C :: Write A Code To Calculate Minimum Number
May 24, 2014
I'm trying to write a code to calculate the minimum number of coins needed to cover a change. It works fine but i want to display a message telling the user to try again if they type something that's not a number or a negative number. But it's not working. When i type a negative number, the program runs normally and displays a negative value of coins instead of showing the message. And when i type something that's not a number, the program just keeps showing a lot of zeros nonstop. And when i try to compile it with 'unsigned float' instead of just 'float' i get errors.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
unsigned int coins;
float change;
unsigned int n25, n10, n5, n1;
unsigned int r25, r10, r5;
}
[code]....

I assume floating point numbers in C++ have a default maximum of 5 decimal places. You can use setprecision() but is this limitless?
So how would find say write a program to calculate Pi to N number of places?

I am trying to write code to find all the prime numbers before a user entered number. I started with a working program and when I tried to create a function, it got all messed up.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int is_prime( int num );
int get_positive_integer(void);
int main( ) {
int upper; /* upper limit to check */
int num; /* current number to check */
int isprime;
/* used to flag if number is prime or not */
[Code]...
It says the error is on line 23

You are given an integer, perhaps a very long long integer, composed of only the digits 1 and/or 2. You have the ability to change a 1 digit into a 2 and a 2 digit into a 1 and must determine the min. number of changes that you can make resulting in no 2 digits remaining in the number that are in a position(in terms of powers of ten) higher than any 1 digit.
example:
2222212 number of changes:1
1111121 1
2211221 3
1122112 2
no negative numbers.
how to get started. Also I'm not allowed to use anything related to arrays or sorting.

So I have a template, part of a larger code, that is designed to calculate the number of multiplications it took to reach a certain number. The problem is, whenever I execute the program, mults is always printing out a strange number, perhaps its actual address.
template <class T>
T power3(T x, unsigned int n, unsigned int& mults) {
if (n == 0) return 1;
if (n == 1) return x;
if (n == 2){

is it possible to write a code that can crack the sha256 hash when you know the form of password? for example the password form is *-********** which is 12-13 characters long and the first char is one number from 1 to 25, second one is hyphen and in each char from the third one to the end, you can put a...z, A...Z and 0...9 and after guessing each pass, the code convert the pass to sha256 and see whether the result hash is equal to our hash or not and then print the correct pass. I know all possible numbers is a big number ((26+26+10)^10) but I want to know that: 1- Is it possible to write such code? 2-if yes, is it possible to run whole code in less than one day(because I think it takes a lot of time to complete the whole code)? 3-Since I can't ask you to write a code for me, how and where can I ask for this code? 4-if no, is it possible to write such code in other programming languages?

How to incorporate exception handling code into my existing calcMortgage code. While I was researching exception handling, I thought "what would happen with my current code if someone input the principal with a comma in it?". Typically people write two hundred thousand like so.... 200,000. While experimenting with my original code, I remembered reading in my research that someone had done their calcMortgage with the output prompt "DO NOT USE COMMAS". So, when checking to see if my code would run, I did not use commas.
Well, guess what...using a comma in the principal causes an error with a negative numerical output. lol PERFECT!!!! Obviously, the easy thing to do would be to put output instructions in the code telling the user NOT to use commas, but the assignment requires me to use exception handling. The code itself works, but the calculation produces a negative monthly payment.
How would I insert exception handling code into my current code to correct this problem??
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <cmath>
using namespace std;
struct calcMortgage {
double Principal, numYears, IntRate, monthlyPayments;};
int main(){
[Code]...
would I use a try or a throw??

im trying to write a source code that find the smallest, largest and average of numbers in array. the code runs fine, but it is not giving the highest number and the the average should include only four number excluding highest and smallest number from the array.

double average, sum = 0;
int temp;
for(int i = 0; i < 6; i++){

One of my class assignments is to create a program that receive a .txt file containing a students name and their grades as follows:
John K. 99, 87, 57, 89, 90, 95
Amanda B. Jones 100, 88, 76, 99, 86, 92
etc..
The number of students is unknown until run time. You have to take those grades and average them weighing the first (4) at 10% a piece and the last (2) at 30% each.
Then return an output file with the students name and their letter grade A,B,C,D,F based on their computed score. In addition, on screen it needs to display the average scores for each Q1, Q2, etc. as well as the minimum and maximum for each test on the screen. I am having a hard time in assigning the scores to a variable so that they can then be computed as an average and then used to determine a letter grade. I have begun to write the code and am a bit stuck..here's what I have so far:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <math.h>
[Code]....

I have a program that allows the user to enter a specific number of test scores. Based on these test scores, the program should display the average score and calculate how many of the scores were above 90. I have most of it done but I'm having trouble figuring out how to calculate the number of scores that were above 90. What am I doing wrong?
This is my code:
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>

int howManyA(double*, int);

So I have to write a program to calculate a grade letter into a number.
Letter grades are A, B, C, D, and F, possibly followed by + or â. Their numeric values are 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0. There is no F+ or Fâ. A + increases the numeric value by 0.3, a â decreases it by 0.3. If the letter grade is illegal (such as "Z"), then your output should be "INVALID LETTER GRADE"; If the combination is illegal (such as "A+" or "F-") then your output should be "INVALID GRADE COMBINATION"
Also the code should look like this
Enter your letter grade: C+
Grade value is [2.3]
// Input
cout << "Enter your letter grade: ";
string s;
cin >> s;
[Code].....

Write a C++ program to calculate the fewest number of each denomination needed to pay a bill of amount TOTAL. For example, if the end user enters $97 for TOTAL, program will output that the bills would consist of one $50 bill, two $20 bills, one $5 bill, and two $1 bills. (Assume that the amount is in whole dollars, no cents, and only $100, $50, $20, $10, $5, and $1 denominations are available.) Aid: You may want to use the modulus operator %.

#include <string>
#include <conio.h>
