C :: Take Personality Information From User And Store It In Text File

May 17, 2014

I was trying to make a program in C that could take Personality Information from the user and store it in a text file. Then, when asked, could compare the results to other entries in the so called "data-base" and tell which is the best match. I tried a whole lot but couldn't think of a proper way.

(Stings and File IO are not my strong points)

I am using Code Blocks 10.05 and the standard GCC compiler.

C++ :: Read From A File And Store Information In Separate Variables?

Dec 8, 2014

So I have to read from a file, and store the information in separate variables. My problem is that for some of the information I need multiple words, and for others I don't, so I cant simply store 1 word into a variable and store the next in another in so on. To demonstrate what I mean let me give an example.

Dog Cat Blue Bird Snake White Horse

I am able to store "Dog","Cat","Blue","Bird"...etc in variables but I don't know how to make it so I can store "Dog" in one variable, "Cat" in a second variable. and "Blue Bird" in a third variable. "Snake" would be the 4th and "White Horse" would be the fifth. How can I read a file and manipulate the pointer to grab what I need?

C++ :: Outputting Data From File Into Structs And Arrays Of Structs

Apr 15, 2013

I am having a lot of trouble being able to get data from a file and input it into given structs and arrays of structs and then outputting the file. We are given a file that contains 96 lines and looks like this:

Arzin, Neil
2.3 6.0 5.0 6.7 7.8 5.6 8.9 7.6
Babbage, Charles
2.3 5.6 6.5 7.6 8.7 7.8 5.4 4.5

This file continues for 24 different people and then repeats with different scores (the second line).
The first number, in this case is 2.3 for both people is a difficulty rating. The next 6 numbers are scores.

We are given this data in order to set up our structs and arrays and my code:

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <string>
#include <cmath>
using namespace std;
int main () {
ifstream inFile;
inFile.open("C://diveData.txt);

C/C++ :: Scanning CSV File Into Array Of Structs

Mar 18, 2015

I need to scan a .csv file that contains the following info:

programming,03,60,141,01,W,2015
programming,03,60,141,30,W,2015
Algebra,03,62,102,02,S,2013
Religion,08,98,938,20,F,2014

So i made a struct:

typedef struct CourseInfo {
int courseID;
char courseName[50];
char courseCode[13];
char term[7];
} courseinfo;

Where course code is the 4 numbers after the name together and the term is the letter and year in the last two pieces of info. I got this to work:

int main() {
FILE *p;
p = fopen("input.csv", "r+");
if(p == NULL) {
puts("The file could not be opened");

[Code] ......

But lets say i dont know how many lines i have in my file and i want to count them and then use that size for my array so i tried this by:

int main() {
FILE *p;
int lines = 1;
char ch;
p = fopen("input.csv", "r+");
if(p == NULL) {

[Code] .....

But the second program is not working for unknown reasons. I do not get any errors but its not scanning the info because when i print the info later on it prints out random symbols.

C++ :: Incorporate Array Of Structures To Read User Input Then Reprint That Information To Screen

Nov 18, 2014

I have to create a program that incorporates an array of structures in order to simply read input from the user and then reprint that information to the screen. This is a fairly simple problem, but the issue is that the professor requires that we solve it in a very specific way.

I must have three functions in total: one to receive input from the user, one to print the received values, and of course the main function which calls the other two. Also, the input and output functions must be defined using the following prototypes:

void inputData(Component C1);
void printData(Component *C1);

Where Component is a structure defined above as:

typedef struct// Component {
float cost;
int code;
char name[30];

[Code] ....

I know that this problem could be easily solved by simply passing the entire 'comp' array to the inputData function, or passing a pointer to it, or having it return a pointer, but I am not allowed to do any of these things. I must use the function as defined by the prototype.

C :: Array Of Structs (adding / Deleting Elements To A File)

Sep 20, 2013

I want to write a program to record my neighborhoods's name and address by using an array of structs and file.

my array of structs is

Code:
#define SIZE 30
typedef struct{
char name[30];
char address[100];
}Detail;
Detail neighbor[SIZE];

And I want to make adding,deleting, and searching functions.Something like

Code:

void add();//Add name and address to a file,
//and add more to the same file if I want to.
void del();//Delete or Change some neighbor's name or address
//in the same file(Can I?)
void search();//Search name and show detail

So I started to code adding function first, but I don't know that I need to use pointer to code each functions relations, and I don't know how to check that my input's already exists yet. But I started some code below...

Code:
void add() {
int i=0;
FILE *fp = fopen("neighborhood.txt", "at");
if ( fp != NULL ) {
do{

C++ :: Using Arrays To Store Information?

Nov 5, 2014

I am trying to use an array to keep track of the numbers of channels created and how many times a particular channel has been copied. At the moment, the program sets a number for a new channel (1-20), but the user enters the channel name. The channel name is stored in 'ChannelName' variable and if the user copies the channel, it becomes ChannelName_Copy. I want to change the '_Copy' into an incremental identifier such as _C1, _C2, etc.. and to do this i would need to keep track of the channel name and the number of times it has been copied, which i planned to do using arrays but i am not quite sure how to approach this.

Note: If user answers Y he is asked to enter a value that is entered into an array. If the user at any point answers N, the program ends and final stats are cout.

C++ :: Input File And Store In String

Nov 22, 2013

I'd like to input a file and store the contents of the file in a string.

Here is my code:
std::string inputFile();
int main() {
std::string fileContents = inputFile();
} std::string inputFile()

[Code] ....

It works fine if the file name and path is input correctly.

But, if the file name or path is entered incorrectly, the recursive call to inputFile is executed, and the user is given another opportunity to enter the file. Then, if the file name is entered correctly an error is thrown in Visual Studio 2013:

"Unhandled exception at 0x77F7A9E8 (msvcr120d.dll) in Assignment4.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xCCCCCCC0."

How could this be done better?

Write a C++ application that asks the user to enter 10 numbers. The program then stores those numbers in an Array. The program should display the Mean , Median, and Mode.

Mean is the average of the 10 numbers.
Median is the average of the 5th and the 6th numbers. (But you have to arrange the numbers in ascending order first using Bubble Sort before calculating the Median.)
Mode is the most frequent number among the 10 numbers.
