keep them to a minimum. So I just want one vector that takes in items from my bow class as well as my sword class, but for some reason it's acting as if I have multiple vectors, each with its own set of items.

I need to create a GlobalConfig class. But I want to derive from it in another class.

Here's an example:

 public string pathB {get; set;}

The idea behind is that I don't want to write the code multiple times and what's more important in class ConfigA I want to set GlobalPath and have access to it in ConfigB.

In other word I want class ConfigB to have a property GlobalPath which was set in class ConfigA.

To clarify I want to have only one object of Config in memory.

When I set BaseConf.GlobalPath to 'A', I want to access it from ConfigB.GlobalPath and also get 'A'.

I always design GlobalConfig as a static class, but static classes can't be inherited. So I tried to implement Singleton Pattern, but ConfigA can't find constructor of class BaseConfig because it's private.

I have a function:

and I want to be able to simplify calls to 'a' with calls like

a(someIteratableContainer);

instead of having to call:

a(someIteratableContainer.begin(), someIteratableContainer.end(), valueOfTheContainersElementType);

I also want to be able to generalize the function to handle any of the standard iteratable contains: array, vector, deque, whatever.

I was under the impression I could write:

template<template<class T> class U> a(U<T>& container) {
a(container.begin(), container.end(), g(T()));
}

where 'g()' returns an object of the element type. However, the compiler is claiming, no matter how I write a call to the overload, the original template is selected and/or the overload is invalid, depending on the various ways I attempt to write said overload.

I have tried several variants on this code to no avail. Outer is in a header, along with the extern template statements, and the specializations after main are in their own cpp file. Main is in a different cpp file.

What do have to do to make this work? I cannot bring the definitions of f() into the header, and they will be different for different template parameters. Ideally, I want Test to remain a private member of Outer, though this can change if it's the only option.

I have been trying to get a hang on templates. I have the two following functions that that could be consolidated in a single template function:

NotesController and FamiliesController have the same parent. The thing that I'm trying to grasp with templates is that is could something like:

center.y = ofGetHeight()/3;
attractorCounter = _counter;

And then have another template function declaration for all the attractor functions where I pass the same template value as in the first one.

As you can see, I'm calling another functions inside called attractors(_tmp). I know that one way around it could be to get rid of that function and just do all the logic inside of each if statement. Is there any way to pass the same template function parameter within a template function parameter?
