I have a problem like this: I do not know how to count the number of elements in a list of lists. I have the following list of list.

std::vector<std::vector<GLdouble> > contours;

I do not know how to write the part indicated in Bold that represents the number of elements of contour. As seen from the code used for the tesselation OpenGL.

I'm trying to write a function that takes two linked lists and creates a third one with only the common elements.

It assumes the first list (the caller) has no dups, but it doesn't seem to be working. The program doesn't crash, it just hangs when it is supposed to display L3 (the third list)..everything else runs and is displayed fine.

I am reading a book currently on data structures in c++. The questions I have is how I would be able to swap two adjacent elements by adjusting only the links (not the data) using, a) singly linked lists, doubly linked lists.

For the single linked list which I am somewhat familiar with (by the content of the book), I would consider taking the Node A, and copying its data into a new Node temp, then re-routing the pointer from whatever connected to Node A, now to Node temp. now I want to re-route the pointer of Node B to Node temp and Node temp to whatever Node was being connected from Node B. Is this the correct approach?

This is going to seem like a stupid question but how can I count the elements of a const array. Surely c++ compilers provide a count for const arrays?

I want to count the elements so if the server sends a bad item id it won't crash every client in range lol. I heard that the sizeof keyword returns the size of the array in bytes. I used to think the size of keyword would return the element count but found out it isn't.

Placing it in a loop gets me the elements common in the last comparison , but never gets me elements commong in all lists.

I have read that the Erase-remove idiom is the way to go. I have a rough understanding of how this works but am unsure whether I can implement a match-counter along with it.

For counting alone, I would use something like this:

I'm not sure how (or if) I can combine the two things. That is, I don't know how to integrate a function comparing two (changing) strings into the remove_if() method. Nor do I know how to increment a counter during iteration.

The vector is extremely large, so speed is paramount. I think there are many other avenues for optimization, but decreasing the vector's size for each consecutive search could deliver a big speed boost for subsequent searches I imagine, as traversing it holds the biggest cost.

I would like to have a List with Lists. (every list with have strings ints and i would like to be able to have all the lists in a array) is this approach too expensive and i will have problem with the memory or something? is it better if i have a list with the names of the lists and access them that way?

I've been given a ton of code (5 files worth) that does various things with a linked list. I'm supposed to add a function to split this list into two separate lists by testing whether or not each number is <,=, or > a certain element. I am completely lost and don't understand linked lists at all. I'm also a bit lost on pointers since it's been almost a year since I've looked at programming, but I could probably figure that out if I could just get this linked list thing down.

Here's my SplitLists function so far:

I need to make singly and doubly linked list classes that can insert elements. Once the lists are created, I need to order the linked list elements according to a certain pattern.
