C++ :: How To Store The Same Instance Of One Object In Multiple Vectors

Feb 4, 2015

If I have a class object and multiple vectors, how do I make sure I store the same instance of that object in both vectors? For instance:

Object object;
std::vector<Object> vectorOne;
std::vector<Object> vectorTwo;
vectorOne.push_back(object);
vectorTwo.push_back(object);

Are the objects in both vectors the same instance of the object? Like if I called vectorOne[0].setValue(somethingDifferent); would the value be changed for the object in both vectorOne and vectorTwo? If not, how do I make sure that I only have one instance of the object I'm trying to store in multiple vectors?

C++ :: How To Pass Same Instance Of Object In Two Functions

Feb 25, 2014

I need to send same instance of object of a class in two function (Main function and thread function). The class is something like this:

//The class need to have constructor.
Class ABC {
public:
DWORD *IdG;
ABC(int number) {
IdG = new DWORD[number];
}
}obj(32);

The obj(32) is called in following two function. Function F1 is called using thread in main function.

void F1() {
obj.test;
}
int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nShowCmd) {
obj.test1;
_beginthread(F1,0,(void*)number);
}

The code works well when the object of class ABC is created as shown above. My problem is the value that is passed in the object ('32') is to be read from the file.

If I read the file and create object separately in Main function and function 'F1' then , function 'F1' is not executed.

How to create same instance of object for Main function and function 'F1' with value passed in the object taken from the file.

C++ :: Design ID To Store Vectors For CAD Program?

Mar 3, 2012

Let's say we have entities like lines and circles. And each entity can have a pen attached. And a pen is a color and line width. All entities needs to be manipulated through a operations interface. All entities added to the program needs to be added through using a factory pattern.

So we end up something like (pseudo code)

class Line // for immutable objects {
..
..
} class MutableLine extends Line //for mutable lines {
} MutableLine line=factory->newLine(20,20,50,50); // Create a new line entity

[code]....

So, essentially I want no code to be able to operate directory on entities, unless during creation of the object (color, layer, line width etc...) so I am planning to create Mutable versions of all entities besides the immutable versions.

When requested for selected entities or all entities, I am planning to return a list of immutable objects and in fact I am planning to return a new copy so it's not possible to operate on anything directly.

The reason is that I am planning to create different storage backends swell, so I can operate on entities in a database, or shared memory... stuff like that. At least to hide the internals and provide a stable API.

My questions are:

How can I make sure that people don't do 'tricks' casts for example to a mutable version to change objects directly?

Jan 15, 2015

}

And then I have an Assembly object, loaded from a dll that is not referenced in project, but rather loaded during run-time, containing:

public class Tester : Module

public static string type = "Test";
public override void doSomething() {
//Stuff being done

}
}

How can I get the value of "type" in the class that is loaded during runtime? How do I use the "doSomething" method of it and get the returned object?

C# :: Rain Application - Object Reference Not Set To Instance Of Obj

Mar 2, 2014

I'm trying to make a "Rain" application, by drawing some lines on the form, and then they must fall. So here is my start code:

public partial class Form1 : Form {
public Form1() {
InitializeComponent();
}
Random r = new Random();
Graphics paper;
Line line;

[Code] ....

So when I start debugging I get the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error. If I remove the comments lines at "timer1_Tick" this error doesn't appear of course. What can I do to escape from this because it follows me everywhere I go />. I tried to make with arrays, but same problem.

C# :: Object Instance Not Retaining Field Values

Jun 13, 2014

I have this class:

class Excuse
{...
public string Description { get; set; }
public string Results { get; set; }
public DateTime LastUsed { get; set; }
public string ExcusePath { get; set; }
....}

[Code] ...

When I run it, I do get the messagebox popping up with the correct description, but then nothing happens. When I debug, I see the fields under the UpdateForm() method are set to null.

I'm guessing this happening because it is looking at the 'currentExcuse' that was declared in the form body. I thought however that redeclaring 'currentExcuse' in the method would overwrite this instance or am I wrong?

Do I need an array to make this work?

C++ :: How To Scan Multiple Vectors For Common Elements Efficiently

Nov 6, 2013

we conform to the ISO C standard and this snippet of code : Code: vector<tree*> *leaves = new vector<tree*>[num_threads]; where num_threads is specified from command line arguments so not dynamically allocating it violates the standard.

Let's also assume num_threads is greater than one.

What I want to do is scan each vector in leaves for duplicates. If any two vectors in the set have matching addresses, they both immediately go onto the "unsafe" pile and will no longer be subject for testing.

If a vector clears one vector, we test it against the others in the set.

So if we have 3 vectors, A, B and C we test A against B then A against C. For efficiency, we then then just test B against C.

Like I said, I want a "safe" and "unsafe" pile. Every vector in "safe" is fully unique while every vector in "unsafe" is not unique.

I thought about just using a for-loop to loop through leaves and then iterate through each element but I'm not sure if that'll work just right out of the box.

C# :: Store Multiple Values?

May 1, 2015

I am working on a text based RPG. As with most RPGs the character has attributes that grant modifiers. Lets take strength for instance. Suppose the character can have a strength score that ranges from 1 to 10. Based on strength the modifiers could be like the following:

Strength = 1 grants +1 to hit and +1 damage
Strength = 2 grants +1 to hit and +2 damage
Strength = 3 grants +2 to hit and +3 damage

I want to set these values at design time and be able to retrieve the modifiers based on the strength value from multiple places in my program.

What is the best method of designing this. I looked around online and saw references to Lists with Tuples and Dictionaries with Tuples but these did not seem to be a very efficient way of handling the scenario above.

C# :: How To Store Multiple Function Calls In Array

Oct 9, 2014

My function "MatrixMul" returns an int array with multiple values Let's say, res[0] and res[1]

When I'm calling the array in a for loop for multiple times, and when I'm storing the results in another array, in each iteration the results are over-written with the new results.

If the first call returns [0,1] the array will store [0,1] at index [0] and [1], which is fine, but when I'm calling the function again, the new results are stored at the same indexes [0] and [1] How can I avoid that?

The code is:

class Hill_Cipher
{
string AtoZ="ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ";
public string Hill_Cipher_Enc(string input, int[,] key)

[Code].....

For example, my outPut contains the following: "TH","IS","AT" when I'm calling the function with the first element of array "TH", it converts "T" to its equivalent number and apply some calculations and same with "H". Let's say the final answer is 20 for "T" and 30 for "H". The problem is that every time, encChars will store the values at index 0 and 1: encChars[0]=20 encChars[1]=30 When I call the function again it will store the new values at 0 and 1.... That's because I'm not changing the index value for encChars on each call, so how do I do that?

C++ :: Cloning Object - Store Pointers Instead Of References?

Apr 8, 2013

Is there a point in dynamically creating a pointer during runtime only to dereference it? (if that is the right term, as in *pointer, depoint it?)

In this case should I perhaps store pointers instead of references?

Inventory.cpp

Code:
bool Inventory::addItem(InventoryItem& item) {
addItemAmount(item);
if (item.getAmount() > 0) {
if (hasEmptySlot()) {
addNewItem(*item.clone());
return true;

[Code] ....

Also I was wondering, is there some sort of built-in cloning functionality or do I have to write the clone functions myself? When creating new instances I see that I can either pass the constructor properties or a reference to an object of the same type.

For instance:

Code:
new InventoryItem(index, name....);
new InventoryItem(const InventoryItem&);

Is the second one casting?

C :: Read From And Store Values Of Each Line In Multiple Variables

May 6, 2013

So I have this text file that I am trying to read from and store the values of each line in multiple variables. Let's say my text file contains

AXSYZ3482 Tom 100 112 and my code below here works fine when the lines in the text file is separated by spaces.

Code:

while (fscanf(fp, "%s %s %d %d
", userID, name, &startLoc, &endLoc) != EOF) {
printf("%s %s %d %d
", userID, name, startLoc, endLoc);
}

But let's say my file was to look like this instead.

AXSYZ3482:Tom:100:112

But if i try this below...

Code:

while (fscanf(fp, "%s:%s:%d:%d
", userID, name, &startLoc, &endLoc) != EOF) {
printf("%s %s %d %d
", userID, name, startLoc, endLoc);
}

It seem to store the entire line in userID including the ":". I want to ignore the ":"'s and store everything in between in respective varibles in the order specified above.

So first string in userID, then ignore the :, then second string in name, and ignore the next :, and so forth.
