C++ :: How To Generate Real Random Number From Normal Distribution
Jun 26, 2013
I want to generate random numbers of normal distribution and use scentence like
std::default_random_engine generator;
std::normal_distribution<double> distribution(0,1);
arrayX[i][j]=distribution(generator);
But I find that each time the array I got are the same. So how should I generate random numbers with different seedings with normal distribution?

I am generating random number of normal distribution (0,1) but i suspect maybe I have done it wrong. The generator I use right now is
srand(time(0));
std::random_device rd;
std::mt19937 gen(rd());
std::default_random_engine generator;
std::normal_distribution<double> distribution(0,1);
Am I doing the right thing? Whether this is a real random number generator?

I wrote the following program shown below that produces a normally distributed random number several times, and then takes the average of them. The problem that I have been having though is that the output it has been producing is 0.0288385 despite the fact that I set the mean of the normal distribution to be 0.1. Why this output value would be so far off from 0.1 despite having averaged over such a large number of random numbers namely 10,000 of them? Also, how to randomly seed this random number generator such that it gives a different value each time its run perhaps by seeding it with the windows timer? Below is the program.
#include <iostream>
#include <random>
using namespace std;
int main() {
default_random_engine generator;
normal_distribution<double> distribution1(0.1,3.0);
double number1,sum,n;
[code].....

How can I generate a pseudo-random real number from interval [0,1] ?
Can it be generalized to any interval? Like [0,a], where 'a' is a parameter?
I tried searching for it, I only found rand(), srand(), random(1), and randomize. None of it actually seems to work for me..
Later I actually succeeded with something like
srand( (unsigned)time( NULL ) );
printf( " %6d
", rand() );
but it only produces up to five digits integers and I cannot divide by 99999 to get it into [0,1].

Write a function that generates 1000 normally distributed (Gaussian Probability Distribution) random numbers. Range should be between -3 and +3. Numbers should be double floating point.
There's more to it than that, but I've got it from there.

I am a very very beginner at programming with C. Well, basically i have to generate a real number between 0 and 1 (which as the same as from 0 to 100 k and than dividing everything with 100 k).
Why I am constantly talking about 100 k? Because I would need approx 50 000 random numbers between 0 and 1. My code currently looks something like this:
Code:
int main(int argc, char** argv) { int min,max;
double number;
srand((unsigned)time(NULL));
number = 1 + rand()%100;
printf("The number is: %lf",number);
sleep(2);
return (EXIT_SUCCESS);
}
And If I am not mistaken, should generate numbers between 0 and 100. But I can't figure it out how to change to code in order to get enough numbers.

I'm implementing an normal_distribution to select objects on a vector. The thing is I can't use values greater then 1 or less then -1. Here is what could be done:
gausx=gaus_distributionx(generator);
while((gausx>1) || (gausx<-1))
gausx=gaus_distributionx(generator);
The question is if the distribution would loose it's power to be a normal distribution, because some of the gerated numbers wouldn't be used. Any way to set ranges for the distribution?

I need creating a unique form of binary tree. I will eventually drop 256 balls into this to see the distribution, but its creating a pascals triangle recursively.
To create it I need to use two classes, a tree and a node class, and friend them create it recursively.

I'm trying to write a program that generates a random number between 50 and 200. I made a program that generates random numbers, but how to make those random numbers be in-between 50 and 200. Any example of a program that generates random numbers that are confined in-between certain values?

My program asks me to write a C++ program that generates a random number between 1-100, and lets the user guess the number until he/she guesses correctly.
I have every thing done but my loop will not end. I know I have to "update" the loop to end it but I don't know what that means.
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <ctime>
using namespace std;
int main() {
srand(time(NULL)); //the function that generates random numbers

I have to write a C++ program that picks a random number between 0 and 49. If the number is even lets say 30, then the computer will display 30, 32, 34, 36... all the way till 100, if its odd lets say 17, then the computer will display 17, 19.. till 99. I got the computer picking a random number, I just can't figure out how to display every other number using a for loop statement. Here's my code for random number generator:
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
using namespace std;
int main()
[Code] ....

I've been currently stuck on a C++ problem. Here's the question:
Write a program that generates one hundred random integers between 0 and 9 and displays the count for each number. (Hint: Use rand()
% 10 to generate a random integer between 0 and 9. Use an array of ten integers, say counts, to store the counts for the number of O's, l 's, . .. , 9's.)
I think I'm pretty close, but I keep on getting "0" for the occurrences (or counts) of each random integer.
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
#include <conio.h>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
const int SIZE = 100;

I'm looking to code a completely random distribution of numbers that doesn't affect performance using rand. I believe this code would be ideal but I don't understand how to use it. Where would I input the range of numbers and the quantity?
double uniform_deviate ( int seed ){
return seed * ( 1.0 / ( RAND_MAX + 1.0 ) );
} int r = M + uniform_deviate ( rand() ) * ( N - M );
And for the seed...
unsigned time_seed(){
time_t now = time ( 0 );
unsigned char *p = (unsigned char *)&now;
unsigned seed = 0;
size_t i;
for ( i = 0; i < sizeof now; i++ )
seed = seed * ( UCHAR_MAX + 2U ) + p[i];
return seed;
} srand ( time_seed() );

I was told to use a round function to round a number to give an integer number that is closer to the real value. (for example if the number is 114.67 I need to print an int value of 115 instead of 114)
I am not exactly sure how a round function works, but I am told to include math.h library. What I try doesn't seem to work.

I cannot get passed the errors.

So how do you get numeric input from a user?

I need codes for a program in C or C++ that will show the real factor (the smallest one, without the number 1) when an integer is given as input.
When the program is started, it will ask to enter a number and press enter. After entering a number, it will first check if it is a prime number or not. If prime, it will notice that it is a prime number, otherwise, it will print the smallest real factor of the given integer.
For example, if 12 is entered, it will print, the smallest real factor for this number is: 2
If 27 is entered, it will print, the smallest real factor for this number is: 3
...and so on

I'm trying to generate random numbers so that I can assign people to teams. So far I have come up with this
Code:
int generateTeam(){
int i, teamNumber, c, n;
for (c = 0; c <= 5; c++) {
n = rand()%100 + 1;
}
[code]....
}//end generateTeam I'm not sure how to make it so that I can exclude the previous random number when generating the next one. As an example, I have 22 students and I get the number 19. Now I can't have 19 again because that guy already has it.

The program is to generate random numbers to a file and will have one integer parameter, Open a file and then using a loop write the required number of random numbers to the file. Scale the random numbers from 1 and 100 inclusive. Then closes the file .The last function will read the numbers in the file into your program. so far i have
Code: #include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <iomanip>
#include <ctime>
#include <fstream>
#include <cstdlib>
[Code] .....
