I am reading in a file where each line contains two octal numbers separated by a comma (and perhaps a whitespace). I would like to read these lines into a two dimensional array. So for example
E19, 2A4
9423, F15
would be Code: {{E19, 2A4},{9423, F15}}
Is there a way to check how many lines are in the file so I could initialize my array to the proper length? How would I obtain an octal number with more than one character? So get would grab a single character, but how would I grab however many characters prior to the comma as a single value?
I'm having some problems with Input to an array from a file. I think that i need to make a new array for every instance of the loop but i can't figure out how.
I'm struggling loading a class (and it's two derived classes) from an input file. I'm trying to create an array of class objects (and derived objects) and then load them based upon what is in the file.

Basically if the getline get's a P it's supposed to create a new object using the PrintedBook derived class and then store it to an array, if the getline get's to the "A" it's supposed to create an AudioBook object.
What I'm struggling with is writing something to parse the file line by line and create the objects on the fly and then store them into the array.
I need to read input from a file , which contains multiple sentences of varying lengths. After each new line char, i need to store that sentence into an array.
I am trying to generate possible combinations of 4 lower case letters from aaaa - zzzz. The words will then be used against a file that contains encrypted passwords that each relate to a 4 lower case word. I have successfully generated the words. Now all i need to do is put the created words (aaaa, aaab, etc...) to an array so I can use crypt((array[i+1]), buff) and print the encrypted 4 letters that come from the file. I am having a lot of trouble complete this though.
New problems that are occurring
The main problem is in the all function and main. I'm not wanting to print the aaaa, aaab, aaac, etc to the screen but I want to put it in an char array so that i can compare each individually to each line from the file using crypt. How to put all 456976 combinations into an array, compare it to each line of code, and print the solutions to the screen.

I think is just a matter of figuring out how to tell fscanf to ommit spaces and commas, but I don't know how. This is what I have done
I'm trying to pass these numbers into the array using the for loop: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I created two files in my project called "inStuff.txt" and "OUTPUTS.txt". I know I have an error at my input in the for loop, which is a bit similar to my problem or something? I'm also on linux using a crossGCC complier(not sure if that makes a difference).

I'm having issues trying to input data from a .txt file into my array program. The whole program takes the name, # of goals and assists, adds them together to get points, and then puts in a given + or - rating. The program works except for the data input.
Also, this is an alphabetical "Unsorted" list, but is there a way to order the list based on point value and be able to display that as well as a separate "Ordered" list?
And this is the .txt file. Order is Players Name, Goals, Assists, Plus/Minus rating. The points are added when points = goals + assists (Should be in the main coding above).

I'm trying to read the data from a file i/o and put them into an array of structs. But when I run the program, it gives me a bunch of "garbage" as an output. my code and see
I have written a C++ program I have multiple of CSV file used as input, which I open one at a time and close it after extracting data to a output file which is the only file.
I run getline(inFile,line); outFile << line << endl;
I run this code, and only part of it is goes to the output file I got, also have spacing randomly to specific file and inconsistent
But when I slower the code, like system("Pause") in the loop, I can get extract what I want perfectly....
Is my program running to fast, why getline would be skipping part of what things I want?

In addition, on screen it needs to display the average scores for each Q1, Q2, etc. as well as the minimum and maximum for each test on the screen. I am having a hard time in assigning the scores to a variable so that they can then be computed as an average and then used to determine a letter grade. I have begun to write the code and am a bit stuck..here's what I have so far:

how do i decompress an input file and write the results into an output file?
also my do while loop is supposed to keep going unless the user selects the option to exit the program, instead it exits after finishing ay of the options.
I have a program where I will read in a certain .txt file, such as "financial_data.txt" and I will be doing some sorting with this data.
I want my program to write out the sorted data to an output file and I want the name of the output file to be based off of the input name. For example, since my input file is "financial_data.txt", I want the output file name to be "financial_data_out.txt".

My parameters are that the users input has to be from 1 to 9 and the same number can't be entered twice. How do i modify this code to make sure that the user did those things or an error message should appear that their input is invalid.

I was very much confused with managing the 3d arrays. Other than initialising it is tough for me to input the data into the 3d array at runtime. I have tried the every possible method i know untill now but i can't successfully input and output the data.
I have written a code by declaring the 3d array of char s[5][2][20] in main and passing it's base address into another function, lets say input(char (*p)[2][20],int ,int ,int). I have passed the 3 dimensions in declaration 5,2,20 to the input function i have used these 3 values as the subscript for the pointer p and tried to input the data. But i wasn't successful.
How to input the strings into the 3d array.
My preferences were:
1.The change of subscript value should take place in loop(eg:for). 2.Which indexes should be used for inputing the data through pointer. 3.Use either "scanf" or "gets" function to inputs the data and print using "printf" or puts.
Following is the program I wrote it basically takes 9 inputs and then save them into binary file. then print out the data stored in binary data and find inverse of it then print the inverse out. but its stuck in a loop somewhere.
